Root Perm Root Found!!

I have rooted my Shift, now do I need to make a backup, and if so how do I do that??? I saw above that there is a RUU to do that, so should I just do that if my phone locks up, or make one now?? Kinda confused on that part, thanks for the help....

once you are rooted and installed the recovery...ABSOLUTELY make a backup. and also save a copy on your computer too just in case. the RUU is good if you need to bring the phone back to stock and remove root, otherwise you wont need it. if you flash roms and for some reason your phone gets stuck in a boot loop or something like that, you'll be able to go back to a working state with that backup.

Accepting an OTA update will unroot your phone and may close the exploit that allows root.

Usually, once the dev community finds a permanent root exploit they will then post rooted versions of updates. When that happens, myself or somebuddy else will post a link to it - it will typically be pointed to at the XDA wiki for the Shift. At present, that page is in its infancy. In future, it's like to look more like the XDA wiki for the Evo. If you follow the ROM links for the Evo, you'll see what to hopefully expect for the Shift. (Do NOT use Evo ROMs or kernels on your Shift!!!!)

I don't recall (and didn't specifically look for) recovery procedures. Somebuddy else may answer that one.

If in doubt - wait. Once a rooting exploit is found to do it one way, it tends to get refined until bricking is nearly impossible.

So I should not allow OTA update and just wait for new root to overwrite existing root?

I tried to use the "unrevoked" method to root my phone and even installed the hboot driver install. However, when I plugged my device in when instructed by the "unrevoked" program, it stated that my "speedy" device is not supported. Should I just wait for "unrevoked" to update their software for the EVO or try to manually root?

weird. my phone is rooted and everything, but I can't backup the wimax keys... says permission denied

edit: nvm. i got it.

I am rooted but everytime I try to backup my rom it just goes to htc screen and sits there. Am I not giving it enough time to process or do i need to do more to make recovery work on Rom Mng.
