Phone doesn't like my new SD Card!

Hi all,

Ok, I have been using an 8gb Class 2 Sandisk card with the Reflex S v2.6.1 rom, worked fine but I fancied a bit more space and speed. So, after seeing good reviews on xda I bought a 16gb Class 10 Joyflash card. This is where the problems start...

For one, it seems no faster than the class 2, when in the phone - SD Tools reports around 5.5-5.8 mb/sec for it, which is not much ahead of the results of the class 2. It also doesn't feel, well, "snappy" like I expected it to. When browsing pics in the gallery app(s) or via Quickpic, it sometimes lags just a little. (Readahead is set to 2048, I've had a play with those settings too to no avail)

Secondly, it no longer plays nice when I connect it to the pc. It shows up in My Computer fine (with or without debugging enabled), I can open and explore the contents, but as soon as I drag and drop anything across everything just hangs. I waited a while before, and was eventually greeted with an error message "The semaphore timeout period has expired". Weird. I ran a nandroid backup, restored the rom and sd-ext contents to the 8gb card, and it's fine - connects, transfers files perfectly.

I've tested the card under Windows, in a built-in card reader and a plug in jobbie with a couple of different adapters too. Crystal DiskMark 3 reported Seq. Read of 18.99mb/sec, and Seq. Write of 14.6mb/sec. I tried H2testw with a 500mb file, and it came back with a figure of 8.something mb/sec, I'm now running a full test on it, it's written around 10gb so far and is showing around 8.53 M/bytes.

I formatted it under gparted (fat32 with a 1gb ext3 partition after), I've reformatted it, I've also re-re-formatted it and still the above problems. Does anyone have any ideas at all why this card just doesn't want to work properly for me? Any info, thoughts, gratefully received.

(for the tl;dr brigade - my card's playing funny in android but not windows - wtf? :D)

ps Sorry for the information overload, I just wanted to be as thorough as possible

Sounds like you bought a cheap low quality card to be honest.

A decent class 10 16gb micro SD will set you back about

Class 6 is the best the desire can handle. I have teh Kingston linked above though because its future proof.

ive not really heard of joyfish
i would personally stick to solid brands like sandisk, kingston, samsung, pny, lexmark, transcend
