Help Phone heats excedengly!

I just bought an LG Optimus V. I love it and the reviews were great. I am wondering if I got a lemon. It heats up too much while downloading apps, charging and other... hmm... Please help!

Mine heats υρ qυickly if I υse it ωhile it is charging. I υse Battery Monitor 3 that shoωs the battery temρ οn the notification bar. I stoρ υsing my ρhoηe when the temρ reaches oνer 100

I think you both may have bad batteries. I have only had mine get hot when it is charging and slides down the arm of the couch and gets stuck inside the couch or this past weekend, I had it in my dash mount holder running Dashboard assistant (tracks MPH, average and fastest, bearing, trip time) while charging.

Other than that, even being inside an Otterbox all the time, I don't have a heat problem.

Oh darn, really? I noticed mine gets hot quickly especially if I'm ωatching νideos while it is charging. Right noω I'νe been on the internet ωhile my ρhone is charging for almost 2 hrs, and the temρ hasn't reach 100

I'm going to agree with MacFett on the possibility of a bad battery. Mine never gets hot unless an app gets hung up or something. This is also when I do most of my tinkering (when the phone is charging).

Right now mine's charging and Battery Monitor 3 says the temp is 23c.

Thank you all for your responses. Yeah I just came home and as soon as I took the phone of the charger and turned the phone on, 2 things happened, the phone was definitely a lot cooler but still warm (even tho the phone was turned off) and, the battery meter went right away to half charged, even tho when the phone was off it indicated the battery was fully charged....

I even worried while away thinking that, if I left the phone charging and on, this might possibly have caused a fire... Thank God I turned it off... I guess it is a back-to-the-store trip tomorrow and checking things out. I want the same phone tho. I like it a lot.

Thanks again.

Mine gets warm as well. Usually when I leave it on the charger next to my computer. I figured it was just a natural thing. I really hope I dont have a bad battery :( I use Juice Defender right now to monitor my apps and save my battery. Does a pretty good job so far I think.

My phone has been charging all night (battery up, screen down) and it is 82.4f. My living room is currently 81f (our ac died). Tomorrow I'll try charging it in my bedroom (it is kept around 72 in there).

Try dowloading a battery temp monitor and really seeing what that battery temp is. If it doesn't get above 40c when charging+watching video then your OK. Anything over 45c(in an airconditioned enviroment) and you might want to see if VM will send you another one

That's exactly what I did, got a new phone. It resolved most issues with the heat. I can say this, most of the heat problems occurred when the phone was struggling to maintain the 3G signal, or find one when it was lost, for example; during my car ride home from work.

I don't use any apps like those mentioned here for the replacement phone, and honestly, I haven't really had the heat problem since the replacement.

Ok. So I have a new Opnimus V phone now. Temperature while charging seemed a bit warm if the phne was on, it cooled off while charging all night. I let the battery drain all the way till the phone died and then recharged it as per CSR recommendations. Today I benn using the phone quite a bit and the highest tepmerature while downloading lots of apps was in the mid 8os... Right now.. On idle status the phone is at 30 degrees centigrade... Not bad I guess...

Thank you all for the apps tips and the responses...:)

Not sure who told you to fully drain the batter, but you never want to fully drain a lithium ion battery.

There are several threads in the OV forum with replies from a member with a good deal of knowledge on the subject.

The only time my phone gets warm is when it's searching for wif for a good bit of timei. I have wifi at home and at work so it's not unusual for me to leave it on routinely. But if I spend the evening away from either place the phone starts to get warm. I turn off the wifi and it's back to normal temperature pretty quickly. I do think it wise to have returned the phone.

Well it happened only once really. I charged it fully last night and today I still have a little less than half battery juice. Temperature is at 33 centigrades after downloading a couple of apps. I did lots of downloading and installing today and I don't think the battery reached 50 degrees centigrades... That is probably a bit warm but incredibly cooler than the one I had before... I am a :phappy:D camper!

Interesting you mentioned. With the first phone I had I thought I was going to be able to hook up with my home wifi connection but the phone, after latching and logging in, would not let me go in... But this is probably fuel for another thread..
Thanks to all of yas again! ;)

Agreed! Here's one of `em. I bookmark the thread because there's valuable info.

Good article! Got anymore? Not trying to give you a hard time, just looking for add'l verification. Judging by the single BU link, charging often does seem the way to go. Only minus (if one would consider it such...ymmv) is having to constantly plug in. My lifestyle is more "on-the-go" and frequent connection to an outlet is not a viable option.

Table 2 was interesting. If you take it at face value, and assume a once-per-day charge schedule, discharging to 50% every time before recharging yields a battery life of more than 4 years. Does anyone even keep the same phone for that long? Even doing a 100% discharge every time, you still get almost 1.5 yrs on a battery.

Im new to these smartphones and thought I would have to replace the batteries every year or so anyway.

Anyway, thanks for the opinion backed up by some decent science rather than a mere opinion. Cheers!:)

Уoυ're ωεlcome, dudε! Уour ρhoηε is branδ neω so draining it once shouldn't effect the Ьattery. After reading that threaδ I alωαys try to charge my battery before it goes doωn beloω 50%. Right noω Ι'νε been using my ρhoηε on the internεt for oνer 1hr anδ the tεmρ is at 23

Syav, how are you getting Greek characters in your posts?

You can check the temp of your battery when you think it is hot. Dial #*#*4636*#*# and when the menu pops up, click "battery information."

I sωitch bacκ αnd forth betωεεη Εηglish, Greeκ, & Russiaη αlρhabεts on my Smart Kеуboarδ.

Eδit: It's a bit of a hassle at first, bυt I liкε it because I thinκ it looκs kinda fancy :)

Or you can use a battery monitor such as battery life.

Yeah-- But if you don't have one on your phone and you are afraid the battery is too hot, you can check and not guess :). I got worried once and checked, and it turned out my hands were just cold--the battery wasn't really that hot.

Syav, it does look neat. My brain just short-circuited for a second wondering, though:p

Some folks that live in a poor service area have also stated that they will mostly use wi-fi, and once they start to travel, they actually disable the mobile data (3G) radio so that it is not left constantly searching for a signal (heating up the phone). I do most of my travel in the VM service regions, but I have occasionally disabled the 3G radio when I have found the phone struggling for service, keeping in mind that the voice service is still available.
