I've downloaded SetCPU before (the free version on the xda forums) and it would only let my underclock the phone to below the default 600Mz. I was under the impression the that $2 version in the market was a donation app, but does it have more features (such as overclocking) than the free one on the forums?

First link is what you want, just erase Cache, and Dav Cache and you'll have a new kernel :")

Oooohhhhhh ok. I must have missed the fact that you didn't have a custom kernel installed. I was looking this thread over and was like 'why the f**k can't this guy OC?'
You can flash over a custom ROM, follow Indifferent's instructions, and remember, only wipe cache and dalvik cache. DO NOT wipe data like you do when installing a ROM, if you do, you WILL have problems.
After it's installed, open up setcpu and you should be able to set the clock speed past 600mhz, let us know how it goes.

Hello I'm a little lost and need some help. I'm new to the droid but I managed to root my phone and dl the Set Cpu. I know i need the custom kernel I downloaded the folder Download_GNM_TURBO4.zip unzipped it. I don't know what to do next. Can someone help out a noob please.
Youre supposed to put it onto root of sdcard(just on sdcard. Not in any folders) then go into any recovery made for ally. Click flash zip file. Then choose turboxxx.zip and press install
