Please help me I am clueless

Hello everybody, I recently swapped an iPhone for a Galaxy SII, which was already rooted. There are a number of issues that I don't understand, I've had the phone for a few weeks now and every time I read an FAQ or search for solutions to my problems I just end up getting more confused. I am not new to flashing, I've had plenty of experiences flashing PSP's and xbox's over the years but I just can't get my head around this. I want to completely restore the phone back to stock so that I can find a flashing tutorial and start from the start, so that I may understand the process.

First off, I am using a GT-l9100, Android version 2.3.7, Kernel version 2.6.35.14 and MIUI 2.2.24. I suppose it will be easier if I just list the problems I'm having:

1) I cannot get my phone to show up in Kies, no matter what I do. I have installed and reinstalled the program, checked the usb debugging on my phone, I can't get it to work. I'm using the latest version. Obviously this is a problem because it is preventing me from backing up my phone in order to flash new firmware.

2)I cannot find the voice commands anywhere. In the galaxy manual it simply says to open the application list and select voice command, but there is none listed on my phone. I see youtube vids of people saying "hey galaxy!" and waking their phone up. How can I do this?

3)My screen keeps turning on for no apparent reason. It doesn't do this all the time, but when it does, it will do it for a while and drain the battery. I even tried turining GPS/wifi/data off and running the app killer to kill any running processes but to no avail. Needless to say, this is a problem because it's draining my battery.

4)When I am browsing the Play Store, my phone will freeze and reboot at any random time. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't, but it only does it in the Play Store.

5)This one is particularly annoying. I am very hard of hearing so I have my ringtone quite loud. Sometimes when I'm talking on the phone, I will revieve an SMS, which causes the ringtone to play very loudly in my ear. It is seriously annoying.

Apologies if any of these questions are noobish, but I'm just so fed up with not being able to use the phone to it's full potential, so I thought I'd dump my problems on here. There must be one or two friendly people who are willing to help a clueless fool like me =)

As the handset is rooted and running a third-party ROM I've moved this to the All Things Root sub-forum. I've no personal experience with MIUI but that may be the cause of Kies not recognising the handset - I think it only works with Samsung-based firmwares.

The other issues will hopefully be addressed by others more knowledgeable than I. :)

as has been mentioned you wont be able to do anything with kies as youre not using a samsung firmware.

If i were you id remove the miui rom and flash a stock samsung firmware. Should fix those issues you are having plus give you an idea of what the phone should be like. Once youve played with it like that you will get a better idea of what different roms will give you over the way samsung intend

Youve already got kies so all you need to do is download odin from post 1 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487

then in post 2 youll find a link for the latest UK sim free software I9100XWLP7

Then youll have a complete fresh samsung ICS phone to play with.

Thank you both for the replies, that explains the Kies problem anyway. I'll reflash stock firmware and take it from there.

Hi guys, just letting you know that I successfully flashed ICS with the info you gave me and got Kies to recognise my phone.

Thanks again for the help :D
