Pick a ROM!
What sort of thing are you looking for? Something Sense based or something totally different?

Personally, I'd go for CM7. It's vanilla Android, clean, slick and totally open to customisation. I'll try other ROMs, but always go back to this one.
If you're looking at a sense ROM, then RcMix is worth a look, as is ARHD. If you want to know what an Android iPhone would look like, go for MIUI.

Yep, changing ROMs is easy if you don't like the one you're using. The CM7 guide is here: http://androidforums.com/desire-hd-...-anybody-rooted-using-tool-2.html#post3304206
If you've a bare handset, you can ignore the titanium stuff as there's nothing to backup.
Have a read through that and let me know if you have any questions.
Start at step 3, then skip 15-17. Does that make sense? Sorry if it makes things a little disjointed.
You can just mount the phone as an external drive to your PC and drag and drop the zip files over using Windows Explorer.
They should be on the zip card as I'm pretty sure you can't see the phones internal memory via windows. Just to check, is there a folder called DCIM there too?
What's the deal with the gmail account, what is it saying when you try to log in?

You've flashed it already?
Did you have 2 step verification on your gmail account per chance?

Yes i did. Turned it off and sorted it haha back to the books haha I warned i was a novice
Currently backing up my current ROM!
Excellent
Are you still in clockwork? what is the name of the file you flashed?
Luckily, you can mount the phone as a usb drive from clockwork. Just connect the phone to your PC, head to the mounts and storage menu from the main menu in clockwork, then mount usb storage. The drive should appear in windows, from there just copy the CM7 zip file, the google apps package and the lordmod kernel (there's no need to unzip them) and flash in this order:
CM7.zip -> Google Apps Package -> Lordmod kernel.
Sound cool?

UH OH! The power button suddenly stopped working as select and was working as show/hide screen and was alternating between the 2, but now it has gone off (not entirely) and won't come back on....
Just ignore the TB zip bit. My bad, apologies, it's 3AM here, I'm rather tired and I forgot to tell you to miss that step as it's not needed right now.
And it said the flash was successful?
As it stands, you've no option left but to pull the battery and try to reboot.
Did you get the google apps package done too?
