PC Mag says Droid X HDMI out is a cheat and a tease

Its the same.with the evo hdmi is protected that's howe it is rooting won't change that maybe we can get tv out through the usb like the incredible though

Not true, the EVO does stream youtube, and all other videos and content through HDMI to a TV in HD. Look it up. As part of the recent update you can also change from 720p to 480p output when you are streaming.

I saw the EVO does stream youtube.... Right now I think the X can do it so far from VCast or Blockbuster apps.

One of the reviews that I saw said that it will play anything that shows up in the gallery. On my Droid, the movies on the sd card are in the gallery so I think the X should be able to play mp4/avi vids over hdmi just fine.

Reading over the PC Mag review, I got the same impression. Aside from it not playing the 720p (which Motorola said was a problem with the reviewer's specific phone) the other issues sound like it is a matter of the applications needing to be updated to check for an HDMI output and using it. ie: only the Gallery is currently set up to check/use HDMI.

Yea it will work from clips on the sd card fine. It would be nice to stream from websites...

can u saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay ROOT? ;)

root

Yea, I was thinking the same thing. I really dont need custom ROMs. Just let me have root access, do some under clocking of the cpu when on standby/sleep, other tweaks here n there...and I'm good.

I don't NEED custom ROMs either: I WANT them though.... I really REALLY want them. If people just start laying down and accepting the encrypted boot loader, it won't be long before they decide to really make sure we can't get root. Before you know it we'll right in step with Apple.

Obviously I'm being somewhat facetious about becoming as bad as Apple (... I think/hope), but I wouldn't be even half surprised if Motorola and Verizon came up with a way to make sure we didn't gain root access on their next batch of phones. If you're ok with that, then by all means, keep professing how little you care about the locked boot loader. Personally, I plan on making sure it's well known that I strongly disapprove.

Well to be honest....of the millions of ppl that buy smartphones...us that actually root, jailbreak them is small.

Look at the PS3. The 360 came out before it. The 360 was hacked. The PS3 comes out and is impossible to hack. It just got opened up a lil bit last year or earlier this year. It didnt hurt sales of it....cuz it was a great machine.

Maybe need is the wrong word. I want customs ROMS too. Except some ppl wont get the phone, even if it has excellent reception, good battery life, good call quality....

.....cuz the bootloader is locked....

Those that dont root, which is the majority, the general public....a locked bootloader wont mean jack. They probably wont know what a bootloader is.

I dont really care about ROMs. I run a stock one now. If I didnt have root access, as long as my phone works in a bad reception area, I think thats pretty good.

My phone has to be a good phone, first n foremost.

Agree.

If I can watch anything I put on the phone myself over hdmi, I can live with that.

As long as it's not only for pictures and videos you actually take with the phone, it's fine for me.

You will also be able to watch DRM free movies. videos. etc. unless motorola has put in some kind of software restriction to ONLY allow recorded files taken from the X to play over HDMI. which they could do i suppose.

Wait... since the Droid X has DLNA, it has to be able to play supported-format movies from the X to other devices... or else the DLNA would be severely limited.

yeah but the quality wont be the same. the direct physical connection(720p) should support a higher bitrate than wifi(480p)... though we dont know what the cap for this device actually IS....i doubt 1080p native output. Im pretty sure a 8-12 Mbps 720p file with dolby digital 5.1 can play off the hdmi. Same file may stutter if transmitted through dlna....

Either way This will most likely drain the battery though:D

We aren't as small a percentage as you might think. Pete's Bugless Beast ROM's have been downloaded over 1.5 million times in total with his latest release breaking 100k in under 12 hours. This was for the original Droid, so if the X sells like that then your looking at 25-40% of the user base rooting and ROM'ing.

I have the awstats to back those claims up btw.

No way that many of Droid users are that tech savvy. Ten percent- tops. That said, Moto's lockdown
efforts this time around should keep the number on the way-low, which is lameO, for rooters.

"Beer", it's what's for dinner.
