Root Path 2 to Gingerbread

OK so I put the files in their respective places, but I still have the kernel sitting there and don't know what to do with it. I've looked all over for something about a zImage but I've had no luck. I also don't know where to put this as I cannot find a place for it.

The kernel has to be compressed and a ramdisk made of the root file system - that's the "boot.img" file that's on the boot partition. It's a bit more complicated than just sticking a file in a place. Thsi is why if you go into the root directory of the phone and change a file there (not in /system, but anything in the root) it disappears when you reboot - the ramdisk is what you're changing, and the actual backing store for it is on the boot partition.

So the ramdisk and the kernel would be in the boot.img correct? And how would I do this? I'm sorry but I'm not exactly the smartest guy when it comes to these things.

That's correct. Boot.img IS a ramdisk, basically.

There are tools that will rip that apart and replace the kernel, compressing it and all. I don't have them handy as I'm building from source, which has them built-in but not easily separated out.

OK thank you I am attempting to do so in Ubuntu I found a site that showed how to do it. Is it possible to use the ramdisk from the CM7 alpha that you linked to in the other thread? I used the boot.img from that zip to get an idea of what is it. I can replace the kernel with the Triumph kernel you linked to, but can I use the CM7 ramdisk?

Got the ramdisk and kernel, but can't get mkbootimg to work. Put it in the /bin directory and it keeps giving me the "no such file or directory" error. Gonna call it a night.

I would use the Cherry ramdisk, since you're trying to splice into the Cherry ROM.
I used the kernel in the zip and umph kernel ramdisk, made a boot image. The 6 radio files are in there places. Now to make a flashable zip? Im not sure how to make the update script and binary.

Yeah, but what about the binary, and the three files in meta inf. Google result can be very general when asking specific questions.

OK guys heres what i got i have the Huawei ascend x 4g from Cincinnati bell USA Ohio its the same damn phone they have a newer version of the ROM version 3 and i have it extracted only thing is one guy has cm7 running on the triumph but it thinks when i load the ROM its a CDMA phone which is not cool cuz I'm GSM lol but everything seems to work if you would like to talk more directly to me and maybe help me with an update script i could get this newer cherry ROM to y'all phones hit me up @snakebitezz and madman005 on Gtalk

Sorry, would any of you, by any chance, still have this particular software update version? The latest software update, which came after this one, is not as stable. If you guys still have this version at hand, would you mind sharing the file? :)
