Ok so I want to load this game. I bought the app and tried to load it. Its too big. The game is over 74mb. Right now its sitting on my sd. Is there away to load it from the memory card to the memory card ? Make sense to anybody ? It is possible to do ?

assuming you have teh space on /system you could move apps there instead of /data (where market installs em)

Hmm does that mean that if i put the app in /system will phone install the game onto my sd card from the sd card?
What he means is if your apps are running from the /system/app folder they are not taking up space that the game needs on your internal memory.

/system is reserved for system apps and unless your running full bloat it has at least 50mbs free you could use, maybe even more.
I have my phone set up so I have many of my larger space hog apps running in system/app I am using 128mbs and have 32.5 free my data I am using 77.38 and have 83.8 free. I could move more but this works.

Hmm I think its time to install shabbymod .7 slim down the bloat and check out app2sd !! Thanks again guys for the tips !!

How do I set my phone up so my space hog apps run in /system/app ? Could you list noob steps on how to do this ? Which shabby mod do you have ?

Easy way is use root explorer, any file explore that can get root privileges will work but root explore is what I have.
I am using .6 myself, with some custom tweaks.

First, obviously, open root explorer go to /data/app Look for the app you want to move, for example I will use gas buddy, look for gbis.gbandroid.apk make sure root explorer has r/w in data it has by default. press and hold till the popup menu comes up select move then browse to /system/app toggle the r/w as by default it will be r/o and hit paste. Reboot phone and done.

Or if you want to move several then while in /data/app hit menu and multiselect then choose all that you want to move and browse to /system/app toggle r/w and hit paste. reboot and go.
Be aware several will not work from /system/apps, wireless tether and terminal emulator are 2 such.

Do you mind sharing which apps you have moved in /system/app ? ? ?

No problem.
Adfree
anreboot
accuweather
moonreader
swype, the beta version
swype installer, found if I remove the installer the beta version license gets lost
gasbuddy
gps speed graph
maps update
market updater
vending update All of these 3 ^ start in the system app but the update from market goes into data taking up space
Sd Speed Boost, put in before I installed the shabbymod
xScope browser, also put in before I installed the mod
Thats about all that I decided to move to the /system/app folder

Hmmm I have move most of my apps to my sd card so when I go to /data/app there is really not alot there. if i go to /mnt/sdcard i can see everything i moved and than some. Are you saying that if i move apps to the /system/apps folder that it will take use memory internal memory in a different way ?

when you use something like app2sd it links the app to the sd card but it can not run it from there completely, I am unsure where it would have the symbolic link I assume it would be in the /data somewhere.

The way these phones allot memory is cache.. system... data, which is user available any app you download will normally go to /data.
If you place the app from /data/app into /system/app the app still runs as it should but now it is using memory allotted to the phones system internal memory which is normally not accessible by users.
To give you an example when I go to menu-settings- sd card and phone storage I see my internal phone storage and it says available space 92.7MB
ya I moved everything from /data/app and cleared the /data/dalvik-cache.
I am unsure but I believe that the phone uses some of the user available space for ram memory, and messages and such so if you are very low your phone gets unresponsive and your messages are not downloaded.

Should I clear my /data/dalvik-cache. There are some really big files in there. how do i do that if I should clear it ?

maps update
market updater
vending update All of these 3 ^ start in the system app but the update from market goes into data taking up space

how do i keep those files in /system/app ?

use a file explorer, like root explorer and browse to /data/app hit menu button hit multi select and select all hit move
hit the back button to get back to / then find /system/app hit paste
then power off the phone, then turn it back on
then to clear the davlik-cache browse to /data/davlik-cache hit menu hit select all hit delete and then hit power button power off, then restart.

It will take several seconds longer to boot back up that is normal it is rebuilding the needed cache

I must say new optimus you are frickin awsome. Your answers are always helpful. Your always to the point. So far every bit of advice you have offered me has worked better than I expected. Anybody else out there reading this, when new optimus speaks. Listen. Thanks again for all the help !!

I had a question...how is the plants vs zombies on a droid take more space than my pc version o.o? my pc PvZ is only barely over 60mb...

First off, I'm not the developer of Link2SD. Just found it recently and love it so far.

It requires you to make a new partition on your card (I made a 1 gig ext2 partition on my 16 gig card) and once you do that you can have it move apps to the card. You can also have it move the dalvik-cache and sometimes libs that the apps use to the sd card. You can't move everything (like protected system apps), but it can move a lot. Can even have it auto move things as they're installed if you want. It can also look for unneeded dalvik-cache files and delete them if you want. Not sure how safe this is.

If you have app2sd in stalled you'll need to move any apps you want link2sd to work with back to the phone first, then use link2sd. Also, I found that the free space wasn't updating until I rebooted the phone so you need to do that from time to time.

My recommendation is to uninstall what you can and use link2sd until you have room for plants vs. zombies. Can be a bit tricky to make enough room, but it can be done. I have it installed along with Peggle and about 50 more apps that didn't come with shabbymod rom. Right now I have 56.75 mb internal storage free and am using 479 mb on my sd card for apps

So I barely managed to make enough room to install PvZ, and I transferred it to my SD. There's a problem though. Every time I try to run the game, I get that little hourglass icon showing the game is loading, then it just crashed back to the home screen. Anyone know how I can get it to work?

You might need to delete something else to get that a little bit more room. I also have a rooted phone vm heap tool on it and that allows me to adjust my cache size I wonder if that's something you also need to do to.

who were you talking to?

i got the game installed, but it crashed during the initial loading screen which is the hourglass thing.
