Root [OUTDATED]Boost ZVC and ZV4_21 CWM Flashable Update

Do I understand this correctly, if we have applied the OTA update and broken root, there is no way to root any longer? So considering I have applied the OTA update already, I'm SOL? :(

SOL indeed atm.. Just hang tight guys.. I know you have no root access, but it doesn't make your phone useless. As soon as there is a new working exploit to re-root for those who did the OTA Update it will be posted. Sorry for the inconvenience, but just have to sit tight.

Great post bionic. Thanks for the help. As well as all the others here.
Will do tonight and post my results.
No problem. I realize some of the posts weren't exactly newb friendly with some of the instructions. Most of us have been here since they got Root and CWM so there was no real need to state step by step instructions. So I hope this can clarify a few things..

Hi,

After installing this per the instructions above I receive the unexpectedly stopped error popups during the start up wizard, first one for Android system and then one for Swype , then one for the wizard itself.

I want to use the stock rom until MarkBeats is more stable and all the features are working correctly. Can I use the boostupdate.zip (ZVC link) with the stock rom? Because these are the errors I am receiving after following the instructions above exactly (except for the last part to use MarkyBeats rom). I don't use the other file ZV4_21.

Also, if I ever get it to successfully update - will this remove the request to update OTA?

Thank you!! =)

Well I am not sure about the Force Closes, I cannot be sure but MB ZVC ROM may fix those. It should also fix the Update Request. I know I got the checking firmware popup after I first did it, it checked then said no update found. Haven't seen it since. I would try using the MB ROM and if it doesn't fix things.

Ty for the suggestion but, unfortunately, until the issue with bluetooth is fixed I'm afraid I will be staying with the stock version =(

Also getting force closes with swype and android system after installing update via cwm. Phone is useless and it wont even let me update ota as that crashes a quarter of the way thru. Currently restored but this update notification is bothering me

So did anybody with some knowledge of android phones take a look at that tutorial?

Sent from my LG-LG855 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-5

whats causing everything to force close after flashing these is its not patching the files during the install like its supposed to. its deleting and adding new stuff but since its not patching anything files are trying to access other files that no longer exists.

the reason flashing a ROM fixes the FC'ing is cause it removes everything the updates just did except for the new baseband. so you end up where you started, just with a new modem lol.

*After that as long as you are on the Stock ROM (as in not installed Marky Beats or Undeniable Marquee) you can go to the first Post in this Thread and flash the update in CWM.
Can I / does it make a difference if I use the official update located in cache, or is it the same thing?

So, I shouldn't follow that tutorial now, or everything will force close? I'm currently rooted, without the update, and not sure what to do next. Was going to follow your tutorial now, but now it seems as if I should just ignore the update prompt and wait until either I can update the official way and then re-root, or wait until this force closing / error issue is fixed before updating the posted way?

I believe they are the same update, we are just doing it manually to keep the Root and Cwm intact.. OTA Update blocks the exploits used, so as of right now no way to Re-Root and add CWM back on the OTA Update.. The TUT I wrote is what I had personally done to upgrade and I am not having any Force Closes, at least not due to the update. The ROM however, is in Beta stage, Only a couple known issues with that and FC's are not one. Your call whether to wait or take the plunge haha. Not sure why some are having issues and others aren't with the FC's though.

Does this mean that tech. I am not Updated if I Flashed MB after the Update?

you have the new baseband, nothing else tho.

Ah.. Well shucks. Was lead to think I was updated lol. So guess I'll have to wait for the exploit fix for the OTA. Thanks for the info Blood! Do you happen to know the difference between the ZVC Update and the ZV4 Update? I am on BOOST and used the ZVC Link.

ZVC was released for sprint and ZV4 was for boost. they are pretty much the same just with different apps installed, different build.props and a few other differences.

Any way, or need really, for me to switch to the ZV4?

Hi Bionic,

I have been quiet lately because I soft-bricked my phone and it was a hassle to get it replaced by those fine folks at Best Buy. Accused me of doing something wrong; and that there was no update??? I plead innocent. ;)

Anyway, when I tried the update originally, I had reverted back to stock and something went wrong with the update. It never took.

Anyway, when the new ZV4 update from Boost was again pushed to me, I marched into Best Buy and had them do it. So I now have the update, but no root.

One thing I did notice, however, is that the phone seems to run more smoothly, and I don't believe it has CIQ. I tested it with 3-4 CIQ Detectors and they all came back negative.

I am waiting patiently for a new exploit...

Yeah I used the Sprint ZVC Update since there wasn't a BOOST ZV4 Update available yet. Now I'm waiting for there to be an exploit too, so that I can switch to the ZV4 and retain Root and CWM.

Thanks... I appreciate that you're so helpful.

Does that have any effect on signal and reception? This phone has some kind of issue with signals, since none of my other phones have had this problem, and I believe it contributes (in part) to the horrible battery life. Would updating improve this in any way?

If so, I might just do that and then hope and wait for a new exploit. At this point, the main reason I want to root is to use titanium backup to back everything up when I move to a new phone, which I plan to do as soon as something better comes along. Since that might be a while, I'm hoping a new root will come along in the meantime.

Hi guys I need help I think i unrooted my phone i delete the su.apk and superuser.apk but this Zv4 update keeps telling me to install it but it restarts and the andriod guy gets half way done and shows a ! and i check my status im still at Zv3 , also im on boost

I am able to boot into the the recovery mode on my Marquee by holding the Volume - and the power buttons. One of the options is to apply update from sdcard.
