Root Playing "Marco Polo" with Android Market

So .....

I'm now running CyanogenMod-6.0.2-Desire.

I've just realised, ... I HAVE NO MARKET?!

First thing, I stripped the ROM .zip's that I have downloaded previously, but haven't managed to find a "market.apk" or "androidmarket.apk" at all ... I can find the Market Updater, but not what I think would be the market itself.

So I guess I need to know 2 things:

1 - is there an .apk download (or similar?) for the Desire?

2 - If I can't access the market to download File Manager ... how do I install it?

Please help guys, I'm trying my hardest to lose my n00b status!!

I think it has to do with Google not allowing CM6 to ship with Google apps, didn't know the Market was part of that. Actually i think it SHOULD ship with appbrain instead. :)

I use defrost based on cyanogen and have the market.
based on is not CM its based on.
CM is not allowed as they had a C & D from googles lawyers last year
all gapps have to be applied externally to the rom.
Im pretty certain this will happen with other bare roms that are floating about soon as google does not take kindly too it

defrost may well get a spanking sometime soon

well not quite, os is open source. the apps are not, they are no different to other apps that people charge for from the market. its proprietary
