Help "Phonebook is being accessed by audio device" message

Merlin96

Lurker
I'm hoping someone out there knows what to do to fix this. My Optimus V is flashing "Phonebook is being accessed by audio device" message for hours after being paired with the bluetooth in new Kia Sportage. I cannot figure out how to dimiss this message. It flashes right in the zone where new texts show on the screen, so this is making me nuts. I am 43 with no computer skills to speak of, so if you can offer a solution, please remember I need it in "Optimus for Dummies" format. :-) Thanks a bunch!

Someone can actually be accessing your phone through Bluetooth if your set to discoverable

I can't remember, are you rooted? If so, what ROM and kernel version. If you are, restore backup then lower CPU speed and try again.
If not, pull battery and hold power button for 10sec. Then try again.

It sounds like your Bluetooth is doing an auto download of your contacts so you can do voice dial. There just seems to be a glitch in the transferring or sharing of info.

Must not be "rooted", don't have a clue what that, ROM, or kernel version even are. :-)
I'll try the battery idea though & report back. Thanks!

Ok, I removed the battery and it does fix the problem until I get in my car again. Then it starts all over. I'll wear out the back cover popping it on an off all the time, so I'm hoping we can find another solution. An observation, I got online and clicked onto a couple websites, and the message went away. Wonder what's up with that?

I have a visor mount Bluetooth device. When I first paired it,it auto downloaded my contacts so I could just push a button and say a name to call someone on my contacts list. This is what your car is trying to do. See if you can download the instructions from the web if there not in the owners manual.
Or just ask the dealer.

I am having the same problem. The message goes away temporarily when I turn the phone on and off. It appears (or remains) when I am quite far from my car, so it can't just be as simple as linking the phonebook to my car. And my car should not be linking with the phone when my car is not powered up, anyway.

On another forum, there was a note that the problem was resolved by flashing a new ROM on to the phone. I have no idea how to do that, and sounds like a fairly extreme solution anyway. Does anyone have some other suggestions?

If you longpress on the screen and go to Widgets, then scroll down and tap the Powerbar and add it to your screen, and tap the BlueTooth to turn it off (while away from your car).... do you still have the issue?

I took me a while to test this, because I had to wait for the message to appear at a time I had a few minutes to play with it. If I turn off Bluetooth, the message goes away. As long as Bluetooth is disabled, the message does not appear (I gave it about a week to be sure).

Within an hour of turning on Bluetooth, the message appeared again.

We also have a kia that has dine this but only.when in the car. Once it downloads it goes away . Had some problems connecting a few times but works great now. Might try disconnecting from the car and testing it up as a new device.

Still having the same problem. The message continues to appear 12 hours after I was last in the car. Sometimes it will turn off if I get online, but not always. Anyone have some more ideas? BTW, what is a "powerbar"? I have ABSOLUTELY no computer/cell phone tech knowledge, please dumb down any ideas by defining tech terms. Thanks so much, I really appreciate any helpyou all can give.
UPDATE: I got an idea about why the message flashes for so long. Somehow the bluetooth is not getting the message that I have turned off the car. The bluetooth keeps running as if it's still being accessed by the car.
I downloaded a widget called "Auto Bluetooth" by Papers.ch Development. I just tested it and so far it consistently gives my phone the message the phone and car are unpaired. The message turns off now!!! Yay!
I'll keep watching this for a couple days and report back if it keeps shutting of the message.
The widget is free. They also do an ad free donate version for $5. If it continues to work, I'll definitely buy the donate app. It's totally worth $5 to fix this annoyance! :-)

It has been a while since I used stock, but I think if you longpress your home screen and select widget there is an option called power bar or something like that. It is a widget with 4 or 5 buttons, one for wifi, one for bluetooth, one for silent and I think one for GPS and/or sync.

There are non-stock alternatives to this as well which allow for customization of buttons and appearance.

Have you tried contacting the bluetooth manufacturer? Or searched if this is a problem others are having with the device as opposed to the mobile?

The Auto Bluetooth app I was trying yesterday ended up not being the reason the bluetooth unpaired from my phone the way I need it to to get rid of that flashing message. I uninstalled the app and got the same results. Unfortunately, I still cannot get it to consistently unpair (disconnect from handsfree device) consistently. The trick (when it works) has been to stay in the car an extra minute or two after turning off the ignition. About 3 times out of five it will disconnect.
I'm trying a feature on my battery manager today to see it it will help shut down the connection after I turn off the ignition. I'm hoping it will be more responsive to the message from the Kia that the ignition is off so the phone will disconnect itself consistently.
Anyone got any ideas on ways to make sure this unpairing happens, in case my new idea bombs? :-)

I guess what I'm ultimately shooting for is to not have to mess with my phone every time I get out of my car....
And no, just turning off Bluetooth on the phone does not get rid of the flashing message.

I just bought a new Kia and had the same problem. Here's what I did to fix it. I unpaired the phone from the car, then deleted the car from the phone. After that I cleared the call history in my phone. Then I started the pairing process all over again. Once I paired the phone the second time, my contacts downloaded to the car in a matter of seconds and I have not had a problem since. Hope this helps.

Yahoo!!!! I just KNEW there had to be a simple solution. I was not able to delete the car from my phone, but unpairing and disconnecting the phone and on the car, then re-pairing worked! It's been almost a week and no more flashing message. Thanks SO much Dnmrtni, you rock!

You're welcome. Glad I could help. I know how frustrating that can be. I fought with mine for about a week before I figured it out.
