Overheat lawsuit

If I'm not mistaken, one of your links referred to an iPhone catching fire. So IF this "problem" does exist, it's a smartphone issue not explicitly a HTC issue.

There's always an inherent risk in the daily use of electronic devices of any kind. Unfortunately, there are some individuals who are at greater risk than most.

It doesn't matter if it's an iPHONE or a Damn Moto Razr. The point is a phone like the Tbolt that gets this hot by normal use is a phone that I wouldn't be suprised at all if it went up in flames. Overheating is a problem. A phone that gets hot is more likely to have some freak thing happen than a phone that doesn't get hot. Any phone can burn, nothing is perfect. Making a phone that doesn't overheat for half of it's users should be a problem that is corrected by that company in the factory. It's playing with fire now isn't it. Oh HTC has so many issues right out of the box that so many are forced to accept.

If your phone blows up in your hand it can cause never damage as it will only take a second to happen before you even have time to really do anything about it. A phone getting so hot that it's uncomfortable to hold is much more likely to catch fire or blow up than a phone that doesn't get hot. Overheating sometimes leads to catching fire ya know?
I do believe I mentioned that overheating could be a sign to the possibility of a fire. Yeah, I can see it in my post you quoted.

Sure you phone exploding can cause nerve damage, but we aren't talking about that, unless the aim of this thread has changed again. Your phone could also blow up without heating up noticeably first as well.

I guess I will never understand this. If my phone ever got to the point of uncomfortably due to heat I would absolutely stop using it that moment. For some reason I picture a person trying to talk on it saying oww this thing is too hot to hold. Yeah, I have had phones get pretty warm, but not ever remotely uncomfortable or what I would consider dangerous.

So it's useless to keep an eye on a phone that overheats? that we own? "other phones are doing this not the Thunderbolt" This is true, but the Thunderbolt is known to overheat to the point it shuts itself down on many of the units according to well myself and People who own it.

"Known to overheat"? Aside from your own purported experience, what other widely reported Thunderbolt incidents can you claim? Also, when most modern electronic devices shut down from being "too hot", it's usually a safety mechanism, to prevent the very catastrophe that you're Chicken Little-ing about.

The Tbolt even gets hot while not using it. so better put it outside or pull the battery before bed. if it ever gets to that point :) you are right phones that don't even get hot at all can burst in flames, so a phone that is known to overheat alot you gotta be extra cautious right? Nothing has changed in this thread. I mentioned the phone overheating as the the thread starter, and later in the thread im talking about that overheating becoming something much more like a fire. So how am I changing it up? I'm within topic.

Eh. Relax. We'll all be dead soon enough from the cancers rotting our brains anyway. Exploding cell phone, schmexploding cell phone. Feh.

Good thing HTC have this feature it must be new with the" Thunderbolt" model. It shuts itself down before it starts fire lol. This safety feature gets used alot with this phone I understand. The phone likes to get hot period and has to shut itself down. What if the phone doesn't shut itself down? what if it slips up? Or what if the phone over heating all the time damages the internals and it doesn't shut itself down while getting hot? hmmm is it acceptable that so many are reporting the phone is always getting hot? I owned many phones and rarely did they get this hot. Like I said earlier it must be an HTC thing, things that we normally consider unacceptable become acceptable with this phone. Not acceptable.

I agree. Overall the Tbolt is an ok device, I'm stuck with it so it has to be ok. I do not care for the iPhone, but the thing is reliable overall. I'm saving my pennies for a Samsung Galaxy S 2. Now that's a phone. HTC can't hang with quality on that level.

Answer me one thing if your phone was getting so hot you felt a tingle? Did you ever call verizon and tell them you had a faulty phone? Sure this phone can overheat, catch fire, or explode like with any other phone. Just like the car you drive in can overheat, catch fire, and explode. Just like the tv you watch can overheat, catch fire and explode. Hell even your house can catch fire and explode. any device can have a malfunction.

So if you are so fearful of your cellphone then why do you still use one? We take risks every day we wake up.

