Root OTA's and having to switch back to stock to update?

Hey all,
I want to apologize if I missed this somewhere, but I have a question that I can't seem to find an answer to.

I have cm7, love it, went from stable, to rc, and now on nightlies. And I noticed that my phone was doing some funny things so I looked up the answers and found that there has been a recent OTA update for my phone. The standard seems to be when an OTA is out that you nan, flash stock, and then reflash your mod. My question is this, Is all of that necessary? I mean other than the pri, prl, and radios that I would need and can get in zip form from sites, I don't want to take the chance of getting a non-rooted hboot, etc.

So if I go get the latest radios, wimax, pri, and prl flash that and clear the caches, will I be ok and not have to go through all the other rigamaroll? Or am I missing something else?

Thanks

Generally for a Rooted phone you must wait until a dev adds the OTA into their ROM.
Wimax, PRL, PROFILE are seperate from the ROM so getting a zip and installing through recovery will have no affect on your ROM. However you should always do a nandroid backup incase things go wrong. And You should have the old Wimax, PRL update incase yours are corrupt. Always try to download these from your home computer.

yes you can update your radios with not having to flash another rom or anything like that. i would recommend that you flash the radio combo. it is found in the rom/kernel sticky of this forum. and to add to what argedion said, make sure that you have plenty of battery when doing this and also whatever you do do not pull the battery out while it is in the process of installing your radios that is a great way to brick your phone. also please read this:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...before-you-flash-your-radios-read-thread.html. do not let the warnings scare you. i just want you to know what you are getting yourself into.

What kind of stuff is your phone doing? More of an explanation would probably allow us to figure it out without having to mess with any of that stuff.

It was randomly rebooting, I had already found out the answer and fixed it. But my question was more directed to this.

I find that every time there is a radio update, the accepted method to get the new pri, prl, etc is to flash back to the original and get the OTA. Not wanting to fool with switching and possibly getting locked out by the OTA having an hboot or the original rom combined in it, I wanted to make sure that as long as I DL'd the radios, wimax, etc I wasn't missing anything that my rom might need.

Simply put... Can I DL and install everything manually since I feel comfortable doing it that way instead of installing the original rom just so I have a GUI to help me install the updates? If not, why, what is the difference, if any, of installing the PRL's manually to using the GUI to do it?
