Help PC does not recognice my device

Member
Hi,

I have a new htc desire. I just downloaded htc sync and it succesfully installed needed apps and drivers on my PC. Now, when i connect my desire to my PC, htc sync doesn't even see my device. When I plug in my device my PC says it successfully installed the drivers and device is now ready to use. When I go to my computer i see my device as drive D: but whe i open it it says "Please insert disk into removable disk d:".

It also says my desire malfunctioned or something like that and i need to reconnect after 10 seconds but still the problem persist.

I tried this post on this forum but still not working.

Try this:
Phone Setting > Connect to PC > Default connection type > to 'Disk drive' and connect to the PC.
Now the PC should see yor SD card :)

Hi Harry2,

I tried that already. Even tried HTC Sync and charge only. I even tried enabling usb debugging.

Thanks!

More tries :)
- other USB cable
- shorter USB cable
- front USB of PC
- back USB of PC
- not on an external USB hub connected to PC

... run out of suggestions :)

Harry

Well if wanting to get disk drive only working, also uninstall sync (leave drivers) and see if you can mount.

Hi Harry 2,

Ive tried your suggestions
"- other USB cable"
"- shorter USB cable"
I only have 1 usb cable that came with my device. Can I used same type of cable from other devices?

"- front USB of PC"
"- back USB of PC"
I tried it too but to no avail

"- not on an external USB hub connected to PC"
Yes its not on an external USB hub

Hi Danfrance,

i will try your suggestion in uninstalling htc sync and leaving the drivers. If it is successfull can I see the device and its content on "my computer"? I understand that it is formatted in ext3.

Also, I tried installing htc sync to another computer but still windows is not able to detect my device.

Thanks,

You cannot see the phones internal memory. You will only see the SD card which is formatted to FAT32 for data.

When you plug the phone in, in the notification area, set to disk drive mode.

Then it should appear in "My computer" as a drive

Hi Danfrance,

"So which are you trying to do:

Sync?

Use disk drive? "

Actually I want to try both. But this issue I got keeps me from doing that,

Thanks

Oh see. In my first try, Windows actually detected it I was able to open the drive (D: in my case) but was empty, then after a while windows gives me an error message that there was a failure on my driver. It also said that I need to unplug and replug after 10 seconds. I did that then windows no longer sees my device. I even tried reinstalling sync and the drivers. By the way i'm using windows xp, I also tried in windows 7. But still the same.

G'day from OZ, this is my first post here so be kind!! It seem that I have a similar problem to jarves. I to have tried all the options suggested but no luck syncing thus far.

I can get stuff in & out of the phone with Dropbox but it is a bit of a pain.....help please.

Hey,
I have similar problem. Does the USB connection sign show up on your phone? On mine it doesn't and I have tried everything ... it charges only.

Hey,

what have you tried?
what does it say in device manager when the phone is connected

I have similar problem, but my PC can't recognize it either as disk drive or in sync. Have tried installing/uninstalling many many times and even different versions but still nothing. HTC help only says to try different USB's on PC, done that already, still nothing. Using windows XP 32-bit and i have the latest HTC Sync from their homepage.

then its your computer thats borked, something is wrong with the ports
maybe they are not providing enough power through them or something is blocking access to them for that device

How much power it needs? USB port, where i have connected desire, under device manager it shows that it uses (max output) 500mA

How much power it needs? USB port, where i have connected desire, under device manager it shows that it uses (max output) 500mA

so you can see it under device manager?
bloody windows and its autoinstallations
what does it display for the device when its connected?

oh, i forgot to write it down in my first post, anyway, it shows Android Phone->Android Composite ADB Interface

ahh ok so it can see it as adb

interesting that it cant see it as mass storage

there is no exclamation marks in device manager?

you get an option on the status bar for diskdrive or not?

in device manager there should also be DiskDrives>htc desire usb device
and under usb there should be a usb mass storage.

best was to check mass storage is to have the device connected and look at usb, then disconnect it completely from the machine and see if one goes. if it doesnt it means its installed some other driver set for the device and youll need to find what it is by checking each area and connecting/reconnecting the device.

I have seen it happen that windows installs ADB drivers instead of usb mass storage for the diskdrive.
Way to check that is simply to turn off debugging mode. if adb is still there then it means its installed adb drivers instead of mass storage, remove them and reconnect and let it install the mass storage while the device has debugging turned off. turn on debugging and install adb drivers last

There's no exclamation mark. By status bar you mean and icon on Desire or on PC? on desire i get the icon, on PC nothing.

In device manager i don't see DiskDrives>htc desire and if i disconnect it, nothing happens in device manager.

Where should i get these drivers for disk drive? When i just let my PC to search and install them, just says that there was a problem intsalling and so on, basicly not finding drivers. So i manualy located ADB drivers so that my PC at least knows that some android thing is connected but can't do anything with it.
