I need help with my galaxy S2, my default video player doesnt work so I had to download MX Video player, but the mx video player only lets me use the s/w decoder and wont let me use the h/w decoder so im guessing the phones default decoder is h/w and it doesnt work, its weird because even though I cant watch videos I can hear them. And I cant watch youtube, netflix or videos im recording. Its frustrating! Please help!

welcome to AF!!!!!!!!!

which s2 do you have so that i can move the thread there, if you like? that way you will get more exposure with folks who have your phone and they might be able to help you better.

what happens when you use the stock video player?

Well when I use my video player I can hear the video but I cant watch it, same with netflix and youtube, btw phone model is SAMSUNG-SGH-I777

Which version of the S2 do you have? There are differences based on carrier and location. The model number would be most helpful (you can find it under menu>settings>about phone, or it will be on a sticker under the battery.) Also which version of Android is on your device? This information will help us get the right eyes on your problem.

Well the phone model is SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 and android version is 4.0.4. It is an at&t phone, but i am currently using a Net10 sim

So i take it the phone was unlocked. Did at&t provide the code? For youtube and netflix it might be as simple as incorrect apn settings.

Go to menu>settings>about phone and let us know what it says under baseband, kernel and version number. We can probably figure it out from there.

Baseband- I777UCLL6
Kernel- 3.0.35-siyah-v3.4.2-nomswap+ktoonsez@ktoonsez-virtualbox) ) #2 smp preempt mon jun 18 21:08:40 mst 2012
Build number- IMM76D.CLL6

Looks like you simply rooted it by flashing the siyah kernel. Those baseband and version numbers look like AT&T Stock. Did you remove any system apps once you gained root?

Many times one app will provide services to others so if you delete the stock media player, you could easily break video playback for other apps.

That might be it, but media player cant be broken because I can still hear videos, and it still plays them, even if it is for a second.

I dont know what a decoder is, but when I use MX video player I have the same problem using H/W decoder, and when I switch to S/W decoder it works just fine. So i figure it might have something to do with the phones stock video decoder.

If you're up for some testing and don't mind reconfiguring your phone, I'd recommend trying the SuperNexus JB rom. It is what I have on my SGH-i777 and have no problems with video playback. It would let you know if it was the OS. If you do try that and it doesn't work, find a buddy with an AT&T sim card and pop it in and try it that way. If it still doesn't work, you're probably correct that it's a hardware problem.
