Root Overclocking past 1.6ghz

"looks around" Hope i did'nt come in at the wrong time but how did you all overclock your phones? is battery life worse will my phone get warmer what can i expect after i do it. My phone is rooted so if its an app just tell me and i will download it:D

You just flash custom recovery flash giant pune kernel and your good to go it comes overclocked you can use CPU master to change settings battery is superb

Yes, it's really become a very simple process, thanks to giantpune. Simply download and install ClockWorkMod as instructed in the FAQ, there's an apk for it so it's just a few clicks. Then download the latest kernel posted in the kernel thread and put the zip on your sd card, reboot into recovery and flash. I'd also recommend you make a nandroid backup before flashing so you can restore if anything goes wrong.

I'd suggest reading through those threads to get an idea of what exactly is going on if you're unfamiliar with the process.

Alright guys i got the Kernel flashed but ever overclocking app tells me i am not compatible....

Also i flashed my first custom rom:D I was wondering if i should reflash the kernel. I was just going to do it again but i thought i might brick something.

What ROM did you install? Some come with GPs kernel installed already. If your installing the kernel by itself, make sure you flash it then wipe cache and davlik.

Aright i found an app that works! What speed would you recommend for decent performance but good battery life. Something for on the go!

1612 max with the smartassV2 governor is what most of us use. 1612 max with smartassV2 should give you better battery life and better performance than stock.

He linked to a triumph kernel which went to 2016 mhz (which my triumph couldn't do but it could handle 1.9ghz so that's what I'm aiming for. That way is on par with original tegra 2 devices

I overclocked my phone to 1.9GHZ awhile ago just to see if it could and it wasn't stable at all and would reboot within a couple of seconds of booting up the phone. Could just be my phone though.

He is obviously younger, and completely inexperienced in adult-level forums. I have lurked the forums for months, i watched you guys give break after break to that hereisjohnnow guy until he raged and deleted all his stuff. SO!! Give this kid his lashings, make him shape up, then kindly leave him the hell alone and get back to the normal dichotomy of people who want and people who can provide :D

For that matter, it should not detract from coding progress at all to have someone tug on your coattails and want to see your best work. i understand GP reasoning for not wanting to be the person that releases code that VERY LIKELY will be the DIRECT CAUSE of hardware ruination. HOWEVER - its a VERY minute issue, not something a new and enthusiastic person should be ostracized over. the REAL reason he has become so irratating, is that alot of you have spent months or years learning the corrrect way to posture yourself on these forums and how to drop hints and gently guide the work of the programmers with, lets call them subtle requests. then when someone shows up blasting demands and cutting right to the heart of EVERYONES desires (base desire non-reflective of intelligent override: i.e. : more overclock = faster phone, cm9/10 is better than stock, etc)

this section PARTICULARLY peeved me as i had developed a level of respect for the poster, then this hit :

" but because of the disrespectful prodding nature that some people take PERSISTENTLY to urge someone to do something for them "

what do you mean by some people, is there more than one (remember, LONG TIME LURKER HERE) Its pretty clear you are singling someone out, but using a passive aggressive, non-identifier to communicate your disgust. You are one of the biggest spammers of requests ON this forum. go through the threads on the elite section, take away the comical banter and the " i dont have the right hardware so i CANT do it" talk, and what are you left with : post after post of requests. you sir, are a coward, and your articulation and linguistic skills do not save you from yourself. less dmt, more water........

i say bravo kid, keep being yourself.

Let me explain something. I deleted my stuff because in the wrong hands its very dangerous. I was on no post probation and wasnt going to take the chance of allowing someone to brick their phones or tamper with the unknown. I did the right thing yet you say i raged out. No you want the truth then youre about to get it. Iam not going no where anytime soon. Get use to me as i have you or get over it. The choice is yours. And Sorry To The Devs/Mods For A Hard Time But You Know We Ran Into Problems. Just Have To Work On Working Together Cause If We Can Do That Then Really Everyone Benifets In The Long Run But Something I Saw Makes Me Question That Working With Everyone Will Work Out. Ive Done Good By Myself So Ill Stick That Way. I Seen It And Thanks For The Warning. Oh Good News Is My Google Drive Still Works And My Operating System Just Booted For The 2nd Time. Im So Proud.

Tested, retested. 1.6 is the max stable frequently.
The Samsung Galaxy Reverb kernel is a 3.0 kernel. Even though the tables can be used, the rest is a lot harder to be back ported.
Regardless, I know the over clocking from it won't work. He used the acpu_clock7x30 from one of my kernels.

Youre Right. My Reverb Runs 1.8 with the Oc kernel we also just had a kernel and radio update. But If modifications were done its possible to hit 1.8 on the elite. It would take a lot of work. Probably more than this phone might be worth and alot of time

Possible. Not stable. Even according to much-more experienced developers. Therefore, with regard to the Elite, irrelevant. End of story.

End of story? Who says? A dev would be like well it works what do we need to do to get it stable. No offense but just cause you all cant do it doesnt mean theres not someone out who cant. End Of Story.

Well, I am a kernel developer. I am telling you it is not stable. I have tested different voltages for each frequency.

Basically it boils down to the phone not being able to provide enough power to accommodate the higher frequencies.

You are more than welcome to download the source and push the values further.

But this argument ends here.

Im going go about my day, i got stuff to study around and in a few other forums. I just got off probation no need to go back on alright, i hope whoever the best of luck in the overclocking of this phone. The Mod knows more about it than anyone its his kernel. Have a nice day

I see were your coming from. I also like to push it to the limits. But that extra 100-200mhz isn't going to be really noticed, besides some benchmark points. If the devs say it's not stable, I can see were they don't want to see any users smoke their phones.

You are not going to get probation again for having a difference of opinion. Opinions matter. We want to keep the discussion positive though. All i want to do is stop any straight out arguements. It may appear that it was directed towards you, but it was a general PSA to everyone.

Now you have to understand that I do have two jobs here, One as a Moderator, and the second as a developer. Its a balance. But what I was trying to convey was, that I had done research, built many test kernels from the LG original source, also from giantpune's source. All ended in failure. Going up to 1.6, there was no issues. I could get it to work with 1.8, but it would randomly freeze up, or reboot. It works, but its not stable by any means.

I was in the same boat as you when i first came over to the Elite. I have built kernels for other msm8655 phones, up to 1.8ghz without issue. Giantpune said it couldn't be done, I didn't believe him, so i tried it myself, and proved that I was wrong. IMO it can't be done because of hardware, I seen this same result with the ZTE Warp and ZTE Warp Sequent. Those phones could only hit 1.8Ghz because of hardware, whereas the HTC Evo Design and Motorola Triumph could get to 2.0Ghz with the same processor.

So thats where I am coming from.

Feel free to openly discuss it, but please don't take offense when someone has a different opinion. ;)

Its not that. Ive been under so much stress on here i have to get away from time to time. Im only human. Atleast i didnt blow on anyone this time around so atleast my grudge is small compared to others. I Understand were youre comming from. It Prob would take more than this phone can handle. It would take some type of scientist to figure it out. Trying to make combatiblity
