Help OTA update for rooted samsung galaxy S III

hello

I have a rooted Samsung galaxy S3 (SCH-R530) I am unable to find the OTA update for this device (rooted). So I was wondering is it okay to accept the regular OTA even though I'm rooted?I want to know if that would mess up the root?

Anyways, you have the U.S. Cellular variant?

Don't accept the OTA, it may or may not install, and if it does, it will probably unroot you.
 
so if you follow this rule of thumb (even though it might not be necessary on some phones), you will never had any issues on rooted phones:

never accept OTA's while you are either rooted or planning to root your phone.

do this and you will never have any issues.

if you are rooted, then all you need to do is wait for the devs to get their hands on the OTA and then they can cook a rooted version of it that you can just flash.

if you plan on rooting the phone then taking the ota might make it harder to root later on.

ha-ha yup that's me!! Still have the Evo but its just collecting dust these days. yes it is from US Cellular. would un-root and except the OTA be any idea? cuz i cant even find any ROMs either.

yes that helps just reinforcing what i have read before. I am asking bec i have been looking for the update for at least 4 months now and cant find anything. I was told that its a pretty good update to have.
 
yeah you picked a phone that does not have much of a dev support so i'm not sure what you can do. for me i will always check to see what the dev community is before i buy a phone.

not sure how taking an OTA on your phone will affect your root. hopefully others here might be able to answer better then i can.
 
I have to be an echo here and agree the easiest thing here is to find a rom with the most recent OTA

However if your persistent on taking the official, you'll need to flash the stock recovery to take it. <--kills your root btw

Sometimes it works, sometimes it wont. Bad thing about it is, you need the stock recovery to accept an OTA update. So you can install the app you suggested, install the stock recovery, accept the OTA, reflash your custom recovery in odin


Or just flash the updated ROM

Not worth the effort in my opinion ;)

ok, yea I agree it's easier to just flash a new/updated ROM. however, I was also able to use OTA snatcher, which I understand how it works even les but it somehow saves the OTA .zip to your sd so you can just flash it like any other ROM. I dunno, it worked for me...
