Phone not charging past 25% charge!

Hello all. I seem to have a charging problem with my new HTC desire - I only got it today.

Basically when i opened the box and set up the phone the battery charge level was at around 25% full. Im in the UK but i got the phone from the US over ebay, so it didnt come with a UK mains adapter however i have an ipod mains-USB charger (that the USB cable plugs into) which i thought would charge it up by using the USB cable that came with the phone and plugging it into the ipod charger.

So i plugged it in and the LED light lit up orange on the phone and the animation came on showing that it was charging so i turned the phone off, but when i checked and turned it back on after a few hours of the phone being plugged in it was still at 25% battery when i unplugged it.

I assumed it didnt work because i used the ipod charger so I tried charging with just the USB cable plugged into my computer with the phone turned off, a few hours later its still at 25% charge... It hasnt gained any battery charge past 25% (it did loose battery when i had it unplugged but only charged back up to 25%)

Does anybody have any ideas on what the problem is, is it because of the charger im using with it being US? I just bought a UK HTC official charger from the internet so I hope that will work...

ok Ive had the phone on charge for about 4/5hours through USB connected to my computer and its now fully charged... Does it take this long to charge up via the mains? I hope not as its really frustrating! And do you think it was just because I used the ipod charger earlier on that it didnt charge at the mains? Thanks.

My Desire usually charges on USB in about 3 hours from 25%, and about 2.5 hours using AC. As for the iPod charger not working, I don't know, it's possible since Apple likes to control how their products work and prevent them from being compatible with generic devices. The USB port will do the job, even if it takes 10-15% longer to charge, until you pick up an adaptor to use the AC charger. Oh, and you can leave the phone on if you want when it's charging as it doesn't seem to affect the charging rate much.

Charging from your comp takes longer obviously, buy a mains charger.

Original HTC mains charger is the way to go, cheaper unbranded stuff won't charge as fast. My mains charger takes about 2 hours from 30% to full. Charging using USB on my PC and on a generic mains charger from Tesco takes 3-4 hours to do the same thing.

C'mon people, she already has the official HTC AC charger unit that works on both 110/220v outlets. She just needs the UK adapter to plug the charger into the 220v outlet.

Yes, and I was adding my support for her decision to get a proper charger. Now I'm eagerly awaiting news about how it worked out

Hello all, my new charger came just now so ive just plugged it in ill let u know if it works, and yeh i got an official HTC charger just to make sure it worked
