Just to share. I ordered at 4:20ish today when I posted here. Within less than 2 hours, I have already received a tracking number. My order is has an estimated delivery date of 2/17/10. That is only 5 days after I ordered it, but really only approx 3 business days. Very nice :)

Same ETA here, too. Otterbox seems right on the ball with customer service and satisfaction. Much better experience than a certain company I ordered a simple screen protector from.

Hello Hero guys and gals... pics below.

Not the Hero but since it is very similar I thought I might post this over here so anyone on the fence could see some more of what to expect from this case.

I got it today and really like the solidness of it. I actually feel like it could take a pretty big fall and bounce fine. The inner skin is a rubberized flex skin that wraps over the back, and sides of the Eris. The outer piece is hard plastic but thin and recesses itself in the flex piece. I can foresee them making this outer piece in multiple colors in the future. The only part that I dont like so far is the usb and headphone cover flaps. The usb flap can open with very little effort, too little for me. I can see this flap annoying me in and out of my pocket. The headphone jack conversely is somewhat difficult to open if your hands arent perfectly clean or you don't have any nails as is my case. This one I dont want to fumble around with. Both of these issues can be solved pretty easy though just by clipping off the covers at their hinges. I will prob wait a few days to do this though just to be sure.

The two features I like most about it is the camera/speaker bezel (this is very nicely made and protects the camera glass and seems to amplify the speaker a bit), and the front lip that comes up from the sides of the flex cover. This lip is nice and beveled so it doesn't catch on my hand or pants but is raised above the screen to completely protect it an even the trackball when set face down.

Ok ok... the pics :D
Here is two of many. Instead of pasting them all here and taking up too much space, here is the album. Let me know if the link doesnt work and I will fix as I haven't posted this way before.

Thanks for the those pictures and review, n2imagination. Awesome job! It looks like I won't be disappointed when I receive mine.

A couple of questions, if you don't mind.

In a couple of the pics it appears the rubbery flex skin part is, shall we say, "linty" for lack of a better word. Does it seem to attract lint like some of the rubber type skins or is what I'm seeing just the texture of the skin?

Also, it looks like you have a screen saver on there. Is this the one that came with the case and if so, how do you like it?

Thanks again for the excellent pics and write-up. Very nice.

Thanks for the pictures, Can't wait.

I ordered on the 12th, just before I posted here. Didn't know about the discount, oh well.

I just checked the tracking number, mine processed through the Tulsa sort facility this morning, ugh, tomorrows a holliday, so will get it Tuesday for sure.

@EgeBamyasi

Yes that is a screen protector. It is the Skinomi one. It is not the one that came with the case. The one that came with the case is the dry apply kind. Static application I believe. I have not had great luck in the past with these and they tend to get scratched up and need replacing too soon. I got the Zagg protector first and had a much better time putting it on and getting it smooth with no lint or air bubbles with the wet application vs the static. It was much more durable and resisted scratches well. The only down side to the Zagg skins is that they have a bit of tack to the touch even when dry. My finger did not slide over it quite as well as I had wanted. The Skinomi skin (like the Zagg) has a lifetime guarantee and is a wet application skin, but doesn't have the bit of tack to the touch as the Zagg did. Do not be afraid of using these wet application protectors. I was a bit apprehensive at first but after using several now they are actually much simpler, more durable, and more forgiving in their installation than the static protectors. There have been many you tube videos on the application which will help a first timer put it on.

As far as the flex/gel type material on the case goes, yes it does get a bit "linty" after pulling it out of the pocket, but it wipes right down with hand holding and looks the same as when I first got it. It doesnt seem to attract dust, just fabric lint. Even then it doesnt so much attract it as gain it if rubbed up against cotton. Long and short is that the lint doesn't bother me really at all and its not much worse on a regular basis than what you see in the pic.:)

One last note as to the thickness of the case. I noticed the other day that I did not have to adjust my car holders width at all to place this in it with the new case on. I was a bit snug but not enough to spread the holder arms from their previous position.

Hey chinkster,

Great alternative! I hadn't seen these yet. I am actually tempted to (and probably will) buy one of these just because they are so cheap to compare with the O-box. I will certainly post back when I receive it with comparisons. The only comment/opinion I have with my past experience with these types of cases is that they tend to collect dust under the case and depending on where you live (where I am gets stupid hot in the summer) they feel a bit loose on the phone. I also have seen them collect some scratches more. These cases also tend add a bit more bulk to the device than I usually prefer. This is my first Otterbox case and I can honestly report that it feels as though there is no case on at all now that I have had it for a week or so. By that I mean it feels like it is just part of the phone. Solid/sealed/and comfortable in the hand.

