Help PC will NOT recognize my GN2

Did u try a different usb cable. If the drivers are properly installed it should work just fine. I assume adb doesnt recognize it either? What about odin?

Soon as I connect my phone to the PC a dialogue box comes up which says Auto Play GT-7100 which gives me options as to which files would you like to open.I just cancel

In My Computer it shows up as a Portable Device GT-7100 if I click on it I get a Card & Phone symbols along with how much Gb I have used/left If I then click on one it shows me all my folders that contain my files

My Note is just normal sim free not rooted have done nothing to the phone always works, I too have (Windows 7 64 bit)

As a last resort, install Kies: SAMSUNG KIES

I know it installs other junk, but in addition you will get a working Samsung Mobile Driver. That was an issue I had way back with my setup, and installing Kies fixed it ;)

Did not feel like making a separate topic but speaking of connecting to a PC, is anyone else's connection via the USB very loose? Mine has a tendency to connect and disconnect over and over because it seems the connection is very sensitive. Not a fan of that at all. I remember transferring some files and accidentally nudged the Note 2 and it disconnected, therefore cancelling the transfer.

Please make a separate thread as it is a different issue. I would really like to have this issue resolved and I don't feel like being thread-jacked. (I hope this doesn't sound ass-ish as I do not intend it to)

I'm not quite sure what stauren1203 means by 'recognise' but seeing casarosa's reply made me wonder whether he has checked the Auto Play settings of the errant PC?

A search on 'how to enable Auto Play win 7' came up with such links as :-

How to Configure AutoPlay Settings in Windows 7 - Windows 7

"won't recognize" meaning when I plug my phone into my PC via USB and put the phone into MTP, my phone is not in my windows explorer. Still having this problem, but it has moved on to my home computer(Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OS) as well. What is very weird is that if I put my phone into PTP, my computer recognizes it immediately. I am trying to root my phone so that I can flash the email app hack. I am very experienced in rooting, but I have never had such trouble getting 2 pieces of hardware to communicate.

And you've tried using a different USB cable? I've seen many people mention this same issue, majority resolved with a different USB cable, and some still no luck. Wish the issue could be pinpointed to a specific reason.

I haven't had issues with either my International or Sprint version, but really sorry to hear you're having this problem.

I don't know if it's really an option for you, but you can also try using Solid Explorer, which will allow you to use a FTP link it generates and once inputting the FTP link into Windows File Explorer, it should show both your internal storage and microSD (if applicable). Solid explorer will allow you to transfer folders and files wirelessly. Ever since I discovered this app, I've rarely connected my phone to my PC's w/ exception to backups I perform every month (to the internal storage and music folder).

This was very helpful! However, I need my PC to actually connect to my phone so I can root it and flash the email hack.

I see. Thanks for clarifying that the main reasoning is to root the phone. You went through all the troubleshooting tips I would do, with exception to trying a different USB cable.

I have tried a total of 4 different cables.

My bad. Just re-read your first post and saw the mention of multiple USB ports and cables.

You've done everything that I would try. I don't know if you have insurance, but I personally would have brought my phone in for replacement (were I in your position).

Samsung does cover the device for 1 year, if it's proven to have a defect, so you might want to check directly with them to see if they'll cover you.

Is your pc on a network where it is getting drive mapping from a server? I have seen flash drives not recognized because it retained a previous drive mapping from a different pc. Look under computer management to see if it is recognized there.

My home PC is not connected to a server, however, "Samsung Android Device" is visible in my Device Manager when the phone is plugged in. How would I go about resetting the drive mapping? I have already done a Factory Data Reset once.

You can map it to any drive letter in computer management. Right mouse click on the device and I believe there is an option to assign a drivr letter. Make it M or N or a drive letter your work pc doesn't have and see if that works.

Here is the rundown:

...................
•Multiple other PCs recognize my phone as it is. My laptop at home (Windows 7 64 bit) as well as another PC here at work (Windows 7 32 bit)

•I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Samsung Drivers multiple times with no success

................
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I might try next?

Since you have the Samsung drivers installed can you connect via Kies? It might help confirm that their installation was successful.

I had a lot of problems with drivers when I tried to get Kies to connect to my Note 1 about a year ago. It worked OK on my Win XP PC but gave problems with Win Vista that eventually Samsung support sorted for me.

FIXED!!!!!! I still don't know WHY this happened, but I simply went to "Devices and Printers" and my phone was seen as an "unknown Device." I then did the troubleshoot and then uninstalled the drivers from there. I unplugged my phone and plugged it back in and voila!! Everything is as it was. I'm so excited about this.

Good. Glad you got it to work. This might be a solution for others that run into issues.

That's what I am hoping. This forum has been so helpful to me on more than one occasion I hope I can benefit somehow. I might want to make a note that the troubleshooting didn't actually find a solution for me, but I did it and I thought I'd include every detail of the fix :P
