OtterBox Defender

Just my personal opinion.... I was very disappointed with the defender for my bionic.

My only real complaint about the Otterbox Defender is that the belt clip is horrible. The spring is too weak, allowing the clip to open too easily. Combine this with their misguided attempt to make the belt clip double as a kick stand by allowing it to lock in the open position, and the belt clip ends up locked in the open position on my belt too often, resulting in the holster and phone coming off my belt. While I have no concern that the phone will be damaged by the fall, I am concerned that I might lose the phone entirely.

Thanks for the tip though. I obviously already have a Defender, but I'm considering buy one at this price so I can experiment with improving the clip.
 
Yeah.. I have read that the only bad thing about it is the belt clip. What I think I will like about it is the screen protector not being an adhesive protector. My wife will not use the holster on hers so I will have a second one for backup, or to tinker with if the clip needs some kind of modding. I wonder why they went with adhesive screen protector on the commuter?
 
Hmm.... Never had a problem with the belt clip, but I don't try to use it as a stand. My big complaint for the Bionic Defender case is the placement of the cover for micro usb and HDMI ports. To plug into them you have to bend the rubber flap back so far that I expect it to break at some point - I think it should have been placed better. Otherwise, it's still the best case for protecting a phone from anything short of dunking it in the toilet IMO.

My phone would fall off my belt several times a day. I now have the Seidio Innocase and holster, very happy with both. More pricey but worth it IMO.
 
Thats the case that I use. Its a little modifed though. I popped out the screen protector and put a zagg shield directly on the Bionic. I think this is the most effective means of protecting my investment. :D
 
I never had a problem with any of my otterboxes. And even better, they are under warranty, so if anything ever goes wrong you just call or email them and they will send you a brand new case, free. Cant beat that,.
 
Just giving my opinion on everything. I ended up with the Otterbox Commuter. I absolutely love this case. I felt that the Defender was way too bulky, the screen protector seemed unnecessary and I'd heard bad reviews about the belt clip. The Commuter, is a perfect fit, not too bulky, top quality protection, and my screen is still as fresh as the day it came out of the box. I would highly recommend anyone looking for a case to give it a try. The rubber jacket inside the plastic shell has thorough covers for all the ports. I can't say enough about this case. A+ purchase. I managed to get mine for $20 shipped on eBay Buy it Now. There are several available now for $22.90 shipped Buy it Now.

They are very responsive and helpful. Can't say as much for seidio.

The defender case for my droid incredible was well designed (except for the same holster issue) and offered great protection. Their case for the bionic is no longer fully enclosed. The camera has no protection at all. The seidio has full protection for the back of my phone, is a bit smaller and is two cases in one.
 
Hi all,

Just got my defender in the mail today from NewEgg... my first impression is WOW this thing is HUGE ( I know, that's what she said...) but really, it takes a slender phone and makes it gargantuan! it more than doubles the thickness, and adds about 1/2 inch to all sides. However, it does look like it will survive a direct hit from a scud missile. Cb

It is a very large case. I got one as part of the package when I bought my used Bionic, and thought I would sell it, but I think I may keep it to use as my motorcycle mount for my Bionic.
 
Yeah, for something like that, or somebody who works (or plays) outside a lot it would be perfect. I think I'll play with it for a week before I decide. At least the price was right! Cb
 
A quick fix for the defender belt clip problem. Break off the little tab that converts it to a stand (locks the clip open) and viola no more problems with clip sticking and phone wanting to fall off your belt.

This is what I did and works great.

I thought about doing that (and may still do it), but what I'd really like to do is replace the spring with something offering more resistance, or add a locking mechanism at the top of the clip that would prevent it from opening until unlocked.
