Pandora on the EVO

this is driving me crazy. The HTC Aria the ladyfriend bought Friday plays Pandora with no issues.

I am going to try logging both phones and try and compare the logs and see if I can figure something out. problem with that is I have no idea what I am doing :P

Pandora is amazing on the evo, also the widget for it is the best thing yet! The widget is nice and small and needs only one slot on one of the screen pages

Always hard to zero in on anything specific when a pernicious problem isn't universal.

Like it or not, that data point that it's not always a failure is somehow important.

We just have to find out how to use that info...

I am determined to fix this lol. I have religiously listened to pandora to and from work for 4 years. And its still driving me crazy that this little Aria is doing it fine. Its a cool phone...rooted, overclocked and working with att's hspa its a pretty handy mini me of the evo

I used version 1.3 for a while then the other day it just stopped working for me. It would go to the blue loading screen and just freeze there so I uninstalled and installed the latest version from the market and it seems to work just as well for me. I've been using it for about a week in the truck and it hasn't skipped one song for me that I recall. It's slower to conect on 3g than it is on wifi, but once the song starts playing its good to go. I've done 2 hour long trips and various trips around town and it seems rock solid.

I'm running myn's rls5 and very few mods. No complaints here.

question:

when you all run Pandora.. not on a charger... on full battery.
how long can you listen to it....before battery is down less than 50%?

if that is all did.. on low volume (i am at work).
yesterday.. it was 2 hrs.. and I was below 50%..
is this normal??

i would say mine drops about 10% per hour

I am in the middle of a trial run after making MAJOR changes to my phone last night and running Pandora until it skips today. I will continue to do this for a few days prior to making any suggestions to others...but today so far... 2 hours of running Pandora, battery is dropping about 10% an hour, and there has not been one single skip. I am in about the worst location I can ever be regarding signal..sitting at my desk at work. I started the test on the drive in..no skips...and now sitting here...no skips

Three skips on the trip back from Austin to San Antonio tonight, about 1 hour.

Lat few days I am also noticing more of what I will call "record skips", where the sounds pops out for a fraction of a second but stays on the same song. I had probably 20 in one song tonight and at least 4 in all other songs.

Are you running bluetooth as well? When I stream Pandora over 3g and send the sound to an fm transmitter via bluetooth I use about 24% per hour.

I get about the same as Mr. Ed.

There could be other issues affecting your battery life, how is your phone signal?

the signal is great....

when the phone is in sleep mode... with no pandora... nothing... it is great on battery.. can do 6 hrs at night and only eat less than 5%. sometimes 1%.

when I am .. just reading articles on it.... i an see drop 1% per minute (that is in the middle of it sweet spot; between 80% and 30%)

today... it was at 30%.. put it on charger..and was full charge in 1 hr!
not sure if this is why... but I did wipe the battery data.. last weekend when I upgraded rOM Myn to RLS5. I did let my evo drain to 1% (it even shut itself off.. and charged to full).

today.. i am trying a different kernel version from Netarchy-Toastmod... 4.3.1 cfs to bfs. (got my fingers crossed)

Interesting update....2 hours last night....not one skip. 1.5 hrs this morning no skips. Not a one. This from daily 8 plus skips each trip. Hrmmmmmm

Yeah I am by no means thinking it is fixed. I am leaving the phone in its stck rooted state and logging each day and will compare logs if and when it starts acting up. If it hasnt skipped by Monday or so I will flash a Rom and log more

Wow.....did it ever start messing up. Freezing...skipping....foreclosed. you name it. A few times I looked at the phone and the bars would drop to nothing and come back...3g symbol gone then back. Sometimes it would pause and start back on its own. On 3 occasions it displayed a cannot communicate with Pandora.com message. I will look over the logs tomorrow. I have them if anyone wants to look over them. I even kept notes of time of issue etc

coinciding with the Pandora issue, the phone was warm on back, and has since been slow, laggy, non responsive at times. and the battery has drained significantly since

does this mean anything to you?

Well, I still have yet to hear any skipping since the version update, however today I noticed quite a bit of ditortion. Almost sounces like when you move your fingers across the stings of a guitar vertically. It was pretty annoying (moreso than skipping actually).

You know, I was holding off - but you are going thru a proxy server to get media.

So you never really connect directly. Sprint says it's ok to bypass that. Maybe a good idea to see:

And Mr. Ed, since you're rooted - MSL Reader. ;)

PS - I made a unilateral call and submitted for resolution of your profile/PM - third time's a charm, so be on the lookout for that.

EDIT - I'll save the lookup

I noticed that yesterday and today as well

So just to be clear, your data goes through a proxy by default and this is a way to bipass that? What is the reasoning behind them 'forcing' you into the proxy in the first place?

No idea why - but yes, it's always been that way - forced thru a proxy. I can speculate going back to feature phones, but... you know.

However, something with 3.70 tangled it for Sirius/XM - and it also breaks Shoutcast.

So, I was just thinking - how could forcing things through a proxy improve anything if there's something critical in timing and handshaking...

That thread above had one guy get a senior tech do it for him - I had him check the settings - it's as I posted. Some junior jerk tried telling a newbie that it voided his warranty - which is nonsense, it's the easy MSL code access they sweat - or as I like to tell the lurkers, that's because they don't want you in service menus where you don't below, for there be dragons.

You know. ;)

PS - the whole proxy thing might be how they measure data and don't care with Evos because we do in fact pay that pesky premium - or we have unlimited data - or - I dunno.
