Help Pairing EvO with Car stereo via Bluetooth

mine actually has track data as an option but it may only be for usb or cd. they show up on screen with track: --- etc

yeah the usb connections are tricky. my hu doesn't recognize my phone via usb either, even when I put it in disk drive mode.

my head unit is 3 or 4 years old and at the time the usb was designed for two things..portable hard drive or iphone usb cable. i tired once to get the phone to hook up usb but never tried again. may take a look at it later. I know when I hook my port hard drive up it displays all folder and track info

The USB stick route is awsome, even displaying album art if available. Have you attempted to use the phone's navigation advice over the BT? It is a pretty sweet feature, since the Evo pauses the audio when the directions are voiced.

oh yeah, I use that on a regular basis. I actually have been using all of that on an older phone prior to the evo. the instinct worked pretty well at it.

even more the reason I am so upset over the Pandora issues I have been having. The instinct, as crappy a phone it was, had no issues streaming Pandora

let me know how it goes. i love it... I rotate 100+ gbs of music pretty regularly but it still gets stale ..Pandora is a great fresh change

I just read your thread on the topic. I only listen for less than an hour at a time, and there are no skips. But on that note, I manually skip songs as soon as I get tired of it.

I'm having problems connecting my EVO to a Pioneer FH-P8000BT. The phone will pair and the the phone audio will connect and work but I can't get the player to recognize the Stereo Audio

Yes I have checked on the pairing to make sure that it is enabled.

Depends on what you are trying to do. All BT HU's can make cell phone calls. But not all BT HU's can stream music. You have to make sure your HU is A2DP capable if you want to stream MP3 or Pandora, etc.

I'm currently using Satellite radio in my '09 Toyota with factory bluetooth NAV/JBL radio. It (Sat radio) is only "ok", and the year is up next month. I have tried Pandora, as an option to renewing Sirrius/XM, and it would probably work for me with a few adjustments. (for one, some kind of dock/holder, but that is really for a different thread!) :p

The bluetooth works fine for phone calls in the car, in, out...perfect. So here's the thing, while the car's bluetooth supports the media streaming needed to use Pandora in the car, and it does work fine when connected, it doesn't automatically pair and connect when I get in the car, or start Pandora. So, it becomes too much trouble to go to settings... (etc) and unpair, then re-pair to get it to cconnect each time I get in the car...
Unless I am doing something wrong.

So, can anyone using Pandora via bluetooth in their car comment? Or even better yet, anyone with a Toyota?

EDIT: (This post, and a few replies) moved to this bluetooth thread, from a Pandora thread)

I've done it fairly often, both with a samsung moment and the htc evo. Occasionally the phone and the car don't want to connect immediately. It seems like there are times when it takes a moment or two for the computer in the car to boot up, during which time the bluetooth is unable to connect. Have you tried waiting a minute or two, before unpairing and re-pairing?

for the most part I have always just turned on bt...and the car and phone pair, then I start pandora.

bt has to be switched on
the two make a connection
turn on pandora
---sometimes I get a bad/choppy connection here, does this on pandora or slacker..changing channels fixes it.

the way mine is set up...if the head unit is on and in my case (and this may be the difference) if the head unit is in bluetooth mode, and bluetooth is on on the phone then pandora auto makes a connection when I turn it on.

After typing this I think the difference is these factory head units. mine is aftermarket. While in any other mode ie fm, dvd, etc...phone audio bluetooth works when a call comes in. In order to listen to music streaming via bluetooth from my phone I have to manually switch the source on the head unit to the bluetooth aux mode. I don't know that the factory head units have this aux option.

Occasionally my head unit and phone won't connect, all I do is go into bluetooth setup on the head unit menu and manually connect.

No, but good point, I will try that today. Thanks! :) I guess I get impatient, wanting the music to start when the car starts. LOL

Yes, I have to manually select BT in my car's factory headunit, which I have done. And for the last few days, I have left the car's audio in this BT mode. It works great after I: (from the phone) unpair, re-pair and then it connects... I will try giving it a minute or two. Last night, while out, I did this procedure, and before I started Pandora, the stock player came on and started playing by itself, thru the headunit. Took me a few minutes to realize it wasn't Pandora that was playing! LOL That was strange. It just played the default songes that came with the EVO, as I have never added any music to it.

