Help Phone keeps rebooting.

I can confirm the same. Continuous, daily (almost hourly reboots). Would not be so bad if it weren't for the annoying Virgin Mobile music.

Has anyone who has returned a phone found that the newer model doesn't reboot as often -- or are they getting the same frequent reboots?

I'll let you know in the next day or so, how this NEW phone is working. My first one was rebooting hourly... sometimes locking up to the point of needing a battery pull. I have been using this new one since yesterday, without any problems whatsoever. Today will be the first day out of the house with the new one. Radio Shack had no issues exchanging. I just told them that I talked to VM support, did Factory Resets, etc... and VM told me to exchange it.

Mine is only rebooting when it's fluctuating on data. From 4G to 3G and 3G to 1x.
It's a bit frustrating but I positively would hate doing a return.

Time to possibly get my hands dirty and start modding.

I have not yet had a reboot on my second phone. I have had it less than 18hrs so I don't consider myself out of the woods yet.
By this time my first phone had gone into a 2min reboot sequence, more than once.

If it's that bad, just exchange it. Maybe you can improve it with a rom but you shouldn't have to.

I just have this issue with returning things. If I can fix a minor software problem myself, I'll do it.
Like the screen flashing on the MT during unlock. MIUI fixed that for me.

For me, if I return it, It's a gamble on if I'll get a better or worse one. At least I've got the quirks on this one figured out already.

Besides, I fought hard to get this phone. I'll give it my all before I throw in the towel. LOL

The power button being extremely sensitive, and to a lesser extent a green tint on photos, are the only sticking points that prevent me from running out and getting the phone immediately. But I also hear they don't affect all copies of the phone and are cases of being lemons (partially anyhow) more than fundamental and universal flaws of this particular model.

Should I get the phone now and just keep exchanging it until they get it right, or should I wait another couple of weeks for the Virgin-branded ones if it means a scootch more QA and a legitimate fix or two of common complaints right out of the box?

Seems like exchanging my phone has done the trick. This second phone is perfectly smooth. Power button has a nice click to it... and ABSOLUTELY no reboots after 1 day of use. All my DATA/PHONE/SMS is working properly. I'd highly recommend doing an exchange if your phone is not 100% stable. Why should we spend 300 bones on a quirky device? I've got a good feeling that this one is a keeper now. If I go another day without any reboots, I will be extremely pleased. For as many reboots/lockups I had on the last one, I was really re-thinking my decision to purchase this phone in the first place.

Was your first EVO V 4G branded with Sprint's logo? And was your replacement branded with Virgin?

Are there any differences with the phone (hardware or software rev)??? I'm having the reboot issue too. I was expecting it to be an app I installed and hoping to get an update soon to fix things. I keep sending the error notices to HTC... Haven't put it back to factory yet. Doesn't sound like that has helped anyone. I can't imagine that this is an app problem as so many people are experiencing the same thing with I'm sure different app setups.
This does suck. I had the Optimus V and it was solid as a rock.

I really am leaning towards HARDWARE issue... I noticed that my first phone, the one that I returned, had a bit of a lag when waking up from standby. I originally installed all my normal apps on the phone... My phone was having reboot issues within an hour or two. I first tried a factory reset... reboot issues occurred without ANY 3rd party apps. Then I unlocked/rooted and installed the JMZ rom from the rooting thread, thinking that maybe the original software flash [from factory] on the phone was somehow borked. Same reboot issues occurred. My reboot issues continued to get worse to the point of lockups requiring a battery pull.

I was honestly thinking it could have been a defective battery problem. I had actually ordered 2 aftermarket batteries/charger... [which arrived today]. I was gonna try a different battery before I returned it, but my local store only had one in stock, so I exchanged it yesterday.

I'm really glad that I went ahead and returned it. This new handset doesn't seem to have the bouncy signal strength that the last one did either. So far no reboots, so I am a happy camper. BUT only time will tell.

I do have ALL of the EXACT same apps installed on this phone, as I did on the first one.

the software on this phone says...

Software # : 1.13.652.2 710RD
KERNEL : 3.0.16-g4211684
baseband : 1.06.00.0426
build : 1.13.652.2 CL372137
PRI : 1.53_144
PRL : 61008

Not sure the specifics on the phone that I returned. If anybody having reboot issues wants to compare... chime on in.

Both are Sprint Branded.

My experience mirrors this. One bad phone. The second perfect after 24hrs. Both Sprint labeled.

There may have been ota fixes, but factory reset did not help my bad phone, when it got into a reboot cycle.

I also suspected the battery in my bad phone. But I did get my 3500 extended battery into the phone and still had issues. Although the new battery back did fit better around the power button.

Mine reboots even with all radios turned off. No wifi, 3g, or 4g. I've done the recovery factory reset, I've also done the reset through the settings, storage menu. I haven't called Virgin yet, because everything initially worked through the online activation. I made sure to do swap from 25 to $35 plan first. Waited a few hours. Turned off my old Optimus completely, and everything worked. Seems as if my issue is not network related.

Glad you got a good one. My situation is the same as yours except I haven't exchanged mine yet. Mabey I should wait for the virgin branded ones to come out. I don't want to exchange mine and get another buggy one.

Okay. I give in. After 5-6 reboots yesterday, It's time for me to go ahead and admit defeat.

I'm exchanging it...

Wish me luck.

I understand your abhorrence to exchange it, but at some point you have to assume that you got a lemon.

My second phone works great, I hope yours does too.

I've got my new one. So far so good...

If it works as good as my new one... you'll be glad that you exchanged it! Mine has not rebooted AT ALL, I activated on Sun afternoon. So glad that I decided to swap it out. :)

You gotta figure, we must have the WORST luck possible after all the pre-order crap that we had to deal with, then getting a bum phone!

I know right? Like Radio Shack was getting their jollies off on our suffering. LOL

I swear you and I have so much in common here...

I've done the factory reset on mine and the freezing has slowed down a lot. I'm waiting on installing many apps to ensure some stability... It has frozen 3 times since then but normally, it would have frozen much more. I fear getting the same result from an exchanged phone and would like either an update from HTC or VM or a new batch of phones in Radio Shack. I sure miss the stability of my Optimus...

Lol I lucked out not having any issues with the MT and now with the Evo.

I thought the rooting process looked intimidating (certainly wasn't a one-click root like gingerbreak) but it was actually pretty easy. I tried to stay on stock for at least a week but I flashed Harmonia like 4 days ago lol

How is that ROM?

Yeah, it looks a little daunting. I'm just waiting until I have time to devote to this before I get into it. By then I'll know if this phone is good or not. Though not a single reboot in two days...

Doing good.

Close to stock without the bloatware and customizations, like what shows up in quick settings, notification area customizations (LeeDroid tweaks).
