Root Overclocking HTC stock, rooted

Is it possible to overclock a HTC hero running the official rom, I'm under the impression I would need to change the kernals or something but would very much like to keep everything the same if possible.
 
The stock kernel can't be overclocked, sorry. Overclocking requires a kernel with the necessary frequency/voltage tables included during compilation.
