OTA update is live (for real this time)

I get an error message whenever I try to use Software Update. It says:

Error

SERVICE UNAVAILABLE
Check for Software Update under
Settings when service is available

I am not rooted.

My wifi is not on and I'm still getting that message, but I suspect it's a rolling update. Anyone is SoCal get the update yet?

San Diego, Not yet. Still getting Error message from above

Same for me. Currently in San Francisco and on 4G. I'll try again later.

Checked and it was there for me in Boston. Just started the update, while my fingers are crossed it goes well and fixes some of the issues I am having (which are a lot), I'm not all that hopeful.

I am running stock (not rooted)

was having a few issues today with 1X or no service. Got the software update to come through after about 5 or 6 times (it was canceling half way through).

4G running but network seems slow as anything still.

Download and installation were flawless and quick. However, the only improvement that I was really hoping for was faster GPS lock. Side by side with my wife's Incredible, the TBolt is still trying to lock, while the Incredible locked on almost instantly. That makes me think it's a pure hardware/design issue, which would be really unfortunate.

And it is done updating (been done for nearly 10 minutes now actually).

Since I'm at work, won't really have a chance to see if anything is any better. Although, I tried to get a lock on GPS even though I'm indoors and it got me within a few blocks from where I am, impressive since usually it doesn't even get the country right.

Same here...

I hate Verizon....same crap here with the error, and to check when service is available. Why the hell wouldn't they make us aware an update is available?

Orange County CA...

I have been getting this error, for weeks! I started checking for the new update about 1 week before it was "announced", then I was checking all day until they said "nevermind"... Now I am checking again...
EVERY time, I got "Service Unavailable"! I was told to get LTE On\Off and try it on 3G, and that worked once. It no longer fixes my problem.

Service Unavailable is nothing more than a "server is busy" message. Nothing to worry about.

Soo... it has been nothing but busy, since a few days before Verizon "announced" the update?

I NEVER saw this message on my Droid X - even the day of an OTA

Rebooted my phone and it picked up the update. Installing now in Atlanta.

Prior to Reboot #1: 4G - "Service Unavailable" ... 3G - "Service Unavailable"

Reboot #1: 4G - "Service Unavailable" ... 3G - "Service Unavailable"

Reboot #2: 4G - "Service Unavailable" ... 3G - "Service Unavailable"

Guess it's time to call Verizon...

I took me several attempts on 4G before I finally got connected. I bet the servers are overloaded.

This explanation makes no sense to me...
Like I said, I have been checking for software updates regularly - since about 3 days before Verizon announced the OTA (and then later, said "jk").
There is absolutely NO WAY that the servers were "overloaded" then, and still are! Nearly every day between then and now, I have checked for updates, and I get the same error\message.

Either this is a false explanation - or Verizon seriously needs to put some money towards upgrading their servers.

Just installed in NYC without problems. Most of the fixes are pretty worthless to me. I have no use for 3g, use google voice so I haven't opened my messages app for weeks, don't need GPS for anything since maps are enough, don't use my location for weather widget (pretty sure this drains more battery). Will report back if it somehow magically improves battery life even though it wasn't part of the release.

Did the check software thing upon seeing this thread and it was there! (Central Pennsylvania). Interestingly, seems none of us got the notification on this...and Verizon's web page now says update available as of 5/13/11.

Otherwise, I now have lost weather data on the htc home screen widget...gps won't lock at all...and camcorder sound seems only marginally improved. I will experiment more at work here when I have some time (battery pull, etc.), but so far seems like improvements are uncertain (?).

I feel like my charge was A LOT faster...but I don't know it was only one charge and I didn't exactly time it but was surprised that the green light came on so quick...time will tell
