OTA update officially released 8/24/11...(MR-5 Update) Discussion thread

If those that had the silent call bug report on on whether this seemed to fix it would be great. I am considering getting the Photon, but it was out of the running due to the large number of people experiencing that bug. If it is fixed the photon is back in the running. Thanks!

Will do! I'm sure that everyone will be testing over the next couple days to make sure that our silent call issue has been silenced itself. ;)

Ditto! I can't believe it!

I can. I trust Motorola just as much as I did HTC. When there were "rumors" about an update being pushed, there usually would be fairly soon after the rumors start. The one thing I don't ever do is hang my hopes on "dates" that are thrown out there as the "definitive" dates, especially when there's no formal announcement from the provider or manufacturer. Keeps me sane and keeps me from blaming others for sharing information that they've willingly leaked without any real benefit for them doing so.

I'll try. Thing is, my silent call issue was so random. Sometimes It'd happen, other times it'd be fine. Only real way to report updates would be over a day or so. Or for those that are consistently making calls throughout the day.

Thanks, ill be checking in periodically for an update. I really hope it improves because the photon has so much going for it, but I gotta have a phone that reliably makes calls.

I made this comment in another thread, but the mopho community in these forums seems so much nicer and more helpfull than the threads for the other phones im looking at. Makes me want a mopho just to join you guys.

New release pushed to my phone 1am 8/24/11. Downloaded and installed in about 10 minutes. Seems to work just fine, all apps still there, and paired with the motorola bluetooth keyboard without any extra steps, just turned both on. Did not have any of the mute or resetting problems before the update. Have not made any calls yet, but do not expect any problems.

Here is the old and new versions:
On Phone as of 8/20/11:
System Version 45.2.1.MB855.Sprint.en.US
Baseband Version n_01.28.03R
Build 4.5.1A-1_SUN-154_MR1

New OTA release -8/24/11:
System Version 45.2.5.MB855.Sprint.en.US
Baseband Version n_01.28.05s.fk
Build 4.5.1A-1_SUN-154_5
Prl Version 51081

Note that this IS the same version information as the leaked release on XDA.

Now lets hope this call issue is fixed. I'm guessing "Improvements to voice calling to eliminate inadvertent voice calls defaulting to mute." would mean they fixed it?

Called into Sprint tech support for slow data connection issues. Tech support guy said that numerous people have complained today about slow internet speed and that an update will be rolled out tonight and tomorrow for the Photon. He reset my connection to the net servers and it seemed to fix my slow data issue the net flies now :) Just wanted to give everyone a heads up that something should be out soon.

Peace....

Downloading the update now. Looks like I was a few days off :p

My phone has been doing well prior to the update. Only issue is the random slow 3g connections. The phone overall is an amazing device. For those who dont like the stock launcher/motoblur go and donload Go launcher and the addons including the transparency theme. It looks freakin sweet with vortex galaxy live wallpaper running in the background. I've been travelling a lot this week and the iToy users have been gawking at my MoPho funny that not one of them ask what it is even know they really want to know. They're too loyal to ol' Jobs balls to even consider anything else. So many god damn iphone users in the airports it makes me cringe.

Anyhow lets see how the update goes ;)

So I checked updates and it found nothing, turned wifi on and checked again and it found the update.

Just a thought for others if they haven't received the update, worked for me.

Hopefully this fixes the issue, I had to reboot my phone every few hours because of the muting calls. So I will know tomorrow for sure if this fixed my issues.

Just downloaded it!!! Now the only question is will it work and did it screw anything up... stay tuned. This may have saved the MoPho from being returned for the SGS2.

Oh crud! My phone is working nearly flawlessly. I hope the update doesn't break it.

As for the SGS2 that I've been salivating over since April, it looks like I'll be outside my 30-day return period when the SGS2 is released. Oh well, Samsung was too slow (probably thanks to Apple's lawsuits). My oldest son is still holding out, so I'll be able to compare his SGS2 with my Photon to know exactly what I'm missing.

My Touch Pro was just infuriating me more and more every day I had to live with it. I couldn't wait any longer.

Just got it this morning as well. Haven't really noticed anythng different other than now the phones bluetooth volume is linked to bluetooth headset volume.

Edit: Ok just did a speedtest and wifi speed just doubled from previous tests! Looks like they unlocked the brakes.

I concur, 3G data performace appears much snappier. Also, maybe I'm just imaging it, but it also feels like the pentile screen "pixel dance" is less pronounced.

Also downloading! I'm loving this phone, just recently upgraded from my sloooow Hero!

I had experienced the "silent" calls a few times, a reboot fixed it so hopefully this works out.
