Root [OUDHS] Guide to Rooting your Premia 4G

I dont have an option to do that when I hold shit and right click

Hm. Ok, instead:

Unzip the zip file to C:\ then.

So if you end up having adb.exe in C:\

you can run a command like:

Code:
C:\>_ADB shell

or

Code:
C:\>_adb.exe shell

You have to point cmd to the right directory so that it can find adb.exe when you ask to run it. Do you understand what I'm saying?

Not working im sure i installed sdk tools wrong

All I can tell you is do a google search with a tutorial. I think Elk is right, after installing SDK at some point you have to configure XP to pick up ADB in whatever folder it resides in. I installed SDK so long ago I can't remember exactly what is involved, since I rarely use it :(

Ok i figured out thaat none of the driver worked the only way i can get my phone to show up is if i put it to connect as a mass storage device

Haha yeah mint 14 is nice
I have a 2 terabyte external HDD
Its majorly partitioned
Exactly seven different partitions.
One is windows 8, one Mac osx mountain lion, one is Ubuntu 13.04,
One is backtrack 5 rc2, one is fedora, and the other is mint 14.
All on one HDD
I'm proud of myself
But mostly use Ubuntu and backtrack
I'm a backtrack kde person but an Ubuntu gnome person too.

If it only shows up as mass storage, then something is wrong. You can't push files to the phone if it only mounted the sd card.

Thanks all for the great work and links. Couldn't be easier - Rooted in 20 seconds on win 7! BTW... Another easy way to check root (If you have avast installed) is to enable the firewall. If you're rooted you'll get a SU request, if not it'll tell you you're not rooted! ;-) Now... lets see what sorta trouble we can get into, lol!

Just thought I'd add this as it worked for me, first try, without a single hiccup!!!

DISCLAIMER: Yadda, Yadda, Yadda... You screw the pooch... Yadda, Yadda, Yadda... Yup, 'YOU' screwed the pooch... N ur phone, too!!! Read. Ask questions. Then read some more. Then ask some more questions. Read unitl ur eyes bleed profusely n you fall into a sleep-deprived coma. Ask so many questions that you get digitally socked-in-the-nose for being extremely annoying!!! Then... and only then, Grasshopper, will you be able to snatch the security from the palm of my phone... Then, Grasshopper, it will be time for you to leave... (And kick some serious un-rooted cell-phone booty!!!)

Here's what I did:

(NOTE: You should be running Win-7 n Ur phone should 'NOT' be attached to ur puter to begin with).

1.) Download motochopper.zip (Link in the 1st post by thread author, Shabbypenguin).

2.) Extract it to your desktop (Might help to clear ur desktop beforehand so ya can find things n so on!).

3.) Download handsetwindriver.exe (2nd link in the 1st post by elk1007 *Confirmed Working*).

4.) Dbl-clk handsetwindriver and install drivers (I didn't restart puter - maybe you need to???).Ur puter will now do the 'drivers installing' cha-cha!

5.) Plug ur USB cable into ur puter (Make sure ya got a 'DATA' cable n not just a 'CHARGING' cable) n then into your phone.

6.) Ur phone will now pop-up with a USB connection type selection at this point. Ya gotta make a choice here, MTP or PTP. I chose MTP(Media Device) cause I'm a dumb a$$ n didn't read others suggestions. I'm also a very lucky sob n so... yea, it worked (Choose wisely, Neo, the Red Pill or the Blue Pill!).

7.) I went to settings-security and checked 'UNKNOWN SOURCES' (Only because my last phone was an Ascend M860 n my drug-addled brain musta slipped into auto-pilot n thought we was tweaking that phone for the 10-millionth time, lmfao!) Let The Force guide you, Luke!!!

8.) Then, also in SETTINGS, head on over to 'DEVELOPER OPTIONS' and check USB Debugging. (Ur puter will now do the 'device discovered/drivers installing' cha-cha again). Let it finish n you should notice (If ur anal like me n like to try n read what the helz going on a as it's going on) phone drivers n adb drivers n USB device drivers being successfully installed.

9.) Back out of all menus/sub-menus to ur 'HOME' screen.

10.) Now go back on ur puter to the desktop n the files ya shoulda already extracted n right-click run.bat n then left-click 'Run as Administrator' (This is only necessary, the right-click that is, if you're not already logged-in as an Administrator on Win-7). Or ya can do the 'Shift+Right Click' thing to bring up the DOS box n command line ur way to the same place n keystroke all the way through - whatever's more familiar n less likely to have ya screwin the pooch, lol!

