Root Please help....can't select "start" in RSD Lite?? Phone will not load

jbhumph

I am trying to load the gingerbread .595 stock from an Apex rom. I was set in PC Mode with my USB connection before I tried loading. I have the sbf file and have followed the instructions here: SBF’ing the Droid X U D G

Only problem is that when I go to click "start" in SBF, the "start" button is gray still. It recognizes my device fine and seems ok I just can't click start. What do I need to do??? :( Sorry, I'm doing a "search" like crazy right now to try and find the answer but figured I'd post a topic in the meantime in case I can't find it. What I thought would be a simple task is becoming a huge problem *sigh*

EDIT:
Wait, wait...maybe I got it. Found this topic and renamed my file...

*fingers crossed*

No....it says it failed flashing process in RSD Lite????

I have tried all sbf's from this site: http://androidchat.org/files/index.php?dir=DroidX/SBFs/2.2/ and am downloading the zip now. I still don't get what is wrong. Even trying to rename them, it says "Failed" each time. And yes I did try a factory reset/cache wipe

And I am on RSD Lite v.8

Ok I have searched and searched. I'm offically stumped and feel like I've wasted 2 hours of my life :(

My phone is stuck in a boot loop. Just keeps showing the white motorola logo. I can get it to bootloader but the sbf fails even if it's in the "C" drive or on the desktop. Drivers and all are correct. Doesn't matter if I rename the file "dx.sbf" or not either. Always fails when I hit "start" in rsd lite.

If anyone can tell me what I need to do, I will give you my first born as I use my phone for literally everything. This is why I swore last time I needed to stop trying to mess with my phone....darn it I shoulda listened to myself

Did you turn off your phone then hold down camera button, volume down, then the power button all in that order to get to the bootloader menu? Sounds like to me that you're trying to flash with the phone on.

Yes, I have been holding down the power button, volume down, and camera button until the phone flashes. When I let up, it takes me to bootloader. It saetci'm connected, device is shown in RSD lite, etc....but every time I hit "start", it says "failed" in RSD Lite

I had the same issue, but just did it today. I was using Windows 7 x64, ultimate, not sure what you are using, but win 7 x64 and RDslite don't seem to get along too well. I'll tell you what I did, maybe it will work for you.

Install latest Moto drivers (you can get them and rds lite from here )
Install rdslite 4.9

Next, get VRZ_MB810_2.3.34_1FF_01.sbf I got it from the same link above, but it sounds like you already have it. I copied it to my c:\program files(x86)\motorola\rdslite dir, just to make it simpler for me, the path probably doesn't matter

Now, get your phone into the bootloader screen(hold volume down, and camera button, then press power) Make sure your bootloader says 3.04. If it says 3.03 you'll need to look up more about how to get to 3.04, you should just need to install a zip. Once you are at the bootloader screen, plug in the USB, and open a command prompt. Type in

Code:
cd c:\program files(x86)\motorola\rdslite
SDL.exe -f [URL="http://bit.ly/hfp9iY"]VRZ_MB810_2.3.34_1FF_01.sbf[/URL] -t 2

If you're not running a 64bit OS, get rid of the (x86) .Give it a few seconds, and rds lite should start up, and start flashing. Mine got to 97%, then said failed, but my phone was rebooting when it failed, so I'm guessing it lost a connection due to the reboot, but didn't really fail. The phone was flashed though.

Ok I'm wondering if maybe the links I tried were not the full sbf files and maybe just the system only because the download link you provided is taking much longer than the others. RDS lite 4.9 is now on my computer and the drivers are almost finished updating as well. Hopefully this will work! And bootloader is 30.04

Waited all that time to download and it's still not working. Everything seems to be just right except when I hit start, it still fails. I've now spent four hours trying to fix this. PLEASE....can anyone offer any other suggestions or tell me what the heck I'm doing wrong???