Occasionally my head unit and phone won't connect, all I do is go into bluetooth setup on the head unit menu and manually connect.

When I get in the car, the phones BT is already on, the car is set to BT and the cars display has a button to press that says "connect" indicating it wants to connect to the media player's BT. Pressing this connect button, starts the searching, but it never connects, unless i take action on the phone, as mentioned above.

But I will try giving it a few minutes.

Thanks all for the suggestions. :D I will keep trying and let you know how it goes.

You might want to check what version of bluetooth the head unit has, not all manufacturers ship with the latest version for some reason. There should be a way to do a firmware update if that is the case.

So I tried many of these suggestions today, with no success. The head unit presents a button called "connect". When I press that button, it just shows "connecting"... "please connect from the portable media device" The only way I have been able to get it to work is to go several levels down: menu/settings/wireless & networks/Bluetooth settings, then long press the Bluetooth device (my car) and select "disconnect". Then long press again and select connect, and all is good, until I turn off the car. But this it too many steps to do each and every time I get in the car. I have unpaired and totally deleted both devices from the car and the phone. Under "options" in the bluetooth menu (after long pressing the device), both Media and Phone are checked.

Any further ideas? It sure seems to be an EVO issue rather than my head unit.

Actually, it is probably not an Evo issue, unless you have a faulty bluetooth module. It is generally a compatibility issue, the stereo companies and cell phone companies are not working together to make sure your phone will work with every unit out there. Quite the contrary, by the time your phone makes it into the latest update for the head unit the phone is out of date. There are too many hands in the bluetooth pie and they all seem to want to put their own little spin on things which invariably cause issues somewhere.

I can tell you while mine worked perfectly at first, after some of Sprints lovely updates my phone, head unit or both will lock up under certain circumstances requiring a reboot of the head unit and quite often a battery pull on the phone. I try to avoid those situations but the most prevalent is if I get into the truck while in a call, when the bluetooth connects it will start to work normally, then all of a sudden the call drops but both sources say it is still connected, and are unfortunately locked up.

Your best bet is to test another Evo, if it works fine then I would take your phone into Sprint for replacement. If not, look into a firmware upgrade for the head unit.

BigEd, thanks for your additional thoughts on this! I will contact Toyota about possible headunit firmware update, but I am extremely doubtful that:
1) anyone at Toyota would even know what I am talking about.
2) this is even possible to do on a Toyota factory installed unit.

I don't know anyone locally with another EVO to test this functionality, but my wife has a Hero, so I may try pairing hers with my car over the weekend as a test of the media BT capability. My previous phone was also a Hero, and the phone portion of the BT worked fine on my car...never tried the media portion, however.

Good luck JB, hope you can get what you need from Toyota. My Hero never worked right till the firmware update from Kenwood, which was after I got my Evo!

I'm having problems connecting my EVO to a Pioneer FH-P8000BT. The phone will pair and the the phone audio will connect and work but I can't get the player to recognize the Stereo Audio

Yes I have checked on the pairing to make sure that it is enabled.

did you ever figure out the problem. I have the same and cant think of anything else to do

I am also having problems connecting my EVO to a Pioneer DEH-P7000BT. The phone is paired and I get my calls through the BT/car radio speaker. Music from my phone (music folder) plays through my radio using USB. However, I can't get Pandora to play through the car radio speakers through BT audio. Ironically, when I choose bluetooth on the phone, Pandora automatically comes in but again through the phone speakers and not the car speakers.

I have the same kenwood and cell phone any luck with the fix for it? Thanks.

Check your bluetooth firmware version and the Kenwood bluetooth compatibility update page, if it is not the latest then download it and follow the instructions to update.

Hey Everyone...I have been reading through this and thought I would post my resolution...

Issue: Bluetooth connects fine, all working, except audio only comes out of the front speakers (not the subwoofer)
Details: Droid X2 and Kenwood KDC-X994

Connect up the bluetooth
Press the hard "phone button"
Select "BT Settings"
Select "Detailed Settings"
Select "Bluetooth HF/Audio"
Change to "All"

Hope this helps.
