Does apex come stock over-clocked and under-volted or is set the same as stock right from verizon. Also can it be adjusted within it self or must you get and app to change adjustments and is it something that even should be done if so what a safe setting.

some earlier versions of Apex came overclocked but this one did not,,,,,you can either use the paid app which is well worth the money there is so much stuff i jrummy oc app its really great,or you can use the script through terminal emulator,,,open terminal emulator and type
su
-overclock
and you will be given some oc number options with some instructions, and just select the setting you want and reboot,,,,now dont set anything to boot until you test out a setting for a while and make sure its stable otherwise if a setting is unstable and you set it at boot then the unstable oc could just keep making your x reboot making it impossible for you to switch oc numbers and it creates a headache,,,so just play around with the settings and find which one works best on your device,,,,also there are settings that are already configured ,,,until you test some out and know what works well i wouldnt go about editing your own just yet

Paid app seems the way to go if I do, the term em way just looks like a good way f**k something up fast.

I just read Thur some of reveiws on the overclocker apps looks like this is something since im new at this to stay away from.

i finally got comfortable with installing ROMs and even themes. i understand that many of the ROMs deal with better overall look, "feel", function of the X.

based on this discussion, i assume that in order to really get the most out of the ROM (right now running apex due to it being the only ROM that will allow exchange email) i need to get a paid app.

with that been said, what app (s) should i get? and, if the app (s) allow more customization of the ROM and its performance, what type of settings should i be looking at in order to maximize battery life?

the app we are discussing is jrummy overclock app ,its in the market its called droid overclock and its a great app with all sorts of goodies in it,that being said though on apex you dont have to get the app just to overclock ,Fab made it possible through some pre installed scripts,,,,these scripts are pretty much your basic setting for oc/uv,,,just open terminal and type
su
-overclock
and you will be presented a list to choose from and as i stated before do not set them on boot until you know they are stable,,,and as far as which setting would be best i wish i could say but every x is different so you just have to try each one out and see what works...
