Our days are numbered?

This may be why VMUSA has been holding off on ICS for MT. After these new phones have been released they may upgrade MT.

Your kidding right? I highly doubt it... Thinking like that would mean that the OV should've got gingerbread with the release of the slider and wildfire s which have gingerbread. I mean it's not out of the realm of impossibility close, but not quite.

I will probably upgrade if they get a better phone with front facing camera and 1ghz or more... Mainly because the reception on the triumph is horrid, I sometimes don't get calls, it will go to my voice mail. Which doesn't bother me as long as I get my info one way or another, aka texting is perfect. I'm a little interested in a VM Evo, any news on that?

I saw a video on youtube of some guy saying VM USA will get iphone soon. Not that I care, I am a hardcore droid fan, and just can't change my ways. But I know VM would become even richer seeing all the people who spend massive money on a contract plan could get an iphone cheaper, and most people crave the piece of crap.

As for updates... VM is worthless with updates, sorry to say. When I had the intercept, I swear we waited like 6 extra days of the normal release date... It was like people were crowding the facebook page thirsting for the update. I don't think they feel it necessary to update an older phone when hardware is half of its problems, and they make more money selling new phones with their crap uploaded to it, rather than upgrading a whole system.

I don't think Virgin would get three iphone. I mean sprint only got it last fall, so why would they give it to Virgin? Did this guy have a source, and are you sure he was talking about VM USA?

The One V looks like an attractive phone, both software and hardware-wise, but there is one specification which worries me -- "Beats Audio."

Personally speaking, I feel like the addition of Beats Audio is more of a disadvantage than anything else; this is mainly due to the fact that Beats heasphones often perform abysmally in labaratory tests when compared to other brands in the same price range, or even lower. (http://www.headphoneinfo.com/ has some excellent examples)
Essentially, the performance of Beats Audio headphones often implies an over-emphasized (and often distorted due to their headphone quality) bass-sound.
The long short of it is, I have reservations about my music sounding that way if I get this phone or other HTC phones with "Beats Audio."

Any thoughts?

From what I read so long as you don't use the stock media player it doesn't matter. And there would probably be an option to toggle it although I don't know for sure.

No source, I only saw a video on youtube. His only thought was the fact sprint got it, therefore VM will too sometime soon. Along with something about the data plans price going up. But if they ever released an iphone, I think it would be similar to the blackberry with the $10 extra a month. As said before, I would never buy an iphone, too into the droid interface. I can't even pick up an ipod touch without being disgusted, lol.

Beats is actually being integrated at a system wide level for the One series, so every app (be it music player, video player, or youtube) will use the beats. What isn't clear is if the beats only gets activated when you are using beats headphones, or whether it is always there, no matter what you are using to listen to the sounds your phone is producing. Also, in reviews, it doesn't seem to be that beats detracts from sound quality, but that is such a subjective thing to measure, that it will likely just be up to an individual to decide.

Pretty sure it will be on ALL new HTC phones, not just the one series.

3.7" screen no thanks I could never downgrade.

Smaller screen doesn't necessarily mean bad... If the touchscreen axis don't snap then I can almost guarantee that it would be an upgrade. Although if you use HDMI out and the one V doesn't have any sort of tv-out through either MHL or the Headphone port than the MT would be your best bet.

I'd say it's probably closer to a system-wide software EQ tweak, kind of like a permanent edit in DSP Manager. Anyhow, I hope that installing a custom ROM would amend that.

I agree. About the signal, is there any way to boost reception? I've heard a lot about bad reception on the MT but looking at the coverage map it makes me think it's a fault of the signal not the MT.

It is the fault of the Triumph. When I first got mine I put it side by side with my Optimus V. The Triumph is horrible compared to the optimus v. I had changed the PRL on the Optimus V and that helped a ton. With the Triumph, it actually didn't help to change the PRL and it might have made it a little worse.

Out in the middle of the soccer field at a local park I could stream Youtube videos no problem on the optimus v, but I was lucky if I even got a 1x signal with the Triumph. Even with full signal bars on the Triumph I can not get over 300 kbps now. With the Optimus at even half signal I was able to get 1-1.4 mbps. I do think Virgin has just slowed all the data down now though.

It's a shame. I did a speedtest earlier and I was getting 8k down and 36k up. The data is definitely crippled in my area in addition to the MT's terrible reception.