11.) If all went well, after you hit 'ENTER' to begin the root you should be rooted in less than a minute. Wait till it says to hit enter to reboot ur phone n then wait till ur phone actually reboots n the DOS box closes on it's own before disconnecting anything n so on.

12.) THAT'S IT!!! You're rooted...

Hopefully this helps you all out there on windowz, hopefully ya get a couple laughs along the way to take the edge off(Darth Maul knows I was stressing over fubar'n my brand new phone) n hopefully I don't get banned for tryin to upstage the fine gentlemen/women who actually did all the work n research that goes into getting things to this point where I can root my just-released, brand-new phone in under 20 seconds with only the slightest case of stomach ulcers.

Seriously, a H-U-G-E round of thanks to Dan Rosenberg, Shabbypenguin, n all the other devs/members who've contributed to this thread. Thank you all so much!!!

So... who's gotta custom ROM??? ;-)

Thanks for posting the process you undertook.

Do you get drunk before you post?

This is the first time ive ever tried to root with this method. ive used Odin before.

Can someone please explain carefully for me how to root this phone? with working links, please?

i tried the adb devices in cmd prompt, nothing is listed. i installed all sdk and drivers (except for the one saying confirmed working, the installer gives an error before opening, i think the installer is broken) listed in this thread.
The Handset WinDriver.exe download keeps giving me different sized exes. I don't think it is giving me the whole file. Every time I try to open it, says to redownload again.

Final Edit: Found the handsetwindriver froma 2shared site, got to download all of it this time. allowed my pc to have adb connected to my phone. got it to root. thanks!

I thanked shabby, for the info, but I found it easier to switch over to Ubuntu to run the script, but I did have the sdk already set up on it.

Now I can't wait for CWM, I might mount the system and start making some changes:D

EDIT:
So has anyone tried to install the Google Now for ICS from XDA?

I originally came across the Motochopper via some YouTube kid that seemed drunk or stoned or both. It worked. I think I basically did what "XyLoSe" did.

This time around, I thought I would read as much as I can before going forward again. Why a 2nd phone U ask? Because I got my first Android, rooted it, and was having fun until I bricked it today. Maybe having Titanium Backup Pro, ROM Toolbox Pro, Lucky Patcher and Android Tweaker Pro all on the same phone is asking for trouble? The last thing I remember is attempting a "Reset Tweaks" with Android Tweaker Pro and after that the phone would not finish starting/booting. The hardware reset, hold volume Up and down buttons and then pressed the power key, failed [when attempted by some MetroPCS guy]. New phone. Woo!

Going forward... I thought I noticed some chatter about installing ADK before using the Motochopper script? What is it? Why? And, does it matter if the "SU" and "Superuser" files are most up-to-date? The Handset Windriver thing allowed me to connect my phone. Finally, has anyone had any trouble with Lucky Patcher? I think it updated my "Superuser" app and maybe after that my phone was no longer rooted?

EDIT: I followed what "XyLoSe" outlined. When I attempt to start "Superuser", I get
The Superuser binary (su) must be updated. PLease choose an installation method. Recovery mode installation is recommended for HTC devices. Choices: cancel, Recovery Install, Install

I choose "Install" and get
There was an error installing Superuser. Please send a log of the error to the developer.

I don't remember this the last time I did this.

IDK Why your phone bricked.

You need ADB so that you can push files into a root directory. That's how the exploit works. It pushes them in (I assume through an exploit with ADB) and then is able to run su from the root directory.

[Sorry] You mentioned installing SDK in an earlier post. This is what I was I wondering about - What is it? Why install? [The HandSetWinDriver has an Android component. Maybe this is what allows the script in Motochopper to work?] And, I was wondering about the "SU" and "SuperUser" files and if they need to be up-to-date?

I am trying to understand all this better the 2nd time around to [hopefully] avoid "bricking" another phone.

Finally, I browsed the "huaweidevice" web sit and could not find my phone??

EDIT: 1. I screwed up and edited my previous post. Plz read my previous post. 2. I did the script and don't have Root Access [or BusyBox] according to "Root Checker Pro".

EDIT2: I did the script again [just to be sure]. It complained and told me that "Superuser.apk" already existed [which it did]. But, it stated that it completed successfully! Now, "Root Checker Pro" verifies both "Root Access" and "Busybox"!
Does anyone have an idea why running a 2nd time made a difference?
