Accessories Otterbox Commuter just hit.... linky

Just got mine in the mail today and I like the case! Although it isn't Made in America, this is still a really good case. I like that it isn't any bulkier than my HTC silicone case. My only issue is that it makes the phone look Blackbery-ish because it covers up the red camera bezel. But honestly, I'm just picking nits... As a pocket carrier, I think this case will be an upgrade from all silicone, as silicone attracts dust and tends to stick to the inside of my pockets...

They had them at the corp store near me, i think someone said it earlier, don't forget the premier disc of 25% is available no coupons etc

Commuter case is perfect in every way except for the bottom flap...really stupid design, although they may not have had another option

I'm almost tempted to just cut it off

I love the case but am totally with you on the bottom flap...not sure how long that will stay on there.

Also would have loved to see them carry a bit more of the hard plastic part to cover the top (between the power button and the headphone jack). With nothing rigid there, I'm worried the silicone part will stretch and become a little loose over time.

After using this case for a day, I gotta say that I'm not crazy about the looks of it. With the Otterbox on, the EVO just doesn't really look like an EVO anymore. Also, I'm not a huge fan of the feel of the plastic back, as I just like the way silicone feels to the touch (soft and grippy). This plastic just feels kinda cheap.

HOWEVER, I will not go back to my HTC silicone case for two reasons: (1) it attracts too much dust and it doesn't protect the ports and (2) the grippiness of the silicone makes it a pain to insert and remove from my pocket. Although I'm not crazy about the looks of it, I ABSOLUTELY love the functionality of this case and the peace of mind it gives me. Now, I put the EVO in my pocket without fretting over getting pocket lint into the ports and under the screen (I had a Hero with dust under the screen so I was VERY cautious with my EVO so the same thing wouldn't happen). Now I just use my phone as a phone and I no longer have to baby it. Also, I haven't had any issues with the bottom flap at all....

In sum, if you are more concerned about aesthetics (looks), then this case will disappoint you because it kinda makes the EVO look like a Blackberry. But if you just wanna be able to use your EVO without worrying about dust and pocket lint getting into the ports and under the screen, then this Otterbox case rocks! For me, it's a keeper.*

*That said, I'll be keeping my eye out for the Otterbox silicone case...

Update on the Defender Case status. As I mentioned previously, I made the decision to pre-order the Defender case from techie warehouse. They had a 10% off coupon code and Free Shipping...so the order out the door is $44.09. I'm a big proponent of Buy Right/Buy Once...meaning I would rather spend a few more dollars to get what I really want, rather than spend less...knowing I wanted something else, and in fact buying the pricier item later down the road...thus spending twice as much. I'll forgive myself for buying the Body Glove case because the Otterbox cases didn't exist at the time... ;)

Anyway...I called Otterbox earlier this week to find out if they had any idea of a timeline for the Defender Case release? The rep basically told me that when it's posted on their website that it's available...that's when they'll know. "But it'll be soon..." OK...that answered alot. Well I did get an email from techie warehouse last night: We are at the top of the list with Otterbox to receive this item as soon as they receive them in stock. Currently we have no ETA when these cases will be in stock. Our best estimate is about 1-2.5 weeks until they are in stock. Otterbox is currently waiting on their container load to be received with these items.

So I'm relaxing till I hear more. Techie warehouse informed me today that they prefer to use USPS for the Free Shipping, which works out perfectly for me. USPS delivers 6 days a week vs 5 days a week for UPS and Fed Ex. So far I'm happy... :)

I've been using my Otterbox Commuter for a week+ and other than the goofy port flap have been pretty happy. Two things I wish they would have addressed in a better manner.

1. The port flap, it's not designed to keep it tucked in very well. Why they didn't elect design two nubs that match the ports I'll never know.
2. The plastic back slides all over my center console like a square hockey on ice. A couple areas of silicone poking through the hard cover would have alleviated this. Heck, even the POS Body Glove cover I purchased didn't slide this much.

As several have mentioned trying to obtain any credible info from the folks at Otterbox borders on impossible. I exchanged multiple emails and got nowhere beyond pissed off, dam iPhone 4. At any rate I'm still planning an attempt to track down one of their design engineers who worked on the EVO project to see if they'll share any info.

Bottom line, would I purchase it if I knew what it was going to be like...not for full price and likely not for 20% off. It partially lives up to the Otterbox reputation I knew of BB and iPhones.

It doesn't bother me that the phone slides around but the bottom port just pisses me off daily. I've found that this phone is so beast I'll put my pinky finger along the bottom when holding it upright, and as soon as my finger hits that protruding edge they made, it unseats the port cover. Or taking it out of my pocket it I have to grab it just right. I hate having to be so careful with one of the best cases.

Keep us informed I'd like to hear what the designers have to say.

Ask them about the flappy top as well that lets in lint like no tomorrow, and why they couldn't just make that part like the defender and impact, going down to the screen with cutouts for the front camera and sensors.

And why they made it so when on the kickstand the contacting edge is not flat and the phone wobbles..

My buddy has an Otterbox Impact Series Case for his iPhone 3G, and the silicone on both sides of the phone is a joke in regards to how loose it is. You could carry spare change in there, the way it flaps around. Just an observation in relation to how the silicone fits on other phones.
