OTA update started a minute ago

Just about a minute ago, a bunch of pre-installed apps started updating on their own. A sign of 2.2.2 or 2.3 being pushed out?:confused:

No. If VM were pushing an Android update, we would all definitely know about before it started.

When the Intercept got 2.2.2, we all knew it was coming before VM started pushing out the update. A link was offered to show people what to expect.

Sorry for this post,NoNameface was correct, have deleted the aforementioned info.

I've been having uncontrollable sneezing fits for the last 2 days. Obviously a sign that the upgrade is imminent.

ROFL!

I had several apps update themselves, too: Google Search, voice search, kickback, talkback...and something else I forgot.

Alot of those apps just updated and they are likely set to auto update in your market alot do by default when there system apps.

At least the following (it's possible that I missed a couple more):

* WHERE
* SCVNGR
* SoundBack
* KickBack
* Voice Search
* Downloads
* Gmail
* Google search

Something wonky is going on. These are the last dates those where updated on the Market (I checked from Firefox on my PC):

Where: Sept 16th, 2011
SCVNGR: Aug 18th, 2011
Soundback: Can't find it on the Market, even if I log out.
Kickback: Can't find it, even if I log out.
Voice Search: June 21st, 2011
Downloads (by VM): July 14th, 2011
Gmail: Oct 1st, 2011
Google Search: Oct 11, 2010

Perhaps Google force pushed these (and possibly others by other carriers). My Market use to never auto update apps by itself until recently (I got notified of new updates, but I always had to go in and manually download), and I chalked it up to finally adding a rom on my phone. But perhaps it was just the timing... my apps are now auto updating, downloading, and installing by themselves. They never use to do that. A Market fix perhaps?

I dunno honestly. Just taking wild guesses. What are your thoughts?

The Gmail update is great!

The others have overloaded the measly memory on the V. I've had to uninstall them twice, and I've triple-checked that "automatically update" is NOT checked.

Soundback, Kickback, and also Talkback are all part of Android Accessibility applications.

They are designed for people with disabilities by providing additional feedback on screen presses.

They can be deactivated by going to Settings and scrolling down to Accessibility and removing the checkmark(s). Reboot.

The others are apparently auto-updating, apparently with no option available to prevent the updates.

They can be removed after the fact through Settings, Applications,Manage Applications.

Select app, select uninstall updates.

The apps will eventually update again--- lather, rinse, repeat.

rwinvt,

I already knew what the apps were, but some probably didn't... thanks for pointing that out. ;)

Many thanks for reiterating how to uninstall updates. I'm sure most appreciate it. :)

These updates and weird Market behavior are happening for everyone, not just VM customers... so I'm taking a wild guess that this is somehow a Market issue. The Market is the one thing that all of us (Android owners) have in common.

well, to be clearer, the point was that the three apps I noted--Soundback, Kickback, and also Talkback-- are somewhat different than the other apps that are auto-updating. These are "optional" OS apps, primarily for people with disabilities and are only installed and updated if the user chooses so --(whether intentionally or by mistake)

In the case of those three apps It's not a case of uninstalling the updates, but removing the checkmark from Accessibility. Then ( the reboot may or may not be necessary) the apps aren't installed and won't be updated anymore. ( I think!- at least so far they haven't updated again for me). All the others have updated again several times, requiring another trip to the uninstall updates routine. And another read through on the different paths to rooting the phone. I'm almost ready.
