Outlook alternatives

I've started to use Outlook (2003) since I got my Desire, but don't like it - it is clunky and crashes a lot. Does anyone have any experience of any other programs (other than Google) combining mail/contacts/diary?

Well, i use Thunderbird (email) and Lightening (calendar) from Mozilla.

They can take a bit of setting up, and a bit of googling. But they are free and they just work.

However so far HTC Sync doesn't recognise them.

whats wrong with google? It syncs perfectly with your phone. You can also access the gmail website offline (theres the option to sync it to your pc), so you also have offline access to your emails.