I did this ONCE before a long time ago from this thread: http://androidforums.com/droid-x-al...ing-custom-rom-theme-how-unbrick-droid-x.html

I went back and of course the directions for doing the sbf are very similar. I have tried every sbf file I can get my hands on but nothing will go through. They all say "fail" right away.

I am running as admin. The phone is connected. It is the current version of sbf and rsd lite. Drivers are up to date. Bootloader is correct. Factory wipe has been tried. I tried different USB ports. It says failed 0x7

Sorry for all of the posts. I'm really mad at myself right now for messing with this and screwing up my phone. This is exactly why I usually am so hesitant with this stuff. I just do not understand why it won't work. Anyway, I have to work in 3 hours so I need to try and get some sort of rest for tonight. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm obviously open to them :( :( :( :( :(

Darn...was hoping for at least one more opportunity to try something different. Guess I'll try later tonight. Today could be interesting....

I have followed the video to a T....the ONLY difference I have is that the "file properties" are not displayed in the box. Could it be the file I downloaded? Again I linked to the ones that I have tried and none are displaying the properties.

Phone says it's ok to program, etc. just like he said to watch for. It connects fine, the file just won't load. As soon as I click it, it says "failed" so it doesn't even begin processing really...just goes straight to the "fail" line. Is there a direct SBF link that someone would recommend that I haven't tried?

Put your sbf file on your desktop. Rename it x.sbf.
Try the flash again. It wont work, but it is a start.
Rename it x2.sbf. That probably won't work, either.

Took me to x23456.sbf to get the file to start flashing.

Unfortunately, that didn't work either.

My computer is Windows 7. I know I've heard RSD and Windows 7 don't get along well sometimes....maybe I'll try it on another computer later on Windows XP.

Or does ANYONE have any other advice?? :(

my only suggestions are to

1. Make sure you're using the right drivers (32 or 64 bit)
2. Try an XP system

I double checked my system now. I am running Windows 7 64 bit. I uninstalled the motorola driver and re-installed the link to the 64 bit so I am certain that it is the correct one. Still won't even attempt to do it. Right away it reads "Flashing failed"

I am going to try XP now...I just can't imagine why it won't and I have no phone or way to communicate with a lot of people right now....grrr...:(

RSD lite 4.9 in installed on Windows XP. Also have the 32 bit drivers as that is what XP is using on this computer.

Also went ahead and am downloading the full SBF file which it estimates will take about 2 hrs 50 mins, and the system only SBF Shadow file which is estimated at 1 hr 30 mins.

Guess I will try in a few hours...

woah...what kind of speeds are you getting? no way it should take that long...the Full SBF is only ~250MB...

i can tell you unfortunately with almost complete certainty that even if the system only Shadow File flashes...you will bootloop at best...you need the full SBF to get back from GB...

I'm at my parents house on their computer. It says 100 mbps

I downloaded from the link provided above. It is 255 mb

I got smart and placed my sbf file from my laptop onto a cd and put it on the XP computer. It was in the process of working, looked perfect, made it to 100% then said "failed"....WTF...

HOLY BUCKETS....IT WORKS!!!

Ok I don't know WHAT I did but I ran the file again and it went through just fine. I am so happy!!!!!! But soooo afraid to try the gingerbread leak now. Thanks to all for your help!

I have Titanium Backup Pro. If I use my backup from when I was on a ROM, will it fix my layout back or send me back to a ROM and probably brick again?

Titanium backup will only restore your apps and some of your settings. Using it for system data between ROMs is iffy sometimes though.

If I were you I'd just do a batch restore of apps+data.

I put in a special request via PM for his expertise. Does that make me special???? :D

Again Steven I really do appreciate you coming over to take a peek and thanks to everyone else again who helped. I almost have everything the way I want it now lol

The system sbf is in the 200mb range. The full sbf is 440. If it fails immediately its a corrupted sbf. It should spend some time unpacking it before it flashes. The name and location of the the sbf on the pc matters not unless the path is too long.
