Root Overclocking past 1.6ghz

I'm looking into kernel development myself. One way or another we are getting this thing to out perform its virgin mobile single core brethren

If you want it done and nobody will do it for you, that leaves you with one choice. GP even showed you how to do it. Good luck!

He linked to a triumph kernel which went to 2016 mhz (which my triumph couldn't do but it could handle 1.9ghz so that's what I'm aiming for. That way is on par with original tegra 2 devices

This whole overclocking debate seems to have turned in a negative direction. While I don't understand the vehement opposition people have for the issue, it's certainly not worth creating any bad blood or enmity with the few people with the skill and ability to develop for this particular platform.

I'd suggest that for the greater good of this already too small Elite community, that the issue be tabled for now. It's just not worth it.

IMO, the debate didn't necessarily arise because of the possibility or impossibility of the phone to perform under certain conditions, but because of the disrespectful prodding nature that some people take PERSISTENTLY to urge someone to do something for them. I mean come on these are real people you're talking to on the other end of the line. How do you think a phone call, or even talking to giantpune face to face would result if you insisted every 5 minutes that he needs to do something new with the kernel. I highly doubt the conversation would continue for very long.

Overclocking the Elite pass 1.6GHz could make it unusable due to the processor not really being at 1Ghz but instead being overclocked by the carriers. A device that orginally suppose to be at 600Ghz is just asking for trouble if we do try to go pass 1.6 GHz, which seems to be very stable for the device without putting much strain on it.

Yes, I'd hate for giantpune or any of the other of these generous developers to be soured or driven away by the overzealous demands of impatient forum goers. For my part I apologize for getting involved in the whole thing at all, my weakness is I love a good debate.

I seem to be the start of this issue I'm really sorry for contributing to a debate I just figured what the hell were stuck on a stock modded or what not type ROM on gingerbread then maybe try to crank up what's already been done. Its really more important to look for a way to tether or maybe get a cm10 build which I believe its bring worked on. I've created a page hoping to get Paypal information as I already owe the developers for their generous work

look its great that you are so enthusiastic about this however there's 1 issue in the issue is how you go about doing it many of these guys already told you you cant just come in here demanding people to do things for you have to ask politely if you want to get things done however I appreciate your enthusiasm

He is obviously younger, and completely inexperienced in adult-level forums. I have lurked the forums for months, i watched you guys give break after break to that hereisjohnnow guy until he raged and deleted all his stuff. SO!! Give this kid his lashings, make him shape up, then kindly leave him the hell alone and get back to the normal dichotomy of people who want and people who can provide :D

For that matter, it should not detract from coding progress at all to have someone tug on your coattails and want to see your best work. i understand GP reasoning for not wanting to be the person that releases code that VERY LIKELY will be the DIRECT CAUSE of hardware ruination. HOWEVER - its a VERY minute issue, not something a new and enthusiastic person should be ostracized over. the REAL reason he has become so irratating, is that alot of you have spent months or years learning the corrrect way to posture yourself on these forums and how to drop hints and gently guide the work of the programmers with, lets call them subtle requests. then when someone shows up blasting demands and cutting right to the heart of EVERYONES desires (base desire non-reflective of intelligent override: i.e. : more overclock = faster phone, cm9/10 is better than stock, etc)

this section PARTICULARLY peeved me as i had developed a level of respect for the poster, then this hit :

" but because of the disrespectful prodding nature that some people take PERSISTENTLY to urge someone to do something for them "

what do you mean by some people, is there more than one (remember, LONG TIME LURKER HERE) Its pretty clear you are singling someone out, but using a passive aggressive, non-identifier to communicate your disgust. You are one of the biggest spammers of requests ON this forum. go through the threads on the elite section, take away the comical banter and the " i dont have the right hardware so i CANT do it" talk, and what are you left with : post after post of requests. you sir, are a coward, and your articulation and linguistic skills do not save you from yourself. less dmt, more water........

i say bravo kid, keep being yourself.

I've tried messing with the kernel myself a bit, using this method: Free Your Android - Extracting, Editing and Re-Packing boot.img in Windows

I can unpack the kernel fine, but when i go to repack it, the file it makes is several MB smaller and won't boot. From my limited knowledge of the process, I believe I need to adjust the command line options when I repack it, but I don't know what they should be.

You were able to unpack it and make the necessary edit? I couldn't figure out how and thought I was going to have to compile it from source.

LOL.

I'd suggest building the kernel from source, adding in your edits. Then unpack a working boot image and repack it, replacing the original kernel with the kernel you built from source. Building a kernel was the first source building exercise I was able to do successfully for this phone. It's easy compared to building CM. giantpune posted instructions for how to successfully unpack and repack the boot image for this phone (hint: I beleieve it's in the original CWM thread). Good luck. Let us know how long your phone lasts.

I'm more interested in getting init.d working on my phone than overclocking to be honest. My phone rarely spends more than 10 min a day at 1.6GHz... I'd like to see this phone over clocked further, but really just to see what its capable of... Thanks for the heads up about the instructional post, I'll have to look it up.

I wish I could build a kernel the proper way, but I don't have Linux and installing it isn't an option at this time. Currently my time is very limited and I can only dabble in any kind of android development.

That's all I wanted to see how it could handle maybe 1.8. That might be a max that it can easily handle but maybe provides enough boost to best some tegra 2s

@miediev - download linux, burn it to a cd and set yor pc to boot cd/dvd/blu-ray drive first and put the linux cd in the drive and reset ur pc, you can RUN linux from a cd without having to install over windows.

I've looked into alternative methods of running linux, but that's not where my issue lies... I'm a CNC programmer at a machine shop. I generally work ten hours a day, six days a week, and when I get home I have a wife and daughter that keep me pretty busy. When I do have time to work on anything android, it's while I'm alt-tabbing between that and Mastercam at work, and in that situation running a separate operating system isn't an option.

Oh, and I have my PC at home hooked up to our TV, and convincing the wife to watch Linux for a few hours is not as easy as it sounds.
