ota update rolling out now !!!!

Ok so I didn't even know there was this new update until I saw this thread.

I am in the UK using a Desire S bought Sim free from Carphone Warehouse, but I'm on T-Mobile contract.

But I still haven't recieved any update yet and when I check it says my device is up to date, my android version is 2.3.3 and HTC sense is 2.1.

Anyone know why I haven't recieved the update yet, I saw a post on the 1st page that someone from the UK has the update, but not me and I find that odd.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Some have some have not, i`ve not recieved it yet, just a case of waiting, by what i`ve heard unbranded stock will recieve first but mine is unbranded of i know some locked to Vodafone have recieved so its anyones guess. Maybe contact HTC or T Mobile may be helpful

I asked Three UK on twitter about the update and received this reply:

"A bug was found in the software and we're waiting for a re-release from HTC"

When I then queried the ETA I received this:

"We're awaiting news, so no eta just yet I'm afraid."

Guess we'll be waiting a while then.

Still no sign of this update for me
Phone is branded to Orange

checked the software update and is states my phone is upto date

Looking at status i have the following

Android Version - 2.3.3
HTC Sense Version 2.1

Where, how and when will i get my update?

@pvcprinting

You'll get it, if Orange decide it's viable, as an OTA (Over The Air) update, either via your internet/wifi or mobile data, depending on your connection.

As to when, the best thing to do is to call Orange customer services for the most reliable information. Like the other carriers who haven't provided it (Sense 3.0/OS 2.3.5) as an update, they may have been unimpressed with its quality.

Would it matter what sim you have in the phone when checking for updates on wifi ? mines sim free and unbranded with a Asda Mobile Sim (Vodaphone) and no updates shown as yet says up to date ?

Android Version - 2.3.3
HTC Sense Version 2.1

If your phone is unbranded, then it should be only a matter of time as to when the HTC server gets round to updating your phone. That's if they haven't pulled it due to more bugs!

Thank you for contacting HTC regarding your HTC Device.

I understand that you are currently experiencing difficulties with updating your device.

I believe that the reason for this is because the update has not yet been released for your device.

We are very happy to hear of your interest in the latest Sense update for your device and we appreciate you taking the time to contact us.

At this time we cannot confirm if or when the software you are interested in will be released in your region or network. Any official announcement will be made on our website at www.htc.com

this is reply i got when enquired about update, dont sound promising. Orange have ignored my e mail

My wife's phone is Orange branded, as are a couple of other Desire-S I support and they're still waiting for the update.

yes me to i am on orange also i was also told by orange they were waiting for the update from htc fingers crossed we will get it soon

I've got an unbranded set bought from phones4u. I'm running an Orange SIM in it, but no updates available for me either. Very weird that some are getting it weeks ago, but others aren't, and HTC haven't said anything either.

I might have mentioned this in another thread similar to this.

People still waiting for the update (any update) can dial *#*#2432546#*#* on the keypad. You should then get a notification message (although it may only refer to app updates). Then Menu > Settings > About phone > Software update > Check and see if anything happens!

Hi All

I too am still awaiting the update...

My 'Desire S' is Sim Free and was sent to me directly from HTC as a replacement for my broken Desire. I read somewhere today that it was only SWV 1.28 that wasn't getting the update due to an incompatibility (will try and find it again and pop a link in).

Just for reference my phone details are

Android 2.3.3
Sense 2.1
Software Number 1.28.401.1

*I'm Back*

Couldn't find the link I was looking for, but I did come across this thread -

http://androidforums.com/htc-desire...t-gingerbread-2-3-5-update-straight-away.html

Would this work for those of us still waiting and how easy is it to do?

Thanks. Just did this with my phone and my gf's. Both Desire S unbranded, mine on 1.28, hers on 1.47 or whatever it was. straight after it began updating on both and now we both have sense 3. Doing the update check thing before this didn't do anything on our phones, kept saying nothing there. but now its like we've both got new phones now.

What is the size of this download as I only get 500MB per month and don't have access to WiFi in the home?

don't know. there were several updates one after the other. took a little while even on wifi. maybe a couple of 100 as i've downloaded a couple of games that needed an extra download that was about 250mb and it seemed at least that long although i was doing two at the same time. must be somewhere it tells you how big it is?

@marvin123

The latest OTA update (Sense 3.0 and Android 2.3.5, version 2.*) is about 220Mb. But I don't know if, depending on what version you're on, you'll have to install any or all of the in between OTA updates there might be, which could add significantly more MBs to your data useage. E.g. some of those who say they've been stuck on 1.28 said they needed to flash the 1.47 RUU before they were able to get a 2.* OTA. (However, if you're going to install an RUU to upgrade to 2.*, then you may as well skip straight to the 2.* version.)

Also, unless your mobile data connection is reliable and quick, you might find it best to try and connect to a wifi somewhere. If you get timed-out on a mobile data connection (e.g. the connection drops) at 95% downloaded, you may have to download the whole update again!

I have it and it's wonderful , also it leaves lot of memory free better than old but must install clean and remove all old data ...

Can anybody share experience?