Plus overheating Bolts are rare at best. Just like any cellphone on the market.

Firstly I will say thanks for your research, I looked it over.

I will never say that no one has had issues with the TB, but I cannot agree with it being a phone known to over heat a lot. I would have to have some numbers available to see. Maybe I am jaded by my years on the Internet, but there seems to be a disproportionate amount of issues (with everything from video games to cars) than there actually are. I at times have been a voice about something that isn't right with things.

I've come to the realization that I think we have a differing view about it and I will say that I will probably back out from this thread, since you are the OP after all.

uh oh better watch out for your SGS2 phone you want. Heres one thats idle and overheats.

Yet another overheating issue.

Yet another complaint.

So before you talk about how great samsungs G2S phone is. You might want to take a look at their section. There is complaint after complaint about stuff thats wrong with the phone. So keep digging that hole your digging.

Yes called verizon about the issue so they sent me a replacement refurbished thunderbolt that was alot worse. That thing would get hot and shut itself down all the time. I sent them back the replacement phone and told em at least the Thunderbolt I have now I know is new and the original phone I got so I will keep it because it has less issues than the replacement. If you want to know.

This is true anything can happen a car can overheat and catch fire. But if the car isn't getting hot to begin with and it's a newer car very unlikely for it to catch fire. My Tv doesn't overheat I have owned it for about 12 years now, it's never shut itself down from getting to hot either nor has it ever overheated.

My friend use to own a Cutlass Ciera it would get really hot and the engine would shut down. Eventually the engine did catch mild fire and that was the end of her. Older car it happens. The overheating was a early warning sign. Something overheats alot it's likely it could eventually turn into a fire. If you bought a new car and it would overheat you would take it in and get it looked at and fixed under warranty right? Well that makes the most sense. Many have accepted the Thunderbolt overheating and Verizon nor HTC are that quick to replace the phone, they might send you a refurb like they did me with even more problems. Verizon won't send me another phone so yeah.

I don't fear cellphones, never have before. I'm just cautious about this one. The thunderbolt overheating is a rare at best? That is comical. I hear many stories about the Tbolt overheating and getting hot. Probably alot of People who experience it and don't belong to a forum online to share. The Tbolt getting hot is common not rare.

I have owned 2 Tbolts that overheat. I owned a few different Samsung Galaxy phones that never even got hot. So I will go with the what I know. The Galaxy S 2 is the Rolls Royce of Smartphones actually. It had a few bugs, because it's leap and bounds over everything else out. The HTC Evo been out for a long time, which is alot like the Thunderbolt. Samsung aren't perfect, but they don't need a year and a half to get something right and still fail at it. Why do you think Samsung is Apples biggest Threat? Why is Apple uneasy about the Galaxy S 2? Because it's badassed. Nobody worried about HTC's clunkers.

Starting to think that you're the worst Samsung shill ever.

Also, I must be either uber-lucky or something: my Tbolt runs constantly, with the extended battery, but never even feels remotely warm to the touch.

Samsung isn't perfect, they actually don't have very good software compared to HTC. The Galaxy S 2 does have the software to back it up and the best Hardware on the market. The only phone to possibly beat it is the iPhone 5. In the long haul Samsung is on top over everybody. I already know this.

guess what you would lose your lawsuit right there. As you said you will keep the defective one because its new.

How old are you. There are many different ways a car can catch fire. Its not unlikely for a new car to catch fire. You can have an injector seal blow and spray fuel all over your engine.

My friend use to own a Cutlass Ciera it would get really hot and the engine would shut down. Eventually the engine did catch mild fire and that was the end of her. Older car it happens. Verizon wont send you another phone because you said you would keep your original. So thats your fault not theirs.

I don't fear cellphones, never have before. I'm just cautious about this one. The thunderbolt overheating is a rare at best? That is comical. Many people think if a phone gets hot while charging then theres something wrong with the phone. You do realize that the phone gets hot while charging right? My bolt is sitting right next to me idling and is actually cold to the touch.

