Help Overheating issues

This phone gets hot...hotter than most for sure. I have a case on mine but can feel heat radiating out of the power and volume button space where the case is open. Normal usage, the phone is cool...but when gaming...it does get hot. I haven't seen this cause any performance issues yet though. It would be better if it stayed cool I'm sure LOL!

If you didn't have a case on it it wouldn't get so hot. ;)
 
Sometimes Hot seems better than always Broken ;) Naked has some cost to it for drops and scratches.

A lot of heat displaces from the display, so even a screen protector can result in some pent up heat.
 
Does it warrant worry? I often notice it gets very warm when playing a game, warmer than I care to like. however I haven't got an overheating warning sign like to some other people have said about their devices
 
Hard to say if it will be an issue or not. My guess is LG is smart enough not to release a device that cooks itself to death. That said, LG took throttle steps for a reason, so people that root and stop throttling would have a higher chance of issues.
 
The device should be fine, but rooters that try to max out performance might have issues. Battery life will drop like a rock and heat would shut the device down sometimes. If they override that, good luck.
 
My LG G3 gets warm during normal usage and quite hot during heavy usage (as expected). I would appreciate it if someone could download the CPUTemp app and tell me what their cpu temperature is after 5 minutes of recording 4K (UHD) video, just so I can compare my temperature with that of others. When I performed the experiment, all apps were closed except for the camera, and my brightness was set at 65%. If someone could perform this experiment and post their CPU temperature it would be greatly appreciated.

Im getting my lg g3 tomorrow and will let you know how the heat goes, but i gave heard it is a common issues with the device. Not sure if thats a fault, or poor design.
 
Mine is arriving tomorrow as well! :)

I am a heavy user at home and while working so I'll be able to determine if it's a problem pretty quick.

However, LG has implemented throttling in the G3 to prevent over heating. Have to see how well that works.
 
I had mentioned how hot the phone gets while gaming in another post. I have a case on my phone and took it off to realize that the metallic power button gets hotter than the rest of the phone... Heat isn't really a problem from my pov.
 
I always find that the hotter the device is, the faster battery drains. So i guess I'll see if this is an issue tomorrow when i get my device.
 
Yep, plus what matters is your own use. ALL devices run hot in certain sitations. Especially when ambient temperatures are above 90 degrees. Games make all device get hot and ditto for GPS and using data at same time- especially in weaker signal areas.

The G3 gets as hot as the S4, but not as hot as the S3.

I only had the S3 but it got significantly hotter than my G3 does. I would definitely know when my S3 was only getting 3g, my pocket got really warm, and games (like madden and Mass Effect) made it really hot.

I noticed the G3 warmer when playing an hour or so of Madden or dead trigger but not like the s3 I had. I do not have the "you're in 3G only coverage" heat alarm either anymore.

I remember the low signal "3G" warmth! It was due a power sucking demon of a radio on the G3. Anybody that upgraded the S3 to the G3 has a better device in every way possible, besides people preferring easier one hand use.

Better one hand use is ALL the S3 has over the G3. Well, I prefer home buttons too, but LG has created the best set-up to mitigate the navigation bar hogging space.
 
Hey Everyone,

I'm currently on the fence about buying a G3. Although the quad hd display isn't as bright as its 1080p competitors, I'm willing to look past this "con".

My main worry comes in the form of overheating. I've seen all the reviews, but,
I don't game OR run my phone anywhere past ~50-60% brightness.
because of the dim screen, im assuming i might have to crank it to 70%?

My questions are:

1. do you guys experience any warming up or over heating with just regular use at say ~60-70% brightness?
or does the screen need to be on for a certain time and be pushed graphically in order to show any kind of warming up?

2. have any of you experienced any warming up or overheating while watching a video of say ~1 hrs or a movie perhaps?

Any input regarding the matter would be greatly appreciated.

I had bad impressions of the heat issue with this phone when I first got it. Seems the power and volume keys tend to radiate the heat a little bit and always having a case on the phone, I figured the entire phone was hot cause the buttons were.

I played with it after removing the case for several hours and it warms up but actually not as bad as other phones I've used. I keep the brightness anywhere from 60-80% with auto brightness on (I still don't know how to better explain the way LG has the brightness plus auto brightness that work together for a min/max yet regulated level LOL).

I haven't watched any one video longer than probably 20 minutes but I've watched a lot of YouTube videos and never noticed a problem there. Screen maxed out, 3D gaming for an extended period...and I'm sure it would get warm but I've seen nothing to give me cause for concern personally.
 
I am not a gamer or big video watcher, but my G3 barely ever even gets what I'd call warm, forget about hot. I run around 60% brightness.

I have only notice it gets warm when I am using navigation for approx 1 hour. It is not that hot that you can't touch the phone.

Watched a movie for an hour playing from internal storage for about 45 minutes and a tv episode on netflix for 30 minutes.. It was not even warm

I use an app called Lux to adjust the brightness of the phone depending the light it receives.. For example, it will go 100% brightness if it is outside..

I have a Spigen case on the phone btw..
