i installed a new ROM just now Viper 3.1.4

i made sure to wipe before flashing but after installation complete and i reboot system phone boots straight to bootloader what is the issue?

Also the forst time i rebooted viper came up and stuff but then it still booted to bootloader:confused:

EDIT: Also my backup is booting me into bootloader also so idk

Hey, :)

Are you doing it just like ocn said here,

"ok so go here: {List} Utilities/Roms/Kernels and go to the shipped roms section then find the stock rooted roms of your choice.

1. download the file
2. move it to the sd card(if you have recovery you can use the mount usb option)
3. wipe dalvik cache, cache, data, system
4. select install .zip on the main menu of twrp
5. flash the file. ..."

One other thing I can think of, doesn't Viper install in aroma and offer to wipe for you too? If you have already wiped, as per above, skip the offer to wipe in aroma.

Preferably though, skip the wipe in ocn's instructions and just use the wipe in aroma.

I use a superwipe, not to confuse things, but i found that one wipe or the other is good, but not both. :o

Hope this helps.

You should be able to retrace your steps through the other thread, minus re installing the recovery, to at least get you back up and running if this doesn't help.

let us know, someone will be here! :)

ok so with viper you need to wipe with the aroma installer. it is the program that gets launched after flashing the rom. what did you wipe? also when you made the nandroid backup, do you remember what you selected to backup?

i think i selected everything but internal sd card, also i just tried Venom IMG Flasher now when i turn the device the htc logo comes up then viper lte then it just keeps looping is this a boot loop or should i wait?

I know that's right, lol... :p

You would like S-off, the guys in here will help with that too. Granite is an expert! :D
^ I don't know about all this, but I sure can help. :o

You woes above sound like it didn't wipe properly before a flash. This WILL cause bootlooping and just cause the phone to bork out. You've got the idea though, "Don't Panic!!". :)

Maybe "DON'T PANIC" should be printed in large friendly letters at the top of the rooting/s-off guides. Lol

You should definitely go s-off. If you run into any problems that Granite can't solve, there are a lot of smart people here to help. If I was able to get s-off (not sure if I had help or not) anybody can do it.

In just 2 days i have learned so much from this forum, i'm much more comfortable doing things on my phone, now that i know how to back things up now just to get s-off!

Now all i think is "dont panic" theres a good chance it isnt bricked lol i thought i was done for the other day

Not to mention that it is so much fun. Just wait until you get to the point when you are comfortable enough to be a guinea pig for a "first to s-off" method. Maybe the next evo eh? What a rush.:p

The roms that have a kernel installer will need to install twice. After the first install, you will reboot to bootlader or recovery screen. If you're at bootloader, scroll down and choose recovery. From there you must install the same rom a second time. This may be when the kernel is flashed.

I could be wrong but this us exactly what happened 2 weeks ago when I was rooting my replacement Evo. I just did a quick unlock and flashed meanbean. All of whic was from the front seat of my work truck and took about 10 minutes :)

I cant speak for viper though. I used it once and it looks like it is pretty well put together. I would imagine it has a kernel installer as well.

is there a different way to get s-off instead of dirtyracun, i couldnt get unbuntu and i would prefer just to do it on windows

Unfortunately, you'll need to have Ubuntu running to get DirtyRacun and BabyRacun to run.

Can I ask what the issue is with getting Ubuntu loaded?

Did you try to get the LiveCD burned?

You can also do a LiveUSB drive for Ubuntu if you can't get a LiveCD burned.

There is another method for S-off called Facepalm, but it's hit or miss, so your success rate can't be guaranteed. :o

I'd just install Ubuntu on your hard drive using an exe file on the Ubuntu site. It's good to have around. It takes up such little space on the hard drive. It's easier to just skip the whole live CD or USB. Everything goes easier in Ubuntu. No drivers necessary in Ubuntu (which saves you a big pain in the butt a lot). It took a bit of Google-ing to learn how to use it, but it's not too tough.

Look man, I'm just a regular dude. I have no special computer powers. I dont know what the heck ubuntu or linux are. My command experience started and stopped back in the 80's while I was in elementary school playing with logo on the old apple IIe computers, lol.

I was able to figure out the s-off stuff. If I can do it, ANYONE can do it. I dont even use my Evo LTE anymore and I still got s-off last night on my replacement Evo LTE. I even had to downgrade the firmware. Read the instruction a few times before attempting. You will always have a good core of dudes here to fall back on.

Whatcha waitin' for?

Where can I find that thread on downgrading at, Mike? I just posted a thread about this a bit ago, since I'm getting that version 3.16.651.3 is somewhat against WiFi Tether, which is the main reason I rooted! haha It's been working fine for me for the past month or so, and just when I thought all was fine, here it comes tonight! Usually I'd just do a restore from twrp, but when I tried it this time it failed, and I accidentally wiped my OS by mistake. Finally found a "stock rooted rom (v 3.16.651.3) and it's been at the splash screen for about a half hour now. I'm guessing there's some sort of installer that's possibly missing from the folder since it's not doing anything, but I'm able to get back into bootloader whenever I do a hard reset. Any help, guys?

well here is a guide about firmware:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-lte-all-things-root/689274-guide-evo-4g-lte-firmware-guide.html and it is stickied as well.

now about your bootloop. what did you wipe before flashing the rom? i would reboot the phone back into recovery and wipe everything but the sd card and re-flash the rom.

if that still does not work then it might be a bad download. re-download the rom and wipe everything and try flashing it again.
