phone Freezing on AOSP 2.2

My phone is freezing randomly...mostly when screen off, then to lock screen. Also happens when rebooting (sometimes). In the past week it has happened 4-5 times daily! I'm getting frustrated to the point where I want to unroot back to stock, if this keeps happening.
I am running AOSP 2.2 no CPU tuner (used to have it thought it was the cause)
Any help would help. Thanks

Nandroid, then clear Cache and Davlik if it still persist, then reflash with 9.2.2 after a Cache wipe and a Davlik wipe

As of now wipe cahce and davlik worked. I'm on my CR48 and do not have my other computer to transfer rom over to SD to reflash. Thanks for the fast response! :)

so it worked for about an hour then did it again. I reflashed worked for a little while then froze again. So just got frustrated and unrooted. I only have until May 1 until I can upgrade so I'll deal with an unrooted phone until then, then maybe I'll play around with rooting it to maybe GB. Thanks though for trying to help me.

I would simply either do a full wipe and reflash, or flash GB, it is great

Unrooted??? Good luck May 1st:D

Yeah I unrooted...:( to bad too I loved being able to control my phone and get rid of bloatware.
But guess what happened this morning? My alarm started to go off and when I went to hit snooze, then phone was frozen again! Had to pull battery out...that's one way of getting me out of bed for work.
This is my second Hero, the first one got stuck on the bootscreen (non-rooted) returned it to Sprint, they gave me a refurbished one  in December. I then rooted this device immediately. So I am guessing it is a hardware problem nothing to do with software...so if it is ROOT here I come once again!

Yes I would root again, this time when you are ready we will walk you through the process to make sure you eliminate some of the issues you are having, let us know when your ready!! ;)

Ok lets root again...it keeps freezing now every time screen lock comes on. It is making me furious! last time I used z4root, but I can take baby steps (whatever will get this fixed!) and maybe lets give GB a try.
Oh and sometimes when touching screen the notification bar drops down randomly...not as frustrating as pulling battery/restarting everytime I want to touch the phone...yeah what if I was in a wreck (hypothetically speaking just trying to make a point) , my car upside down and had to call 911...oh wait let me pull the battery out.

Z4Root is fine, simply download on your SD card and install on your phone, and follow the full root process, let it do it's thing, if after 5 minutes it still is stuck, either hit the home button to reboot, or take the battery out and reboot, let us know when your done

OK so now boot into recovery with the phone off and create a Nandroid backup, then once you are done let me know what Rom you want to flash

Just to let you know...ever since I plugged in the phone to PC and have not shut screen off, it has not froze...

Ok well no offense but I didn't want to keep bothering you, so I looked up the post you helped out with yesterday...Godfather13 and followed word for word (seeing that you don't need to repeat yourself) and installed AOSP GB updated 3/3/11...so far so good, looks sweet...only time will tell. Thanks for your help and bringing back my sanity so far. :P

NP and if you need anything else let us know, fingers crossed, LOL

I also just posted a new release for today

awsome will try it!

But guess what happened again? Yup...must be hardware dying. oh well I'll flash the new one and play with it and i guess i'll deal with it until may. :)

If it is and you are still under warranty tell them to replace it again, I had them replace mine 3 times, as you well know they are refurbished so that says it all

Well talked to sprint said I did not have the warranty and I'd have to pay full price. So I decided to move over to my wife's old Samsung Moment. I already miss my Hero...well lets see if I can root this Moment. :) Thank you so much Don you were a big help!

I have seen decently priced used Sprint HTC Hero handsets on eBay in the $80.00 range. Just be sure to make sure the seller is reputable. :)

I would also ask for the ESN from the seller prior to buying and verify with Sprint that it is in good standing. I would much rather have a Sprint HTC Hero than a Sprint Samsung Moment. ;)

Yeah id much rather have the hero too but also I'm due for an upgrade first of May, and I have my eyes on the EVO (since I'll have to pay the premium data plan anyway for 3G) so I guess i'll just deal with the super slow app limiting Moment.

Ah, I see. I am eligible for an upgrade right now, but I will probably lose it come April 1st because I do not meet the dollar amount criteria for a Sprint Premier Gold plan.

I was hoping to see some new handsets from Sprint soon and I know CTIA will show them, but I fear they will not be out before April 1st shows up. Looks like the April Fools' Day joke is on me until December when I would be eligible again.

Good luck and keep us posted