Can I ask are you rooted and if so are you OC'ed? Are you running cheap aftermarket batteries? Instead of complaining about your phone why not try and find a solution to your problem. If you use an electronic device does it not get hot? After all thats what happens when something uses electricity. The byproduct is heat.

Samsung is knows to be on the bottom when it comes to software fixes. Just look at how long it took them to fix the GPS issue on their phones. like over a year? the first attempt to fix it failed. So dont sit there and say samsung has a top notch product.

Again go take a look at SGS2 section and look at all the complaints people have on the phone. You use the excuse that its becasue its a new phone. Well guess what the Bolt is only like what 3 to 4 months old and was verizons first 4G phone. But HTC/Verizon should of got it right the first time. While samsung gets a well you screwed up but we know you will try and make it better.

First of all the replacement phone kept shutting itself down alot due to overheating. My current new original phone doesn't shut itself down often, but it gets warmer than it should. I don't have a lawsuit nor do I want one so I'm not worried.

Yes a car can catch fire if you put gasoline on it and throw a match on it. you are right it's unlikely for a new car to catch fire. If it overheated alot and had issues right out of the factory it would be more likely to catch fire and would be fixed by the car maker (cough cough) HTC :) again accepting unacceptable product.

My Tbolt got super hot and wasn't on a charger, it happend in an air conditioned home :) I don't use my phone while it's charging. But yes you are right it's common for a phone to get warm while charging. that's not the issue here, it's the phone getting hotter than hell while it's not charging.

No I am not rooted, I don't have any apps downloaded to my phone and the battery I have Says HTC on it, is it a generic battery, well ya know :)

This is true I owned a few Galaxy models. My Tbolt won't even lock on to GPS. The Samsung at least eventually did and when it did it stayed locked. And on my trip I go....

Ok that's all I'm saying about it... It's a great phone, it gets hot and shuts itself down from time to time for no reason, but it's 4G LTE baby :) good phone.

The random reboots are most likely caused by the OTA update and tower interaction. I don't think overheating Is causing your reboots.

My Thunderbolt did get hot once. My second week with It I had it charging while sending a large file to Dropbox. I noticed after a while the LED was flashing and it was very warm. The battery widget said overheat.

I unplugged It and It cooled. It wasn't too hot to hold, and i don't think it would have caught on fire. I was more concerned with damaging the battery.

I never repeated the scene and I haven't had it overheat again. I think there Is a slight possibility of any of these smartphones overheating. Even slighter that it will catch fire, but as shown by the youtube video it is possible. That was actually a good video, I never saw a burned up phone. I would be nervous if I was that kid.

I don't think you can win a lawsuit with a hot phone causing nerve damage. If it catches on fire, maybe. So, I guess that's all you can hope for. I do keep aware of my device temp, and anything that could potentially burn, explode, spark. That Is just common sense.

You haven't been a fan of the phone since your first post here. It's no surprise to me the posts you've had here about it since then.

From your other posts you were an iPhone user imo you should still be an iPhone user. You use flawed logic just because you had a friend who had a car that caught on fire doesn't mean your phone will. Car engines run at much higher temperatures than cell phones. You got a replacement phone then when someone pointed out you accepted the replacement even with it getting hot as well so you possibly fabricated a fact saying your old phone had a reboot issue, funny you didn't post about this as you seem to love complaints.

I hope you are still in the trial period and can got to some Verizon stores to exchange your phone, I don't care if you get another Android phone or an iPhone but you aren't satisfied with your thunderbolt experience and in all honesty your posts fail to enhance my Android forums experience in fact they may degrade the experience, can I sue you for that?

Solution: If hot put down.

I think your case would fail as if somethings getting hot you dont keep it in your hand... Thats like putting your hand on the stove and leaving it there as you turn it on then sue the manufacture.

Flawed design over here. I was made in an HTC lab at birth. Ok No more long post. lets sum it up in a short one. THE TBOLT IS A PIECE OF $HIT...
