Phone shutting off by itself suddenly?

So i recently went back to stock unrooted using the FG32 1 click method and everything went seemingly fine. About a day later though something weird happened, when I wouldn't be using my phone constantly it would seem to turn off by itself and i would have to hold down to power button for a long time for it to just turn back on. As long as im using it though it is fine, but if I leave it alone for any longer than 5-10 minutes it will do this. Any possible reason for this? or way I could troubleshoot it?
 
Sounds weird.. ive seen a thread about that from non rooted users b4 but didnt experiance the problem b4 I was rooted. Ill see if I can find that thread.

I would suggest updating to the newest boost update if you plan on staying stock. And seeing if that solves the issue. And if itd really annoying and updating doesnt fix it then root and the issue will surely go away.

There is no real way to trouble shoot on stock because even if you knew the cause you coupdnt actually do anything about it because you need to be rooted to modify anything that would cause that.:cool:
 
I had the same Problem dude, I can't go back to stock unless I want to send in for a warranty replacement. I don't want to be phoneless for about two weeks, so I just Flashed CM 10 and it seems pretty stable and my issue has been resolved,,,,, so.... There ya go.
 
Hmm i'll try rooting to see if this helps get rid of the problem since im already on the latest update from boost. What makes it even weirder is that it drains the battery like crazy when this happens since I can go from 90% to suddenly being down to 40%.
 
Ohh.. you didnt say that in the first post. That could be a bad battery. id try rooting it and see what that does 4 u. But u may just need a battery
 
Yeah rooting didn't solve the problem, guess I'll try out a new battery and see if that helps, it was just strange that it would happen so suddenly. Thanks for all the replies :D
 
Mine would shut off occasionally when i was running the blu kuban once or twice a day not reboot just cut off. i am still running touched rom and loving it no more turn offs
 
Batteries definitely can cause the sudden shutdown if they are bad, especially ones that get to warm. they pack plates in the cells so tight, trying to get the most into a small package. A tiny defect can cause a partial short and dump power and drain the battery.
 
Well, it turns out it was the kernel after all (which makes no sense since it was stock) I went ahead and flashed the agat kernel in the how to root thread that comes with recovery and then left the phone alone for about an hour and no sudden shut downs so far. I guess my phone wasnt too keen on me going back to stock? :confused: thanks all :D

It actually makes sense to me. My phone did the same thing when it was stock....it would just turn off on it own and I would have to either pull the battery or hold the power down for a bit. After switching to agat kernel and baked bean rom i havent had the problem since. So my guess is going back to stock just brought back an old issue. Glad to hear the problem is gone now.
 
I can confirm this works for me as well. I have use from the bost stock, all thru almost every sprint leak that came out and every one stock I had the same issue, I would have it like black screen, then when I hit the power button nothing happened. To get out of this I had to pull the battery or hold the power down until it rebooted.
Running Twiz Dream right now and have had no issues in the last 2 days of running it.

You would think the stock of all things would act better.
Pretty sad when someone outside of a company has a fix, yet someone working for the company can't seem to fix it in numerous releases of stock rom.
 
The only blank screen issue I have had with the phone when I was on stock was actually caused by the voice search function when I was using the play store. Right after I finished speaking it would process and go black and I would have to reboot. Once the play store updated, the problem went away.

Yeah. This for me, is as listed in the main post.

The only time I really noticed it was when my phone would set for hours at a time, and I then had to use it, and when I did go to use it I came to a black screen right off, so I'd have to restart it before I did anything else.

Sometimes it would happen daily, other times I'd go 2-3 days before it happened, but it was still frequent enough it got annoying.
Everything works fine, the apps, the system, etc..., just get the black-screen issue.
I was actually glad to see someone else having the "exact" same issue I haev been having since I bought the phone, that and the fact it seems to be related to something with the stock roms somehow is at least a step forward and a relief to know I'm not the only one and I'm not going crazy....well OK, I'm not the only one :)

I'm truly not sure what causes the issue even now. I do know however that switching to a non-stock rom does fix the issue it seems.
It's kinda one of those things that's REALLY hard to track down. Honestly I wish I COULD track it down, so I could use stock if needed and/or someone could possibly put out a fix.

For now I am stuck with using a non-stock rom, unless I wanna deal with the black-screen lockup sorta issue
 
Problem is it doesn't happen to everyone. I was able to verify my issue was with the play-store, and the play-store update cured it. I then ran on rooted stock for a long time before changing to one of the leaked ROMs and never encountered the issue again. Most every problem I have ever experienced was with an app either needing an update to fix or the update causing the problem, and to control that, I turn off automatic updates for all apps.

As the saying goes, "Newer does not necessarily mean better".
 
Hey CJ, you mentioned that once you updated the store, you didn't have any of the black screen issues and having to reboot.
How do you tell what version of the store you have, and if mine isn't up to date, how would I go about updating it?
 
The play store will update itself. In the play-store, hit menu and choose settings then scroll to the bottom and it will show the build version. This update was way back when I first got the phone. I had discovered the problem and noted how it was triggered and would just not use the voice search in the play-store, The update came in not long after I got the phone and the issue went away.

Ok, well I just had the phantom black screen again yesterday is why I ask. Everything is to date, but Google search wasn't, so I'm hoping that now since I've updated it, things will be better.
Update:
It seems that the new rom didn't fix the issue, although it does seem less now. So onward to finding another resolve.
 
I know this is a late response, but I went to a stock boost room w/root cg01 jelly bean, and am using juice defender, and have yet to have anymore issues at all.
Not sure if it was the rom, the fact I was using green power saver, or what it was, but it seems to have been fixed now. No more black screen phantom lockups/freezes.
