phantom key presses

I wonder if something like an adjustment to touch sensitivity could fix. I know I am not having this issue, but am wondering what would cause it for others. Like thinking how the phone is put together and something internal "tricking" the phone to show an input happened on the menu button. I have no intention of taking my phone apart, but I do know there were some apps you could get to adjust things like that.

I killed the vib on screen tap feed back after my last post here hoping that would solve the problem.. Still get the ghost menu key presses... still a totally stock phone & still when yahoo mess. is open. maybe its the yahoo app?? prob not that simple.... I may call Samsung when I have he time to spare & I'll share here..
 
Man that sucks. I haven't had any issues like that. I had agat 054 kernel, stock rooted; then got clockworkmod and cm10. From stock to cyanogenmod, never ran into these ghost presses.
 
I think TechBravo is onto something!! I have been noticing my menu phantom key press seems to happen consistently when I am 3g with weak signal. Strangely enough, the phone has been switching over to a stronger roam signal (no data) and the phantom press stops. I haven't noticed if 4g weak signal does the same thing, but now I'm going to pay attention.
 
Actually its not a 3g problem or weak signal it happens to mine and im unrooted and stock fl22 i updated when i gotten the phone.
My phantom key is the menu key button and what happens is i come to beileve that the lights that show the buttons some how make the button fooled into thinking its being pressed i have them turned off and i havent had any button pressed from a ghost finger :O hope this helps out O:-)

Thanks. My SGSII is currently out for a factory warranty repair in Plano, TX. If that doesnt fix it, I will def try this when it gets back.

Can some others chime in to see if this solution works for them?

If this fixes my ghost menu & saves me some sanity I will be forever indebt to you ;) Going to turn them off now & cross my fingers... Crap, its still popping up here just a few min's after I turned off the lights....... :(

there's an app out there that allows you to reroute keys, some users change the menu key into some odd useless camera function as I recall that pretty much disables its use. then you download another app that puts the keys onto the screen of your device.. it's a fix but not really one I'm interested in, I just want a normal phone like everyone else :-D
 
Yeah I agree. Maybe you can send it in to Samsung under warranty like I did. Have you had it for less than a year? They pay for the postage, you supply the packing box and phone. They didnt even ask for receipts or anything like that. It was pretty painless. They even have an online repair status tracker. Mine was already fixed and is currently going through quality control...
 
yep, its 3 months old ;) just hate the thought of giving up my phone for however long Samsung may take ( I know suck it up & do it :p ) looks like the only real alternative left..
 
If it makes you feel better, there is no deductible, its free 2 day air via UPS there and back, and it only took them two days to fix it once they received it. There is a online status checker that documents every little step of the repair process and they provide UPS tracking numbers.

Make sure you pack it extremely well as they document every single scratch in the pre-repair inspection and they document and rate how well you packaged it for shipping.

mine is already on the way back. they said they fixed it by replacing the LCD screen. I will update as soon as I get it back...

How exactly do you disable haptic feedback?? I am just using Samsung keypad. This menu popping up and down has driven me CRAZY!!! I have rooted the phone twice now and am running the AGAT kernal. I am lost at this point.
 
My phone has suddenly developed this issue. The menu button randomly fires for no reason at all. Annoying. Does anyone know if I can take it back to the Boost store for a replacement, or will I have to send it to Samsung?
 
I find I have the most problem with the phantom key (pyscho menu/search button) when my signal is the lowest. And this started when I did the OS upgrade from Gingerbread to ICS/JB. Its annoying but easily lived with. I have disabled my menu bar lights to see if that helps, since turning off my hepatic feedback didn't seem to help.

It is a known hardware issue, and has nothing to do with the ROM on the device. Some phones were manufactured with improper shielding, and in low signal areas, the boosted output from the phone's transmitter, causes the false input. By the way, did you have a sprint phone that you brought over to Boost? Boost S2 phones never came with Gingerbread.
