Help Please Help, ROM Manager/Clockwork Mod Bricked my Phone?!

Hello, everyone, this is my first post on these forums. It seems that i might have bricked my Samsung Galaxy Prevail. First, i downloaded the latest version of ShabbyMod to my phone and unzipped it. Then I downloaded ROM Manager/Clockwork. after starting this app i first tried the option to fix file system errors, as i found that i've been recieving alot of force-close messages as of late. then i hit the backup option, it prompted me to install Clockwork Recovery. so i hit that option, and noticed that the galaxy prevail wasnt on the phones list. so i just chose any random entry and it downloaded a profile or something (or whatever its called).

then i hit the Backup option again, confimed, and then my phone screen immediately went black. i waited about half an hour, assuming that it was backing up the stock ROM and would power on soon. 3 hours later, still nothing. i have tried removing and reinserting the battery, as well as holding Volume Up plus Power button (recovery mode), still nothing it wont power on. Also, when i try to plug into a wall outlet it still wont power on. I checked my MicroSD by inserting it into my laptop, all my files and app info, etc are still there. I would also like to note that i was rooted using ADB method before installing ROM Manager, for over 3 months. I am certain of this because ROM Manager requested root permissions before starting.

So basically, what i need to know is, am i bricked? regardless of whether i am or not, is there a way to fix this? can i format my phone's ROM/harddrive from my laptop and reinstall that way, either with the stock ROM or ShabbyMod?

Also, can my phone run CyanogenMod?

Well, if anyone can help, plz reply soon. Thanks in advance!

no luck there, inigomontoyasr, i have tried holding camera+VolUp+power, as well as camera+VolDown+power, still nothing. I am also reading anothing post here about using Odin to recover, but it says i need to get into download mode...............looks like i'm screw, possibly. i was running the stock ROM, wanted to flash to ShabbyMod. one thing's for sure, whether i fix this or not, I'll never use CWM/RM anymore.

You should NOT be using rom manager with this phone... install clockwork mod following this thread:

http://androidforums.com/galaxy-prevail-all-things-root/390234-clockworkmod-updated-9-12-11-a.html

and you prob. are bricked... you need to odin back to stock using:

http://androidforums.com/galaxy-prevail-all-things-root/375550-odin.html

Also i think you might be confused on how shabby mod installs... It does not install directly from the phone.. you need a computer to "shabby up".. there is no cyanogen mod for this phone... although im sure the brains are working on it... not enough popularity for this phone for official support it seems..

To Trenchkato: i have downloaded all necessary files that you linked to in both posts. i also have the samsung usb drivers already installed. BUT i would like to reiterate, as i have done once already in the previous posts, that i cant enter into either recovery mode or download mode. i read both the pages you linked and they both seem to require download mode. so, now that it's clear that i cant do absolutely anything on the phone, what other options do i have?

Did you try turning odin on, and plugging your phone in to the usb port and then trying download mode? I read a couple posts saying they managed to get theirs to pop into download mode after messing with it and unplugging/plugging it with odin on a lot. Just my two cents.

Other then that, I don't think there IS anything else you can do aside from reading up on things before you use them next time.

Try taking the battery out and then push the power button and hold it for a minute to drain the caps.
then battery back in and hold camera button and vol. down button and then also the power button till you see the word download.
Make sure that you read all posts on odin before you attempt anything as odin can be tricky!

This also happened to me today... I wish i could have read this before i attempted to back it up using ROM Manager. But has anyone figured anything out since?

this happened to me today as well and I assure you that I have read and read and read before I did this. all I did was down load from app store and follow instructions. sometimes ppl are quick to judge and give 20 20 hind site vision advice.
I agree I wont use rom manager either.
Well you live and learn and I just did but it wasnt from an I told you so lol.;)

So I'm assuming there is still no solution to this brick ? I've tried putting it into download while running odin and constantly unplugging/plugging it back into the usb. But still no luck.

I have read of 2 solutions.
First if your in the warranty period send it to samsung they will fix it.

or second there is a company that will fix it for $30 I will have to search for them again.

found it, finally.

I hard-bricked my Prevail by using Rom Manager. And yes, it was definitely user error. I never said the program was to blame. Just a tip.... Mobiletechvideos.com offers a JTAG service that can restore a hard-bricked phone. It's $30 and I got my phone back in a week. It's been fine ever since.
