Phone being slow/ too much RAM usage?

I have a galaxy S2, I do not want to put my question in the SGS2 forum because its a general question.
I use the "clean master app" which shows how much ram the phone is using along with the abilities to speed up ram by clearing applications.
My question is how can I keep apps that I dont use to stay off and not use any percentage of my RAM. It bugs me when apps I dont use take it up and slow my phone down.

Apps update on there own. Other apps or settings can cause them to run in the background. I am not aware of a way to do so unless you disable apps or turn off specific settings.

Hey chargersrool,

Contrary to what you may believe, it's normal for the phone to use has much RAM as possible. It is much faster to launch an app from RAM than it is too launch from internal storage. If RAM is full and another app needs more, an app your not using is removed from RAM to free up space. By clearing applications, you cause them to completely reload next time they are launched. Which will cause a slow down.

To disable an app, go to settings -> applications -> App info and select disable if it's available. There are other alternatives such as using apps like Titanium Back Up to freeze an app.

Settings, apps, find the app and see if it has a "disable" button.
Dont go crazy though, only disable something if you know what it does

As others have mentioned, it's normal for Android to keep things in memory. Nothing wrong with that, and it doesn't necessarily slow down your phone.

The S2 is getting a bit long in the tooth. When you replace it I would suggest you look for a phone with at least 2GB of ram. It will still keep a lot of stuff in memory, even more in fact. But there will be less shuffling of programs, which has advantages.

I have a clean master app that I only use for clearing cache. The app is always bugging me about my Ram percentage being over 90% however I understand that android does a much better job at Ram management than I can. I would also take caution in disabling apps. This can cause other issues like app shutdowns (mostly i find this with system apps). If its an app you need but don't want using memory you'll have to go and force stop it. However keep in mind that the more an app gets called for use the more android will make sure its in memory.

Instead of Clean Master I recommend App Cache Cleaner. It has a simple one touch widget to clear cache when needed