I like the One V and Triumph a lot but I'm very dissatisfied with my service right now. It's disappointing because VM USA is beginning to shape up into a better carrier and they are held back with such a bad network (yes I know it's not like that everywhere, but Phx, AZ is a big city and it shouldn't be this bad)

I watched the Richard Branson video and I agree with his mission statement. Why pay what other carriers charge when all you're looking for is unlimited data? They charge you 35 bucks which is more than fair but when that unlimited data doesn't work then there's no value for me left.
Branson has nothing to do with Virgin USA. Sprint bought Virgin USA so what can he do?
The video uploader is virginmobileusa and Richard specifically mentions the 35/mo Unlimited Data so the video is certainly for the American branch however I do agree that he might not be able to do anything for us since Sprint is running the show on our side.

I signed up with Virgin right when they got the Intercept. The speeds were slower than the HTC Hero on Sprint which makes sense because the Intercept is not rev. a. once I got the Optimus V I was able to once again get 1-1.4 mbps almost anywhere in the Phoenix Metro area, just like I did with the Hero on Sprint. Now with the Triumph it is 200-300 kbps max. When I first got the Triumph I was able to get 500-800 with a full signal but I am positive that Virgin simply throttles all data now down to the slower 200kbps range.

I'm pretty sure this is my last month with Virgin. I'm going to get either a g2x or some other tmobile phone and I'm going to sign up for the 5gb a month 4g $30 plan at walmart. Virgin is just not worth staying with anymore. While I hardly ever use my 3g data, when I am at the store and want to check my bank account or some other info I expect to be able to use the service. It's a joke that on my first day of a new month that I am getting pings of 350-500 and down speeds of 30-300 kbps.

I really do think Sprint should be sued for false advertising because they are not providing unlimited 3g, they aren't even providing 3g. Factor in the issue of the Triumph being the worst manufactured phone I have ever seen and I am just so sad to see what became of a great service. I'm calling today to get my 3rd replacement Triumph. 2 of them have been new in the box. What a joke.

Oh, and Branson, not sure what his being in that advertisement is about. I have to assume it is just some marketing scheme to try and separate Sprint and Virgin in the minds of consumers. Unless he owns some good portion of Sprint stock.

You won't get far because they are actually providing 3g you may not get full 3g speeds, but either way it is still 3g. I signed up for VM before the intercept (like a month before) and had the rumor touch and can tell you my speeds sucked... Then again my speeds have always sucked on all my VM phones. Also the MT and OV have the same signal with very little difference. They may have different amount of bars which aren't accurate at all, but the actual decibels are about the same. I couldn't tell you why you have slower download speeds from the OV to the MT, since I have always had like a max of 500kbps download.

that comes back to what area you live in. I had T-Mob's 3G USB Broadband temporarily and the thing worked great in my house. Also T-Mob clearly states that only the first 100MB is 4G speeds and after that it's 3G. I'm alright with that. As long as the data actually works. I need that data when I'm roaming the city and I need to look something up.

He is probably just a part of a new marketing campaign being their celebrity for it. VMUSA is owned by Sprint and has no affiliation with any of the other Virgin branded products or with the previous owner. This is probably just Sprint's marketing idea to distance themselves from Virgin in the minds of their less informed customers.

I'm not suing, it's not worth my time as I'll just find a different provider. That said, Sprint markets Virgin as "using the same 3g network as Sprint" and advertise 3g speeds. They do not advertise saying, "using the same 3g network as sprint except that we throttle all data to less than 3g speeds on Virgin." Legal arguments aside, there is a case to be made by their false advertising about their speeds and network performance.

The Triumph has a weaker radio than the Optimus V and anyone claiming otherwise is full of it. Owning both phones, multiple Triumphs in fact since the QA is horrible, and having held them side by side I can attest to the fact that the Triumph signal is always weaker than the Optimus V. Whether using the "bars" or looking at the signal strength itself, the Triumph loses every time. In fact the Triumph also suffers from the problem of having a 3g signal and then just dropping it often and switching back to 1x or just retrying until it reconnects the 3g.

Edit:
One last point about the advertised data speeds and the actual speeds they allow us to use. Recently they began a new throttling policy where they now advertise unlimited data at 3g speeds until you reach the 2.5 GB limit and they they will throttle you down to 256kbps or so. This implies you are allowed actual 3g speeds and are not being throttled until you reach 2.5 GB in a month. Since they throttle you all the time they are once again committing false advertising. Take a sprint phone in one hand, virgin in the other. Test the speeds, if the Sprint phone has 3g speeds and the Virgin doesn't they are throttling your "same network as Sprint" data without hitting the 2.5GB limit.
