Phone not recognized by computer

Hi, when I connect my droid eris to my computer via usb/phone cable, the computer does not recognize the droid eris. My computer uses Windows 8. Anyone know how to fix this issue?

Have you tried deleting the drivers for your device from your computer? Whenever my phone stops being recognized by my computer, that's what I have to do, and after I've done so, they will reinstall themselves once I connect it again.

Thanks, how do I do this? I'm not sure if the computer even has drivers for the phone (I've never seen it attempting to install them)

Control panel>add/remove>drivers for htc phones. If I'm not mistaken that's what the drivers are listed as.
