Root Overclocking help

i dont wanna have to use profiles, but at the same time i dont want my phone 1190-1190 all the time....if the screen is off i'd like it to be 245-245...do I have to use profiles to do that? and if so what do I select for the profile name (i.e. charging, charging ac, charging usb, screen off, battery <, temp > etc.)
 
You might want to try just the kernel with its defaults for a bit (one or two charge cycles), then change one thing at a time (overclock, add profiles, etc.). The reason those who are using smartass aren't using profiles is because smartass basically does everything that typical profiles do automatically. Search for the setcpu guide, here, on this forum. It will explain how to setup profiles correctly. Priority basically means "which profile should activate when the conditions for two ore more profiles are met at the same time".

Gotcha, sorry for the dumb questions, it's just the one thing I don't fully understand

On the main screen, you'll have sliders for min and max. That is *generally* defaulted to 245/998 (some kernels are different). The governor (scaling) determines what frequency within this range to set the frequency at for any given moment. It's usually based on load. Smartass bases it on other things, as well, though. Unless you want to kill your battery, just don't set that min slider that high (same for profiles). As for underclocking (245/245) with the screen off, select screen off under profiles, then set the min and max to 245/245. Again, if you use smartass, this will be done for you (though it's in the ~300 range), but you won't notice much. Again, find that setcpu guide here. It will help a lot.
 
uh oh lol...i was in "manage applications" to uninstall some apps and my phone rebooted, then froze on the loading screen with the burning skull.....
 
whoa whoa, did we clear cache and dalvik first? give it a shot before we go nandroiding willy nilly lol.
 
Yeah, just open up the superuser app and you'll see it in the list, where you can allow it instead of deny it. As for the reboot, have you tried pulling the battery, then turning it back on? If that doesn't work, clear cache/dalvik from recovery, then try to boot. If that still doesn't work, there are other things to try before restoring a nandroid.
 
Yea, my phone just froze again while I was web browsing, I'm assuming thats the Kernel? and yes, I pulled the battery and wiped cache just now...
 
2.6.32.27-Netarchy-toastmod-4.3.2-cfs-sbc-havs-less and that's with SetCPU working at 1190 max 245 min (smartass)
 
I need to get on the ball. I didn't even have time to post that suggestion :p. Needless to say, that is my suggestion as well...
 
sorry i was busy helping others like this one person that cannot seem to make a proper size .bmp to make a splash screen, damn spalsh screens! the bane of existence i say.
