Help Phone will not charge or usb connect!!

Unfortunately, also having problems. When the USB is connected to a wall charger when on, the phone doesn't register it and fails to charge. When the USB is connected when the phone is off, it shows that it's charging, but it doesn't actually seem to make a difference once you turn the phone on again.

Very very frustrating! Only had the phone 36 hours, but had already sorted all my apps / customised it, and was looking forward to showing it off over the Christmas break!

so i'm having a very similar, yet very different situation happening to me.

at my house, my Galaxy Nexus will charge in both computer and wall. but when i go to my gf's house, it won't charge in either. i've tried using the same cable, same wall plug, different cables, different wall plugs, nothing seems to charge it at my gf's house. i can't even USB connect with my gf's computer.

PS. i'm able to charge it in my car through a 2-port USB charger. same and different cables.

PPS. it will charge when powered off at my gf's house. however i'm not sure the screen is doing what it's supposed to be doing. it will show the battery with the lightning symbol. go black. then show a battery fill from empty to full in quarter increments. it'll repeat the loop 2.5 times. then go black again. and repeat at the lightning symbol. if i try to turn the phone on from the lightning symbol screen, it won't work. but it does work if i try to turn on from the battery animation screen.

edit: after further testing, when it's charging at my house or in my car while powered off, it never shows the battery with the lightning screen. it always loops through the battery filling up animation. so it seems like it'll charge for a few seconds (the 2.5 screen loop), then stop charging (the lightning screen), and repeat.

ok, after having this phone since it was released, it's charging fine now.

If you are having problems like the guy above

"PPS. it will charge when powered off at my gf's house. however i'm not sure the screen is doing what it's supposed to be doing. it will show the battery with the lightning symbol. go black. then show a battery fill from empty to full in quarter increments. it'll repeat the loop 2.5 times. then go black again. and repeat at the lightning symbol. if i try to turn the phone on from the lightning symbol screen, it won't work. but it does work if i try to turn on from the battery animation screen."

don't worry cus the battery is just confused or atleast your phone is, it's trying to figure things out.

After few days, it will charge in any level of percentage no matter what.

so give your phones few days and it should charge fine from car, computer, or the wall.

I had the same exact problems. I think people get too excited with their phones and thats what happened to me.

If nothing happens after a week or so, you should really get tech help.

p.s try to drain your battery a lot before charging. I purposely put my battery into an intense use and charged it back on at about 20-30 percent.

I had the same problem as the OP. Exchange fixed the issue...though for a while I was nervous, because I couldn't unroot and lock. It finally started working, so I restored that puppy to factory and took it back it back. New one is great!

Bump, because I have this same issue now. Phone randomly shut off on me at the gym, went to plug into car charger after I got out and nothing. Got home and same thing with the stock charger. It only charges upside down and off. But it keeps cycling between charging and discharging.

Also the mic and ear speaker went out as well at the same time. So now I can only talk to people through speakerphone.

I guess I have to go back to Verizon and get a new used phone since I am now out of the 14-15 day return.

I actually have an HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus, but this problem just presented itself today. Only had the phone for a week, and all of a sudden it won't charge via USB/wall, USB/pc or Philips Fidelio dock. Dead as a doorknob at the moment.

I returned my first nexus because of this, just be sure to tell them you already did a factory reset cause they will say to try that before you replace most likely, also my "refurb" replacement was actually not a refurb it was a new device

I had an issue, but it was the OEM charging cable that was broken... it would charge if I wiggled it just right, but would then stop if it got loose. I opened it up and a weld was broken between the gold foil and the tip. I tried to solder a new connection, but it just didn't work... very tempermental little beast --- luckily I had a few extra chargers already. So I ordered a couple extra cables and they all work fine.

Had same symptoms as above. Started cycling and rebooting randomly, then wouldn't charge, except to some extent with car charger. Went to VZW store and they couldn't figure it out, so they order me a refurb. I had to send my old one in, by mail only, not to a store. Wham! Today I got an email with a picture of what appears to be the magnified view of the USB port with a message saying I had damaged the phone ("liquid damage") and that I owe $299! I babied that thing, even kept it in a zip loc when even near a pool, like I have for all other phones. Anyone else think this is a hardware defect?

My GNex just now did the same thing to me. The phone would not charge and at 14% the white lightening bolt would come on and the phone was not plugged in. I called Verizon and their sending me a new (refurb) phone. The best part is I bought the phone from my buddy for $200 and now getting a new one. Verizon has awsome customer care.

Also the rep I spoke with said that he gets these calls about the USB port not working frequently.

this is happening to me, ive had the phone 5, 6 month, and it has just started to happen in the last week. ordered a new battery to see if it helps,

i can only get it to charge when turned off, and then it takes a long time

After having problems for the last 3 days charging my Samsung i9250 (Nexus prime).
These were much the same as other users have had- not charging whilst connected ,only charging a bit while the phone was turned off (white lightning bolt on the screen)Not connecting or being recognized by laptop or pc while being connected via USB etc etc.

In this time i've:

factory reset
changed to various chargers (Samsung ,HTC etc)
changed and tried various cables.

The problem is defo not software related, but is hardware ,and has to do with the Male part of the micro USB connection

If the centre, stick part of the USB is even slightly pointing downwards it wont charge or connect to a pc to transfer etc.It needs to be dead centre,it's very touchy.

The 'Put a pin or screwdriver into the micro USB port' (On the phone ) and very gently tease the centre part up, definitely works.

Just be very very careful whilst doing it !If you're not confident about doing it yourself, then i guess just take back to the shop you purchased from or send off to Samsung,or you are going to knacker your guarantee if you get it wrong!

I used a small electrical ,flat head screwdriver to fix it ,and its working .
Hope this helps with anyone else who's tearing their hair out regarding this problem.

Laters!

had this prob for a month now, and was ready to launch my phone off a cliff and ring my insurance,
done what tmmdi said and it worked. thanks fella

Just for the record in case someone runs into a similar problem.... I also had a situation where my phone would not charge with any cable/charger. It had been in my pocket while I was doing yardwork and I guess the moisture had some kind of effect on the connections/battery. I ended up pulling the battery, wiping down all the connectors and blowing on them to try to dry off the invisible condensation. After a couple of minutes it was back to normal.

The device was NOT noticeably wet in any way. No visible moisture at all.

I have the same issue, My Nexus wont charge using any cords. Weird thing is when i plug it into a charger, any cord, it will turn back on, but doesn't indicate its charging. it was working perfectly fine all day yesterday, i was even charging it while i was at school and it was fine. then late last night when i returned home, it simply wouldn't charge. Any suggestions?

i just downloaded a battery app, as my phone doesnt have the option to show % of the battery, and according to the app, it is charging, yet my phone does not think so????
