Root Overclocking questions

If you check in settings/about phone it will probably say it's a BobZohme kernel.

Which ROM are you using? Harmonia 2 ,then yes it comes with the gapps? If yes it's a rock solid ROM that shouldn't be giving you any problems.

Make sure you wipe and format everything necessary before the install. If you leave any residual data on the system it will corrupt the new ROM.

The recovery can make a difference as well. If it's a Froyo ROM use Xionia v1.2518.6; if it's a CM-7 IHO ROM you want to use the VM670NH_recovery.img

my Kernel is 2.6.32.9-v1.0 mirage@aurora.

I'm using Harmonia 2.07.

I wiped the cache partition, Dalvik, then formatted /system, /boot, /data, and /cache before flashing.

I'm also currently using the VM670NH_recovery.img. I flashed it initially using Flash Image GUI.

The only thing I can think of is trying one of the wipe zips I saw somewhere else on the site, since they do a triple wipe of the partitions if I remember right.
 
You might have to wipe: wipe data/factory reset as well as the other options.
Try obijon's update_wiper_1.3.zip in the All Things Root Guide.

It looks like you wiped everything needed, but some processors are better and some are worse. You and me must have had are processors manufactured on the same day.
When you have wiped and formatted everything and go to install the ROM, select the wiper_1.3.zip from the root of the sd card first. Let it wipe some more, then install the ROM.

When you download everything, download it to the computer first then transfer the zip's to the sd card. The slower the download speed the easier it is for the download to become corrupt. The PC has a faster download speed.

Download a MD5 sum checker. Check the MD5 sum of the downloaded ROM to the MD5 sum that is given at the Github site for the Harmonia 2.7

I didn't know that Mr. Mirage was building kernels now. I guess I'm going to have to get my hands on one of his kernels and check it out. Cool
 
I used a wipe zip from LeslieAnn which is helpful for making ROM flashing easy and does triple wipes to make sure it is clean, but now even after flashing BACKside (MD5 was confirmed on the SD card) I still get the freeze. Interestingly, the first time I had Maps freeze (480/729, interactiveX, set through the ROM settings) I just had my launcher restart itself. The second time I tried it, the phone quick rebooted to the lockscreen. The third time, the phone froze then did a full reboot. I have a feeling Maps just hates my processor if it's at anything higher than 600 MHz on interactiveX, but I don't know why.

The strangest part of all of this is that now (with the 2.6.32.9-v3.7 bobzhome@ubuntu kernel from BACKside) I actually just found out that I do NOT crash on Maps set with 480/768 if I use the SmartAssV2 governor, which has been the only stable governor for me when overclocking in the past. :confused:
 
No, stock theme. When I flashed, it was the BACKside ROM, then Gapps (20110828 signed) just afterward while still in recovery.
 
I'm on the VM670ZV5 Baseband, so I'm on ZV5. If I understand correctly, the kernel in this has or should soon be updated to support ZV9, but I don't feel like changing, unless you think that might actually solve the problem.
 
Are you still freezing. If everything looks good now, no need to fix it.
As far as the question about the ZV9 update,I was just trying to figure what might have been causing the freeze's. Sometimes a ROM needs to be reboot several times when flashed to tighten it up.

How is everything now?
 
As of now I have not had any issues, but I've been running 480/600 interactiveX. Only under SmartAssV2 do I have any amount of stability if i raise my max clock speed. Who knows, maybe it's just my phone's hardware not liking a specific setting of the specific kernel. For now I think I'll just toggle to 480/600 with Maps and then set higher when I want to play games, etc. Thanks for all the thoughts again Andy, you've been really helpful in making sure I've done everything properly.
 
Hey everyone. Just wanted to give an update. I tried again using the on demand gov and applied these settings:
480 min 729 max. I also saw that enable surface dithering was checked, so I disabled that as it said it would improve performance.

So far its stable! :) I am glad to have just a tiny bit of overclock. I don't think I am going to ever touch it again haha.
 
Nice 129260. Overclocking helps in many areas of device use, especially when using advanced keyboards from the market like ICS keyboard, or (my personal favorite) the HTC_IME keyboard available over at XDA. It is definitely not only for gamers. I'd also recommend that you try Micro CPU Monitor in the Play Store, as it lets you easily see your CPU load right above your status bar in the form of a 1 pixel wide bar. It helps you to see when your smartphone performance is CPU performance-limited and when an overclock (or higher overclock) can improve performance (such as when the usage is at 100% on current settings).

My phone does exactly what yours was doing. Maps and gallery were a no-go no matter what (I don't use gallery anymore). Going to try turning off surface dithering.
 
I noticed that all my apps run just fine with overclock except one: Angry birds. Its the only game that reboots my phone every now and then randomly. Otherwise, every other app runs fine overclocked.
 
I am running my phone now at min-480/max-768 with the interactivex governer set. Does the way i have it overclocked put me at risk of overheating or melting down. I use my phone heavily some days and lightly others. if i'm using it heavily will it make my cpu melt down or overheat.
 
The settings you have are the best for the CM7 ROM's and will allow your battery to actually run cooler.
