Pillbox7(?) tablet stuck at "android" screen, wont boot.

Had this tab for about a year for my son, suddenly won't boot, stops with the word "android" on the screen. As far as I can tell it's a Pillbox7 A13 based tab, but there's no make or model on it. Have tried factory reset by holding either vol + or vol - while powering on but nothing seems to happen, it doesn't even come on to the android logos. I then have to press and hold the power button for 10 seconds before I can then switch it on again. I popped it open yesterday and disconnected the battery for a while but that made no difference. This morning I installed LiveSuit on my lappy and plugged in a usb cable but I got the exact same results as above when I held the vol +/- buttons as I plugged in the cable.

Is there anything else I can try, perhaps with a microSD card? Or can anyone suggest anything else to try, or is it dead?

What's probably happened the software ROM has become corrupted due to poor manufacturing quality, and it has to be re-loaded, or maybe another fault. TBH I don't think there's much you can really do with this. The software ROM is basically unavailable for this one. So you'll probably have to replace it.
