Haven't checked gtalk since flashing this rom. Checked it...it can not sign in without background data...which is off. I use gmail for my mail....always have. Maybe I will run some tests without it. Wow so many variable.

I also ran a speedtest after the foreclose. The network took a dive from 600kbps dl to 50
I think I have another log with a slew of errors. Will check when I get home

Yeah, after I asked that I realized it might be dumb - if they can't play nice with Gmail the app's worthless.

I have another totally dumb question - you're not using Rom Manager and an older clockwork recovery and trusting the checkboxes in the RM to clear dalvik and data are you? As I recall that only works when the rom's script calls for that cleanup, and then, not with the scripting limitations of the older stuff (hence the move to Amon Ra, but even that's no guarantee - _if_ I comprehended correctly what I read).

Good question...but no, no clockwork and no rom mager after serious issues with them a couple of weeks.ago. had some. Skips on my drive home from work. Going to rest my head a bit and then look at the log.

I have also been sending logs to star...the person I have been talking to at pandora

Have not hear back

Here's what I can't figure out:

It only take Pandora like 30 seconds to finish downloading the song. For me, I usually get 90 seconds before a skip. So what's going on at the 90 second mark? Is that when it starts to download the next song?

I just captured a pretty sweet SendLog log. I'll probably send this one to Star over at Pandora. Is there any personal info in the SendLog that I need to filter out before I do?

I started the log at 20:54 this evening, and by 21:00 it had skipped.

I see lots of entries, but they don't make sense to me. An interesting thing...Pandora logs the next 4 songs that you will hear now and then...here's a mere excerpt:

Papa Loves Mambo was the song that it skipped to. I can't recall the song that got skipped. It almost looks like Brown Eyed Girl tried to start downloading as the next song, but failed.

I notice that on your skips - the app is resetting. Or rather - the app is resetting for some reason and nothing is happening that you can perceive, hence, the skipping.

Much like what happens if your DVR gets rebooted during a recording - there's going to be a gap.

I know you prefer the rom you're using - but - if the app is working on the stock rom and other roms (I've not been following the rom details as you probably have in this thread) - then sadly, it's something wrong with your rom.

In the extreme case, a bad physical memory location is possible, but seriously, I'd expect more than just Pandora to bite it in such a case. It's just unlikely, but I can't resist covering all bases - you know how I think.

Or - after some number of resets that the devs couldn't foresee, the app dies ungracefully. Very odd, but anything's possible and not as odd as bad memory.

By the way, the food chain involves quite standard library functions and gralloc - http://www.malideveloper.com/open-source-mali-gpus-android-gralloc-module.php

In other words, it's possible that the app was sharing memory and that went south - or they were using that for some other memory management. If this is local to a particular rom (or group of non-stock roms), the rom dev may be interested.

In any case the beginning of the failure transient seems to start at the app resetting and possibly cascades from there.

Possibly.

Didn't you already say that this happened with the stock rom? With some of the possible settings that others find to work?

And that in such a case, it works with wifi but not 3G?

Sorry - with all of the threads I have to follow anymore, I need some reminding of what's where, unlike before, so thanks in advance for having to repeat yourself.

^no worries. I can't even keep up with what I post let alone all the other posts.

the issue has now been present on all rom's I have flashed. myns, miks, and stock

it is for sure there on 3g in my case, never has been an issue for me on wifi though others have reported it.

today is the first time that it has foreclosed though. all other times it has skipped once -8 times and then just started working again.

Indicates hardware and libraries are fine.

The app is fine, but not robust with respect to comm errors.

That's my belief. Hold their feet to the fire on the resets and see what they say.

Recognize that this questions why the Evo suffers comm errors when the Aria does not, but that's not the issue, that's an anecdote. The data says if you avoid comm errors, the app works.

It's not pausing - it's resetting.

yup...so..why the comm errors. and what is different on the aria... how is it overcoming comm errors?

also..the other errors...
keymap, and java.lang do appear to be coming from pandora, they are showing up in the
log on the aria. the odd thing is ...I don't see anything like this on the aria

01-16 14:53:02.898 I/HTTPStream( 67): 1420 Bytes read, progress 11903/65536

all I get is this

if I kill her internet connection on the aria it ends the current track, then goes to
V/MediaPlayerService( 195): 0
V/MediaPlayerService( 195): 0
V/MediaPlayerService( 195): 0

you get the point. then it just starts playing again once the connection is resumed.

Just opinions... the Aria may not be overcoming comm errors, as much as either that unit isn't suffering it or the app is not responding properly to them on the Evo.

By the way, there's a new user comment in the Market claiming to fix skipping:

Cell network audio quality off under settings.

Does that work or make sense?

Hrm...1.5.3 only has high or low quality settings. There is no option for off.

At this point I an going to wait for a response from Pandora. I am glad to know I am not crazy though. Well not entirely.

Early, I was experiencing the problem bone stock. I did not find out about the proxy servers till after I rooted, but I did get a skip once on wifi (usually don't play it at home, I was testing it out).

interesting as we do not have this option. but under cell network quality is says "with the high quality setting, music will sound better but may contain more skips and hesitation"

i flashed mikfroyo 4.4 last night. signed into google and sync'd my contacts, downloaded pandora and alogcat. unchecked everything under accounts and sync individually, unchecked auto sync and background data just to be sure it is all off. i'm running pandora on low quality with alogcat running in the background. i'll report tonight on what i experience.

^ I don't understand?

By the way, I still can't get pandora to work if I change those settings to 0 even with a delvik/cache wipe :(

Can't seem to find this...

yeah I do not understand that guys comment. the menu options are identical on both of our phones, the aria and the evo. there is no option for off lol.

Drew...the problem was just as bad in low quality settings as it was high on my tests.

that and the quality was ...well, low hahaha.

I have made quite a few changed to my set up and we will be heading out here in an hour or so so I plan on running some more tests. Most likely we will run both phones same channel (different networks though) and see what happens log vs log.

I am still convinced it is one of two things at this point.

the EVO processing the error in some manner that doesn't communicate with Pandora
sprint network error of some sort/loss of data connection. but this would in turn lead to the phone and pandora processing that error thus it really takes me back to the first theory

ok, so today i had no skips what so ever. at least not that i was able to see. i had to leave my work area for a few hours so i couldn't watch or listen but i did just let the phone run.

doubt my test means anything today as it was MLK day and downtown wasn't very busy. so maybe less internet traffic, or maybe that has nothing to do with it.

what log app are you guys using? i am using alogcat and i don't seem to get time stamps or station/song information. also i don't think alogcat records unless its on top of everything, so you're able to view it. or i just don't know how to use the app. but it seemed like it would have to start over after receiving a text message. i don't know.

the log can be found here alogcat.2011-01-17-16-40-03-0800.txt

i'm wondering what this is about - I/global ( 266): Default buffer size used in BufferedReader constructor. It would be better to be explicit if an 8k-char buffer is required.

so tomorrow i will do the same on high quality and see what happens.