Again thank you for the reference. I hope it compares well to the O-box as it is so much more affordable.

yeah this case is great for those who don't want a hard case or a silicone case. the only thing you might have to do is because the side volume buttons are so easily pressed, use a razor and slice off the little dots on the inside that is used to make the buttons easier to press. you will know what i am talking about when you put it on

I just got mine this morning and replaced the Skin I had on there with the OB and I really like it.
I have used a Curve with the Defender since I got it and the thing is great.
I am on construction sites and outdoors and drop the phone with some frequency and the Defender keeps it looking like new really.

So when the Crackberry croaked last week and I was talked into the Hero I went to Otterbox as my first add-on.
They said I got the 2nd one they shipped.

It is sort of like a reversed Defender where the hard case is on the outside and the silicone on the inside....mostly.
It is nice as it slides in and out of pockets and holsters easily where the Defender or silicone cases would resist sliding.

It feels as solid as the Defender to me but does not bulk up the phone like the Defender.

I installed the screen cover that comes with it and it already has crap under it so I will be trying one of the wet app. ones soon.

I had to go out of town with the new Hero and needed a way to carry it quickly so now with the case and a "RipOffs" holster I am set to go.

By the way this is my first post here, just registered to share my experience with the case.

More to follow.

ty for the post and mini review.

anyone else get theirs already? im really looking for a comprehensive review with images and everything. im looking to buy a case asap, and this looks like the best option available for the price/quality.

Funny I ordered a Seidio Innocase combo last week and it came yesterday. Tried it out, and for almost $10 more than the Otterbox, the Innocase wasn't nearly what I was expecting in terms of quality and shock absorption.

The belt holster was okay, although I originally though I'd use it for convenience, I wore it around for a bit and felt like a tool. Just not my thing to wear my phone on my hip. Also, it would require dremeling to use the headphone jack while holstered. Will be returning to Amazon for a refund.

I've seen Otterbox cases on friends Iphones and loved the feel of them; you can definitely tell just by holding one that they will take a beating. Ordered my Commuter case yesterday after being disappointed with the Innocase. Shipped almost immediately, and should be in my Atlanta mailbox on Thursday. Thanks for the discount code!

I can't wait for more reviews. I want something that will keep dust out of the phone. Mine is gonna need the dust cleaned from inside it, and I only want to do it once, then find a way to keep it out.

Got mine today! Everything is awesome except for the screen protector which was horrible! I was really surprised, because they usually have fantastic screen protectors.

I agree the screen protector sucks bad.
I also could ot get in on without crap under it and though they would send another one I am sure the same thing would happen.
I noticed that on mine the tabs to remove the liner were the opposite of the instructions so I could not apply the thing slowly but I had to remove the entire liner before trying. This almost makes certain you will get something under there.

I also don't see this case keeping dust out of the phone at all like the Defender series would.
The phone is not sealed inside at any point of the case letting stuff get in through the camera hole on back and the entire face on front.

I imagine if they do release a Defender for the Hero that would be the safest but I could not wait till that happened.

Got mine today, very good fit and slimmer then my Body Glove case.

I didnt bother with the screen protector, I already have the Zagg one on there.

Overall, a very solid feeling case. I kinda got used to to tackyness of the body glove case but I am sure I will get used to it. It will be a LOT easier to swap out batteries now (the body glove case was a pain to open).

Very happy with it... well worth the 35 bux. I am gonna keep the body glove case as a back up though :)

we need a full review and pictures people!

Buy it! There is nothing more that you need to know!

On the screen protector note: I think that they may have put the "remove this side first/second" stickers on the opposite sides! I realized this after I had given up trying to get the damn thing on, but the down side for me was very smooth and nice while the up side was extremely tacky feeling. This would definitely explain the problem.

Got mine today. Considering I had Fully Body ZAGG on my hero, the fit is a slight bit tight. Thinking about removing the body part of the ZAGG to get the full effect of my OB. Overall I really like my OtterBox.

I like mine, but still hope they come out with a defender for the hero. That said IMO it is the best cover available at this time.
